Smart thinking with that gate set up John and Pat. Although so dry at the moment, i was admiring the land in the background, what a way to live, no traffic, lots of fresh air....the list goes on.
When I bought my farm at Stroud in 1985 , there was 2 . 3 mt gates on the driveway entrance. Someone stole them So I made a cockies gate. 12 years later when we sold it my wife still couldn't close or open it. Pat will love your new gate
Cockies gates can be a nightmare. The first one I encountered in NW Queensland was made with a gidgee pole and weighed a ton, halfway through the operation the thing fell over tangling me up in the wire. I thought their has to be a better way to do it. John
Hi John, you have made some great videos! Thank You for jogging my memory: I am fencing off a few separate areas for sheep, so far using gates that I already had, but only have one gate left. You have reminded me that as a kid growing up near Meekatharra I often had to open & close similar wire gates. Now I realise that I already have everything I need on hand to close off additional areas, I don't need swung gates! All the best, King from Cookernup, Western Australia
As a city person who enjoys watching Farming Life Australia, I just want to say how impressed with the ways of farming people. The way you make things John and with the help of Pat is a constant source of amazement. I hope you get some decent rainfall to freshen up the paddocks soon; the ground looks so brown and bare.
G’day mate. That complete gate set-up you made is brilliant. I was a fencing contractor for years and by jeez I wish I knew your system back then. All the best to you and your wife. 👍🇦🇺
Great to have a blue-tonguer handy Old Fellah! Jumpin' up and down off machinery just about kills me these days. 😱🙄 Also working with that damned springy wire is/was the only time I liked to wear longs. Plus a pair of leather gloves. Only need a touch to get the claret flowing nowadays. The genie and power drills are probably easier than the old Atom attachment on the chainsaw spinning your wrists when the knots and holes grabbed the bit in the old gnarly timber too.😉
That is a nice slick gate, the little lenghts of chain and the loop at the base are brilliant and the latch could be worked by a kid. I hate gates, and particularly wire ones but I could put up with that one 🤣 I would like the type gate you can drive through, seems like such a waste of time getting in and out all the time.
A good simple self opening gate is something I have put many hours thought into and have not got far. I know there are all sorts of complex ones but I wan't a simple solution. John
Hi John, what was your wife painting on the post for white ants before you put it in the ground? I’ve got some posts to do and I’m interested to see what you use. Thanks mate.

Thanks. Yes the ground is as dry as a dead digo's donger. We are getting very worried about it. John

That is the best wire gate I have ever seen! 👏
Thanks. Over the years I have put a bit of thought into it. John
That’s a top gate John….I’ll be stealing all those great ideas when I do another one on my place. Thanks mate.
No problem. They are just a gate at best. At least this way they are useable. John
Good looking gate, and particularly like the ring at the bottom compared to the wire loop
That wire loop is a pain in the ar$e always falling down. John
I deffinately learnt something. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and commenting. John

I have never owned a Atom boring attachment often thought one would be handy. I don't think I will worry about getting one at this late stage. John
Great job John. Hope you get rain soon but not too much to quickly.
At this stage quickly or slowly we will have it. John
Very good I learned some tricks I can use. Thanks Good video as always.
Glad you can use a few ideas I have picked up. John
Bloody good job it's far superior to what I've been doing. Will be copying your method in future.

Me too but I don't want one that is more trouble than it is worth. I'll let you know if I come up with a winner@@farminglifeaustralia6716

Sump oil diesel and ant poison the sump oil is mainly for colour. Ants hate diesel. John
