That's the nice thing about Brian May, the dude's not full of himself, he knows that he doesn't have to prove himself.
His band's one of the biggest to ever exist. He's wildly intelligent and one of the most beloved names in rock history, good for him!
He knows they must have been huffing Krylon when they made that list.
Didn't he get a degree in Astro Physics awhile back ?
I hardly know what that is. Maybe why his response was so measured and humble.
@@glenkepic3208 He's a PhD, yes. Maybe if they ranked guitar legends by level of education you could definitely say he's the top :D
He wrote some of queens dirtiest songs too lol
I second that!!!❤️❤️👍👍
The fact that Brian May earned a PhD in astrophysics after becoming a rock star proves that he has a lot of humility about the importance of his legacy as a guitarist.
And you missed the fact he was knighted by the King recently so now it's Sir Dr. Brian May - Now THAT's a legacy.
He should’ve done the PHD in music
@@Jabba-le-feminist-hating-Hutt No, he should be given an Honorary PhD, because it's below him at this point.
I have nothing but respect for Sir Brian, anytime he speaks he makes me want to listen to what he has to say.
ibid Neil Peart, RIP.
@@DerekKerton rip? He’s not dead
I agree wholeheartedly
He is a physicist, maybe thats why.
😅
It's Dr.Brian May.
Respect to Brian, so softly spoken & unbelievably humble...
One might say, "a true gentleman".
@cliff What is a "jab pusher"?
@@cliff-nb6bm What does that mean?
It must be hard to be humble when you are Brian May.
@@cliff-nb6bmWhat a bizarre thing to say. You are a strange one.
If the list is “ Worlds Best Astrophysics PhD Guitarist” then Sir Dr. Brian Harold May PhD CBE *_DEFINITELY_* takes the top spot!
🤣Made my morning!
@@stevegutierrez2783 I was just about to reply with "This made me smile", but you kind of beat me to it. :)
What about the lead singer from the Offspring lol? He’s got a P.H.D. In molecular biology (I think that’s the subject)
Well what about it? This isn't about him this is about Brian May.
I fully agree with placing Brian as #1. There are many talented guitarists, and I have many favorites, but Dr. May is my MOST absolute favorite. He also has the best (hand-made) unique sounding guitar.
Brian May is an absolute class act, super humble.
Sir Brian Harold May is just demonstrating how humble he is and how much he respects his fellow guitarists around the world.
It's just a measure of the sort of gentleman he is.
This is EXACTLY why I love Brian May so much. Great guitarist and a great human being!
Brilliant guitarist and human . He is so bright and has accomplished so much yet remains a humble soul . Nothing but love and respect from this fan . Congratulations Sir Brian May
Apparently making a movie about yourself and then scrubbing it to make you look perfect is "being humble".
@@Fireglo Don’t think the focus of the movie was about Brian May. I agree it wasn’t accurate in the time line, and it made all look perfect (except Freddie, of course). It was a”movie”. And yes, in interviews, including this one, Brian is humble. Movie was out 5 yrs. ago. Wish people saying” it’s because of the movie”, would give it a rest.
What movie???🤔......
@@FiregloI bet you'd go crazy for a Led Zeppelin movie.
@@Theprophet3928 there already is a Led Zeppelin movie called The Song Remains the Same.
Finally some recognition for Nuno Bettencourt
Also Jake E Lee needs recognition, same with Vito Bratta in my opinion.
@@metallion0738
The solo to wait is probably one of the best solos I've ever heard.
Yes, and I noticed that Brian listed Nuno first among his favorites. Nuno is a guitar god.
An endorsement from Brian May is a big deal and it speaks volumes for Nuno and Brian.
@@TheAgentAssassin link please?
Amazing humble response... One thing I admire about Brian is he has ZERO ego... BTW, Nuno is an underrated amazing guitarist!
Nuno is great, and it goes in a circle, as Nuno quote Brian May as one of his main inspirations.
Agree with what Brian said, there's no competition. We look at bigger picture, how a guitarist create arts by the way they play, the way they play by heart for their works. Kurt Cobain is the good example just as Brian said, not a very technical guitarist but what a massive impact his playing is for the music in general.
Jimi hendrix?
@@jaxsienplays9884 and....Joe Satriani? Stevie Ray Vaughn? Steve Vai? Eddie VH? Mark Knopfler? Sir Brian is good, quite good indeed.... but number 1...?
Satch said in an interview that today, there are plenty of good technical guitar players, but there is far less that create great sounding music.
@@cdsersd2d Exactly, creating good sounding music does not necessarily require technical ability
Not to mention all of the different genres beyond rock that have brilliant guitarists as well. Classical, flamenco, country etc etc.
brian may has explained this as eloquently as possible. god bless him.
And don't forget that Dr May did a lot of advancements in electric guitars. His tremolo mechanism and the pickup toggle switches were light years ahead from the guitars of his time
Brian May is deffo one of my favourites and he can have that title with my blessing. I love that special sound Queen has
@Brian May🎸 Iam absolutely fine and very thrilled to receive a reply from my hero in music and love of animals
And THAT, is why we love him and we feel and think he is the best of all time. I'm so proud to be his fan.
Why did CZcams remove the robyn
Flash videos?
Wow !! So much dignity, humility and grace !! We should all aspire to be as great as him
Brian is one my favorites hands down.❤
I have loved Dr. Brian for decades. He is a beautiful guitarist and even more beautiful human.
Thanks for your support ❤
Beautiful humans didn't support Apartheid in South Africa back in the '80s and play to segregated audiences.
@@user-io7kl7io6j Yes, that was a mistake and he has said so. But in 2003, Nelson Mandela asked Brian and Roger to help with a concert for AIDS. They produced the concert and performed. Brian and Roger composed new songs at Mandela's request. IMO, if Mandela can forgive the apartheid concerts, I can too.
Brian May has his feet firmly planted on the ground. He is highly intelligent and highly talented as a guitar player and musician. He is not an egotist, in fact quite humble for a megastar.
What a humble person is Brian May❤
I can appreciate the technical players with my mind but I love Brian’s playing with my heart. And his sound is so distinctive! What’s really incredible with Queen solos is melody. How many other solos could one hum recognisably? Amazing melodies.
He is so humble. He created music that were masterpieces and that were untouchable.
Just nothing but class! Brian May is just a Phenom....
Respect !! Amazing musician, intelligent and with a heart the size of the world!!
Everything he said was spot on... As usual.
His talent and attitude are everything! So very good and humble and just loveable.
Sir Brian is such an intelligent and thoughtful person.
Class act
Legend
To me, Brian is a great musician/guitar player. It doesn't matter how much more skilled the others are. Music is feeling.
True...otherwise malmstein would be the greatest guitarist of all time lol def one of the best shredders...but I can't listen to that for too long.
Brian is so nice to listen to, very soothing voice and he is very humble and clever. Gotta love him
Nuno is amazing and super underrated
One of the few artists I would LOVE to meet and have a calm conversation with. Such a sweet human being.
Sheer Heart Attack. I was introduced to Queen by the album. Still my favorite of theirs. Congratulations Sir Brian.
I love Sir Dr. Brian May....always a gentleman...always humble.
He's definitely one of the best I love how humble he is yet grateful for the award. He's a brilliant speaker too.
Well deserved. My favorite of all time.
And I say amen Brian. We have favorites, all guitarists are different
As a kid growing up in the 80s, Brian May, Mark Knopfler and Prince were my top 3 guitarists.
Out of your three picks, I choose Mark knopfler 🎸
He as a direstraits lead member n then as solo player he tuned so many memorable tracks.
Simply scintillating n melodious.
Hail Mark. 🙏
Jeff Healy is someone that should also be mentioned great feel for guitar as he lost his sight at young age
and could you imagine learning to play with the instrument held across your lap..? -- quite amazing and unique.
Jeff was amazing. The first album see the light was superb.
So true everything he said, May is definitely one of my faves!
Amazing sense of harmony , fierce attack and guitar tone that is unequaled by anyone
Brian is my hero. So humble, so under rated and always so much himself.
excellent response, Brian. Very humble indeed
So humble person🧡
I loved his response and totally agree with it
Sir Brian always manage to capture the essence of all things. Wonderfull.
I wanted to come in here saying no way is Brian May THE best guitarist ever but his tribute to all these other guitarists was so lovely and enjoyable to watch. Such a classy response by Brian, and he really is one of the greatest for sure.
It's not just about shredding. Brian's solo is completes the song.
Respect to him for listening to and being able to talk about other guitar players other than the same 3-4 from the late 60's that everyone seems to talk about in his generation. You can tell he's made an effort to keep up with what's going on since Queen's prime and has respect for all musicians not just the British blues rockers.
Those 3 or 4 are talked about for a reason
An amazing guitarist with killer tone.
Amen!
Rory Gallagher gave him that Tone 😏
@@marklally9185 true
Killersound....😅Hubba Hubba.
Brian May made amazingly catchy melodies. The guitar on Killer Queen is so great!
What a lovely bloke he is.
Nuno Bettencourt !! Thank you BRIAN MAY for that mention !!
He's definitely the greatest guitarist in Queen.
What a legend congratulations to him ❤️
The bottom line is, music is NOT a race. We all have our heroes & some of us share heroes, icons & legends. But there will always greats that no one's ever heard of. Enjoy the talents among us - stay inspired & rock on.
The greatest! Really a daft concept there are a number of great guitarists with different styles in different genres Brian is certainly one of them and a joy to listen to.
Brian didn't mention him but he has in the past that I think should definitely be in the discussion is Rory Gallagher, really underrated and deserves to be in the discussion.
Definitely
Awesome guitarist.
In the 70's, I was about 10, I heard Brain play my first words were, 'He makes it sing, really sing!' I was a Queen fan from then on.
Thank you for this Howard. Listened to your show since the seventies.
Very well spoken Brian!
Brian has always been humble.
Always loved Brian's Frankenstein Axe 🎸
You gotta love someone so humble, and just all-round general nice bloke ❤❤❤
In the world of lists, be a Brian May...
Brian May is a great person, and also a very good guitar player. Then he happen to be also a scientist with an astrophysics degree. He is a rockstar in every sense.
PhD actually.
His response ❤
Beautiful interview
Much respect. He is such a treasure.
a very well deserved and totally justified award
He is incredible! Good job.
bryan may the guitarist king awesome nuno bettencourt 3:00 amazing guitarists 🎸 🇵🇹 I'm very proud of nuno for representing us the portuguese
So humble
Brian May or Sir Brian May is one of the nicest and most humble person ever, he and Richie Sambora . Both of them is on top on my list :)
The sound, partly determined by the unparalleled band Queen!
And the very tasteful musical solos and harmonies, says more to me than the super technical guitarists!!
james patrick page
I 100% agree with Brian!
Numero Nuno! Fanatics since hearing play with me solo in bill and teds excellent adventure theater 1989 ftw 🙌
Nice and humble!! Keeping it real.
Hello 👋
Very humble legend
enjoyed this a ton. epic level of quality.
I appreciate Brian's honesty and humility. As a guitar player myself my other guitar influences are Steve Vai, Richie Sambora, EVH, Ritchie Blackmore, Toni Iommi, Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, and many more amazing axe players.
Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe
For all retractors, may said clearly, is not about competition is all about how to give something through the music , art and your inside. Is not a sport or a race . Its just rock and roll kids. Do not put so much effort to make a rank. Even if you have your favorites. Is not about that .
I know! Don’t think many listened to his answer. He can’t name everyone’s favorite in a short interview. He deserves his recognition. Next time GW picks best, others will go on & on about how it should be someone else!
He seems young and sharp for 75.
Brian May is a sole category of his own...
No matter what he is still one of the best
Brian has one of the greatest tones ever, I can put that out there without doubt.
It makes him Smile. No pun intended.
Great too see Nuno getting some well deserved recognition
would love a full interview on his approach to guitar and music theory
There's a good interview that Rick Beato did on CZcams.
I love Brian May
Class pure timeless class
For me you are❤❤❤
Brian is a great guitar player, but he is more than that because he helped write and perform all those wonderful songs by Queen, for me Queen are still one of the very best bands, just great memorable songs and brilliant performances.
Respect Brian May for his humble response. Too many Guitar God's makes it impossible to name the #1 best 🎸 ist.
Watching Terry Kath play always Made Me Smile✌
Wow thats the coolest response ever.
I agree totally.. Though there are amazing guitarists out there now and over the years.. Mark Knofler is one to mention too.. To be honest, I feel that when we are talking about the very best guitar players.. It comes down to personal opinions.
Hello 👋
Get Extreme into your studio Howard! Nuno will blow your mind with his skills. One of the most underrated guitarists ever.
WOW! This gentleman is so articulate!
Fair plày Brian- Icon of music- appreciate the honourable mention of Kurt😋❤️🔥🔥🍀🎸🎸🎸🎸💥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bryan May has the best guitar tone ever.
