How to Make Chords & Chord Progressions (the easy way) | Logic Pro X Tips & Tricks Tutorial
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 26. 09. 2019
- In this video I'm going to be showing you guys some great ways to get started with making chords and chord progressions in Logic Pro X. I'm going to go over how to implement the infamous 'ghost notes' that everyone talks about with FL Studio, some basic music theory, and how to make major and minor chord progressions. Although I am using Logic Pro X, the theory of this tutorial can be applied in any DAW (FL Studio, Ableton Live, Cubase, etc.) Enjoy!

This is awesome! Coming up with chord progressions was my biggest hurdle in making music and now I'm already feeling like I'm going to finish my first track soon! I also love that you mention the hotkeys since I learn better by using them in tutorials rather than looking them up and memorizing them
Awesome! Really happy you found the tutorial useful. Sidebar: I have a tutorial coming out in 2 minutes that is about chord progressions too! Check it out.

Thanks for the emphasis on hotkeys, I always see mixes getting a lot better after brushing up on core skills like that.
Hot keys are the best way to increase creativity. Getting the ideas out faster makes it easier to move through your productions.
Thanks for watching, and if you like hot keys, check out this video:

Perfect. I was considering the purchase of a plug-in that lets you experiment with cord progressions and then gives you guides based on that to rapidly build out complexity, but I thought to myself that their MUST be a way to see ghosted tracks behind the part that you are editing. After poking around in logic for a day or two and not finding it, I decided I would need to set aside some time to do some research. But then like magic your video popped up in my feed (I had not yet begun to look for a method). This is exactly what I needed to know so that I can streamline building out parts. Thanks!
Glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching + the comment!
I am just starting to get into this aspect of Logic. You made it look easy. Very good lesson. Thank you.

Man...thank you so much! For those of us who donât know music theory, this content is game-changing! I just made a dope chord progression after watching this video. Please keep pumping out this super helpful content. Youâve got my sub 100% :)
Love it my man! That was the goal of this video. I think the biggest hurtle with being a producer if you've never played an instrument before is not having any theory background. This video hopefully helps with that! Thanks for watching đ
Tony Holiday youâre 100% right about that! Trust me, this helps so so much
Awesome man, thanks for the shout. Take care đ€đ€

Sorry if I commented this like a month ago but one of my favorite midi fx is the chord trigger, and wonderful people have programmed 100s of these chord trigger setups and provides a way to play just a root note of each chord and efficiently make progressions! Itâs just awesome
True! But then you don't learn how to make chords and start from scratch. You'll be your most creative when you can truly explore music from it's base tonality.
Thanks for the comment!

Man, I gotta say it's super sick! Though I do not really understand some concepts 100%, you still saved me! Without any doubt, your tutorials are GORGEOUS!
Hey Shawn! Happy to hear they helped you out đ
I will admit sometimes my way of explaining things isnât the easiest to grasp. Which parts were hard to understand? Maybe I can help clarify what was unclear.
Thanks for watching!
@@itstonyholiday Sure! Like the rules for the "1 3 5"? Do we do the "1 3 5" for all chords?
Shawn Chen Chords are typically made up of 3 notes, however they do not have to be 1 3 5. 1 3 5 are the numbers coinciding with the notes in the major scale and happen to make up a major chord. Best way to learn this I would say is search up âbasic music theory/chord structureâ on CZcams. Thereâs guaranteed to be some great videos that can explain it better than me! Thanks again
Clear, concise, and helpful. Amazing! Your hairstyle was so nice I was keep distracted by it lol
Ha! Thank you for the kind words, really appreciate you watching and I'm glad you liked the content.
I already know music theory but Iâm not the best at playing chords yet. I canât believe I havenât thought of this workaround for ghost notes in logic tho... thanks for bringing it to my attention!!!đđŸ

Good looking out on ghost notes method, I might have to save a MIDI file folder with all scales and drop them in when starting new projects
Not a bad idea at all! You can also use the scale quantize method when you know what scale you want. But I do agree, the visual aspect is much easier.
