    Joshua, there are a lot of great FPV related channels out there that I legitimately enjoy. They do a great job and I am not trying to take anything away from them. So many of them are simply assembly line channels where they review drone after drone after drone. Your channel is one of the few that truly tries to put real substance in each and every video. For that, you deserve a real big Thank you and appreciation for delivering content to your channel. It truly shows that you put a lot into your channel.

    Nice video man, thanks! I AM a bit confused by this because you gave the main leads AND balance leads connected from the board to the charger.
    What exactly do balance leads do in a charger? Are they also pushing current or are they drawing current?
    If the charger normally draws power through the balance leads to balance the cells, and if you have the main and balance jumped on the board, and the charger is pushing current through main leads... Wouldn't the charger just draw back everything through the balance plug?
    This has obviously worked for you, so I'm trying to understand where my thinking is wrong. Thanks!

I made an adapter a while back that plugs into the non balance lead with a XT60 on the other end and had a good experience. I was away and took a couple months off flying (total sack religious I know), but now neither is supported in my ISDT Q6pro. Cheap toy chargers I have owned only charge through the balance. Charging for me on new quad build will be the first time I have ever used main leads to charge! In fact it was news to me that you even connected the xt60 or deans at all in charging lol

    The ground and last positive of the balance lead is parallel to the discharge lead. Its the same thing. So if you push your charge though it, when it goes to balance, it shuts off charge and than discharges the pack to an equal point... This is not magic, but it's a great tip.

    • @JoshuaBardwell

    How much current can those copper tracks on the balance board take???

    • @JoshuaBardwell

      The XT60 traces are rated for 30 amps.

      @@JoshuaBardwell , is that the same for the balance traces its using to charge across?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  Před 4 lety

      No, definitely not. The balance wires themselves are not rated for high amps. The polyfuses kick in around 2 amps. Like I say in the video: you must charge at a slow rate if you use this hack. This is not a "good idea' for everyday use. It's a hack to use when you haven't got the correct adapter.

      @@JoshuaBardwell thanks for the reply,👍🏻, good idea for the micro quad batts, I'd probably connect it to the top of my balance board as it'll split the load across the tracks then, cheers again.

    SAFETY CONCERN! It seems that this adapter supplies power to one cell only instead of all four! Isn’t it? I wouldn’t cut any of those red wires but soldered them all to positive pin on the XT60 part of this adapter... Am I wrong?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  Před 4 lety +1

      You are wrong. Do not use this trick until you understand more.

  • @licensetodrive9930
    @licensetodrive9930 Před 4 lety +2

    If you have a parallel board with 6 XT30 sockets & 1S+2S+3S balance sockets for each, you can charge 12 XT30 2S batteries on it - plug 6 in normally, then plug the balance leads of the other 6 into the 3S sockets, making sure to not plug them into the wrong pins - print my balance port bungs and once installed you can't plug the 2S balance plug into the wrong pins of a 3S balance socket thingiverse.com/thing:3731075 and the bungs can't be plugged into the wrong end of the socket either.

  • @mrugrysek4201
    @mrugrysek4201 Před 4 lety

    Outside balance wires are already connected to the XT30 power leads inside the battery, so no danger to send a current through them instead of the main power wires. Unless of course you do not exceed their current rating.

    • @DoctorWhom
      @DoctorWhom Před 4 lety

      For parallel charging you typically charge more than one pack at a time. I think he realized this doesn't really scale up all that well, as the one balance lead has a maximum current rating. Might be worth figuring out how many amps the wire can take.

    • @mrugrysek4201
      @mrugrysek4201 Před 4 lety

      @@DoctorWhom I think this does not scale at all. ;-) The problem is not in the battery balance wires, they should easy handle 1A, but the fact that balance plugs, sockets and traces on the board are not designed to handle high current. JST-XH balance socket is designed to handle 3A, and all the charge current will go through the socket connected by the "interface cable" to the XT60 connector. And also throuch it's traces. So this is the limit.
