It still holds up today even though I'd recommend considering an upgrade to more intense gamers out there. For most people, it'll be a solid chip for years to come.
That's a massive bottleneck lol glad you upgraded though the lack of hyperthreading is what really hurts this CPU from being even usable on the lowest settings in many newer titles with really bad 1% and .1% lows
still rocking my i3-8100 paired with rx 580 and i do some gaming on it like terraria, subnautica, minecraft, and some other need for speed titles. still gives decent performance would love to go ryzen on my next upgrade.
This is something I was looking into a month ago after my friend wanted to play Baldurs gate and Starfield. Second hand pricing You can pick up 7th Gen i5 for around £20 however the motherboards start at £40 for second hand basic model and £100 for anything decent. At this prices you might as well go brand new AMD motherboard. A second hand AMD Ryzen first gen quadcore was £30+ second gen was only slightly more expensive but approaching the discounted Ryzen 4xxx processor again brand new. When it comes to Ryzen 5 2600/3600 second hand then Ryzen 5 4500 is cheaper new All in all secondhand Intel and Ryzen are more expensive than brand-new Ryzen 4xxx equivalent and slower, in the case of 7th gen Intel (8th gen wasn't that big a jump) about half the speed
I watched RandomGamingInHD's video right before I watched yours, I decided to watch yours too since your content is pretty good too and you give a bit more info on the hardware you're showing off in your vids
Haha I saw his vid after uploading my. Complete coincidence that we featured the i5 8400. His video was more about the combo of the 1070 and 8400 which was very entertaining and interesting as always. His testing library is also a lot bigger than mine so he had a chance to show the chip off in a few more games. I gotta save up for some more new titles.
@@UltraBudgetPC That is very true, you both cover both cover different angles on tech but both are equally good in their own ways, I might have to send you a couple steam codes to help you get started on that lol
I would avoid it since it doesn't have hyperthreading, plus its just weird a 6core 6thread chip, instead go with the more mainstream variant that has 12 threads, either from intel or amd.
I used 8400 all the way until this may. Was paired with RX 570 and later with 2070. Best cpu Ive had.

Still rocking the 8600k! Overclocked to 4.2

Another excellent video bro. Keep up the great work!
Appreciate it!
Ultra, you are putting out some good budget hardware info. Great to listen to while I am at work.

You should compare the i5 8400 to like an i7 6700K or i7 7700K to see if 8 threads makes a difference.
Yeah the 7700k would be a great comparison as they seem to have pretty similar performance on paper from what I've seen.

Imma buy this one if I have the budget to replace my brother's intel pentium cpu, he's gonna be happy!
Make a video on i5 7400
i still use a 4790K it still works and can run most game still
picked one up with mobo and 8gb ram for 100
this cpu works with ddr3 ram and that is for ultra pro max budget pc😁
It meets Win11 minimum specs.
Awesome CPU. Definitely worth it for a cheap Budget PC.
