Last time I talked about the Lion King, we were seeing just how big the body count was for this beloved Disney movie and sayong Scar was the rightful king. WEll, we are leaning into that even HARDER this time! Today, I want to talk about the sibling rivalry to end all sibling rivalries - Scar and Mufasa. 11:41 So the entire scene was meant to give those who knew all this a heart attack that Rafiki was dead, when, prior to that, he basically held Simba up for the kingdom and then screwed off somewhere. And lived through the ordeal, even being able to help Simba, Nala, Timon and Pumba.

How Pride Rock ended up so desolate and wasteland-ish is because you have (in movie presentation) two massive groups of predators hunting in the same turf. Overtaxing of the prey animals tips the scales, and yes, when Scar becomes Lion Tartar is when things start to go right, because Simba tells the Hyenas to beat it, thus lowering the number of Predator groups back down to 1. That's how I see it anyway.
It's also possibly supernatural, cause why on earth would a ghost of Mufasa appear in an otherwise grounded film (as grounded as it can be what with the talking animals and all)?
I forgot how good James Earl Jones' voice acting is.

Well, they were really hungry from not eating in a little while and when simba went back, it’s mostly just the hyenas and lions, showing that the rest were eaten or left. They probably ate him because they were really hungry and there were no animals around

@@somecirclewithsunglasses3994 hyenas can and do ear lions in the wild it's just not as common. The movie employs a hyenas or practically starving so it wouldn't be a stretch that they ate mufasa. It's possible scar joined them in the feasting since the skull is in scars cave.

It’s a baboon skull and if you look up a baboon skull the proportions are the same
Ok the lion king is based of Shakespeares play hamlet and in that the skull hamlet is holding belonged to his jester
So presumably scar has a baboon as a jester, got fed up of his act ( literally) and killed him and now keeps his skull
And mufasas body, most likely bugs, birds scavengers since apparently hyenas don’t eat lions and neither do lions ( discovery channel and natural geographic say otherwise )

When I was watching the live action version of TLK I got to the part where Scar was feasting on some sort of huge animal and did a proposal to Sarabi but she refused, but after that Scar said "The lions will eat after the hyenas" than all of the hyenas ran up to the meat and started munching on it like your chewing corn. The prey or predator Scar was eating was large with bones or maybe ribs sticking out of the top so maybe it was Mufasa's body but Sarabi mentioned Scar was over hunting

Also don’t forget that Scar thought Simba was Mufasa when he returned to reclaim the Pride Lands, meaning that Scar probably just left Mufasa’s body in the gorge and never went back to it. It was plausible to Scar that Mufasa survived, which wouldn’t make sense if Scar ate Mufasa.

I always imagined that Mufasa's body naturally decayed, and became a patch of grass beneath the tree he died under. Y'know, because of the whole speech he gave Simba. I imagine that spot being kinda like a grave site that Simba and his pride visit to pay respects. Anyway, thank you for debunking this theory.
i would have rather want that than what actually happened to his body, he didnt turn into grass and instead his body was consumed by vultures and/or bugs, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

If Scar is dumb despite of all of his accomplishments, that is one lucky lion.
The most plausible explanation as to why he reacted that way is most likely because of shock. Or the fact that there are no more male lions around the time of Scar's rule. So naturally, he'd assume a male lion standing in front of him would be Mufasa because Simba is literally his son and they would naturally look somewhat similar

It's waaaay too long, you don't even need to know how a Lion skull looks like to realise that the skull is too elongated to be a lion skull... At first I thought it was a wolf skull because of how elongated it was (if you check, a wolf skull is way more similar), but then I saw it has those ridges over the eye sockets which reminds of human skulls or primate skulls in general.

Some more proof is that when Scar sees Simba, he mistakes Simba for Mufasa, and if you’ve eaten something (or someone in this scenario) you know it’s gone. So, yes, MatPat is right.

To be honest I think scar was just an incapable leader that didn't plan for the dry season because of course we're in Africa and Africa has periods of dry seasons so his poor leadership skills almost doomed The pride because he refused to follow the ways of nature any refused to learn the lessons that Mufasa was instilling in Simba at least in my opinion that's how I want to see that and it wasn't Simba that returned the reins it just so happens that the dry season finally came to an end

They might have intentionally made the skull a baboon skull to parallel how a baboon was Mufasa's friend. Showing a dark twist with a deceased baboon being Scar's play-thing.
It could also be more referencing Hamlet, which was where the story of The Lion King originally got inspiration from (I know that there was some Japanese movie in the middle, but whatever). Likely a reference to the skull of Yorick, which Hamlet is most iconically known for holding. Since we don't have humans in this movie, the skull of a baboon would have been the closest thing to a human skull that they could get.

A bunch of other people have already said it but; I think the biggest thing against this is that when Simba returns, Scar thinks that he's Mufasa, which implies he didn't actually do anything with the body and was therefore able to doubt that Mufasa had died.

That part, while it makes the circle of life idea of the movie very interesting, is incorrect. He still would have been decomposed by bacteria, fungi, insects and other decomposers like snails. So the nutrients in his body still would have been used by other organisms part of the environment.

Mufasa's explanation of the food chain is awesome. He explains death to a kid, in a meaningful way and respecting Simba's intelligence and ability to learn. He leaves the gory details of being eaten or decomposing, but still introduce their place in the Circle of Life.
Mufasa was a great father to simba for that telling simba something dark while not really making it dark great parenting skills right there
