- Following reckless remarks inciting violence by the EFF's Julius Malema, DA Leader John Steenhuisen addresses the nation.
The DA unreservedly condemns the chanting of “Shoot to kill” and "Kill the Boer, kill the farmer” by Julius Malema during the EFF anniversary rally.
We view this act as completely unacceptable and firmly believe that the incitement to violence has no place in our society.
The bigger and stronger the DA, the better we will be able to stop Malema in his tracks.
The ANC won't stop Malema because they fully agree with his agenda.

I see my brothers and sisters of diversity help one another day in and day out. I see these brothers and sisters work hard on the farms, in stores and on the streets in support of a growing nation and hungry families. I see my white brothers trying to do right by my black brothers because of a government of past filled with fear, fear that came to be not simply because no it came from the difference in culture not yet fully understood and upon it a history of bloodshed and violence.
I hear this blame game so many times. Directed by those that are stuck in the past. Like demons festering the mind, always whispering you are hurt and you are hateful. But the past does not exist yet it grabs hold of our present and it destroys our future.
I feel the actions that feed racism from both sides. From the brothers in power destroying and looting everything we as a people built and fought for and the unfairness some brothers hold over others and the list will go on. Yet the countless good we have done for one another over and over every day is silenced by the noise of anger. We are human we make mistakes but we are a nation also and above all we need to come together as one. Move past your ego and pride that’s a fool’s game to a fool’s end.
Your perception of different cultures shouldn’t be defined by those who belittle, find it in the grace of family.
I’ve found that my white brothers are fond of and good at dreaming of the future. My black brothers are strong and willing they dream of the present and so together a country was built.
