    FYI you’re setting yourself up for communication failures. EXACTLY like the terminators you discussed in the NMEA2000 portion, the various SmartCraft networks require 2x120ohm resistors for a total resistance of 60ohms. The red cap you removed has the resistor built in. Without that resistor installed, your resistance increases to 118-120 ohms and has potential to cause communication errors, or worse: PCM/CCM and component failures. BLACK caps are weather caps. Red and yellow 10 pin caps have terminators built in. Yellow caps only terminate the Can P network, whereas the red caps provide additional networks with a resistor as well. The method shown in this video is prone to errors. As mentioned by other commenters; use the plug on the helm harness. If you don’t have a helm harness, use a terminator adaptor harness in between gateway and connector on engine harness.

    If the Merc Monitor is a Level 1 gauge, there is a N2K pigtail in the back of it already and also, Bob's Machine has come out with a N2K jackplate sensor that will display the height on your unit.......Great videos as well.

    The red cap is a resistor and its required. Connect the gateway at the helm in an already available port from the junction box.

      Good point! The junction box under the dash is right there by the graph. My Mercmonitor already had an NMEA gateway builtin so I got the connection from it and didn't need a gateway.

    NMEA 2000 data is very cool. I purchased a new Nitro early this year and put the BBT mount and it covered several gauges. I have mine wired to display engine data and my fuel and it will read out fuel level in percentage. Bob's recently came out with a connection for their jackplate, I may add that at some point too.

    There should have been a spare port for gateway under the console where SC gages connect.

    Did the port that you are using not have the Smartcraft gage cable connected, which means it will not longer function? I understood that in order to have both the NMEA connection to your graph and the smart craft gage, that another component is required to create and additional connection on your engine.

    Were the terminator questions resolved? I am planning on installing the gateway on my new boat but I am not sure which data cable to purchase specifically if I need to keep my terminator.

    You have SC gages. There should be a spare port for plugging in your gateway under the dash.

    Do you have the Mercury part number of the module that plugs into the motor and turns it into the NMEA 2000?

    Have a mercury command thrust 115 4stk mercury data cable to a junction box to the mercury gateway to the backbone then to a Lowrance elite. Ti2 I also added a fuel sensor. All my gauges work except the 2 I need the most trim and fuel I am at the end of my rope cant seem to get any answers why it’s not working PLEASE HELP

      @@KenSmithFishing I finally figured it out 150 bucks later needed a can bus and resistor cable, even the dealer had no idea how they went together, ended up talking to a guy who sells the parts on ebay. thanks for the reply maybe I will do a youtube video on it.

    It's not cheap... The nmea kit for the motor. Nmea starter kit. Nmea cable for the graph. Probably $400 - 500 total.

    fellows, this video shows very, very bad practise!!! you just compromised the smart craft network by removing one of the resistors. Since you have a gauge at the dashboard which you can't see anyway you can disconnect it from the Junction box and connect the gateway there. Or if you lucky you have a spare socket in the j-box and just need to plug the gateway there. You definitely should pin a comment showing that what you have done is totally wrong way to go ... !

      @@KenSmithFishing a CAN network to work as designed needs two terminators of 120 ohm at each end of the "backbone". On this video you removed one without substitute, thus compromising reliability of SC network. At the dashboard you most likely have a junction box installed, where you easily can connect NMEA2k gateway without removing anything. This way you guarantee the integrity of the SC network, adding the functionality you are looking for ...

    Hello. It’s not a NEMA network, it’s a NMEA network. I know it’s harder to pronounce, but let’s get it right guys

  • @nmea2020
    @nmea2020 Před 2 lety +2

    NMEA is 12VDC....NEMA is for SHORE POWER 120VAC ....That is why you should pronounce it "N,M,E,A" and not NEMA....Please be professional and say it correctly.
    If you say it wrong you will also spell it wrong. Proof is in your video title
