I owned the KLF30’s which were fantastic speakers. $1,200 for KLF20’s is FAR above a Youthman Deal. I’m not even sure KLF30’s would sell for that much.

Coming to the end of my build. Thanks for the inspiration and help along the way. It's been a journey for sure. Started with an empty basement, it has come a long way. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the result. Even documented the transformation along the way on my channel. Nearing episode 20. I already have upgrades in mind, but it's the best space for movies I've ever had, and if did it all myself.
Couldn't agree more. Always buy the best gear you can afford, and if you are in it for long haul, cough up and spend a bit more, don't think of starting cheap and upgrading later, especially with speakers :) you will end up loosing more money.

I had an extra bedroom downstairs that we used for storage. It is not very large but I was able to convert it into a dedicated room for watching movies. I have been enjoying the room throughout Covid and to me it sounds amazing.

The best tips I have learned are:
1) Your theater is yours. Someone’s will always be “better” but that shouldn’t deter you from loving your own.
2) You will never have enough money, time or space. Accept that early and you will enjoy what you have so much more.

Regarding the conduit:
Run a pull string inside the conduit. That way if you want to add a new cable, you can pull the cable thru easily. Just remember to replace it if you do use it.
6:59 CONDUIT! yes i agree. i'm running all 1" pvc conduit for my communication runs. i recommend 1" conduit no matter what. i also have a 3" conduit run to pull my rca cables through. for long distance communication runs i use CAT 6/ HDMI conversions. i haven't gotten into FIBER yet, but i'm ready for it any time.
Well after 12 years I’ve finally upgraded my little home theater...so to say. Thanks to a nice promotion at work, wife and I bought a new fancy dark wood 4-piece entertainment center that takes up the whole front stage of the living room/home theater. There was no room for the Sony towers so I decided to replace all the speakers with Klipsch RP-400m bookshelves and RP-400c center, along with an SVS PB-1000 Pro. I have yet to upgrade the AVR which is about 15 years old now it but sounds pretty good so far. Without the towers, I seem to be lacking a little on the midbass. I would love to have purchased the RP-600s or even the 500s but there’s just no room for them. So I order a small 8 inch subwoofer and a 50 hz high pass filter and plan to use it as a midbass module behind the TV screen to help augment the 4 inch speakers. Does that sound like a good remedy? I did your number 3 tip and researched until my brain was numb before finally making a decision. I just hope when everything arrives next week that I wasn’t a waste of money and effort.

If you are running cables in drywall or anything that needs to be patched and painted, run wire channels and pull string through said channels, switching HDMI cables can be a PIA

I'm near the end of my build, carpet and hooking up my rack left. I DIY my basement, completely renovated with bar, bathroom and gameroom. Now finishing the theater.$ 37k later...lol 7.2.4 system klipsch, Marantz, and due to low ceiling I went with the vava 4k. Of course they have a new vava now dang it.
in the uk.we have dedicated 30 amp socket rings as standard. 😁 . even so, i had a dedicated fuse board and 5 x 30 amp double sockets fitted in my cinema room. so all of my main mono blocks , processor , etc are on separate supplies.
I was fortunate enough when I sold our house to have plenty of money to spend on this first go around. I will be able to go big from the get go! Yay!

Is funny how some things come out of know where on market place. High end LCR , well a Emotiva A 300 came up first and have already upgraded to the A3 - the life journey
I can relate to running cables in a hot attic. I live in Phoenix and I've done it in the summer and it felt like death. When it's 118 degrees outside, the attic feels like 500 degrees. Florida may be bad, but you have no idea!
I can only imagine Arizona attics get brutal. We rarely break 100 degrees actual temperature outside. Not sure how hot the attic gets. I just know it stinks going up there in the summer.

You ain't lying I bought 4 sony subwoofer with the money I was going to spend on a svs ultra sub.
FOMO I agree to a certain extent. Four entry level subs still are not likely to hit below 20Hz with authority. 😉
Generally true but not always. One certainty is that more surface area moving less is better than less surface area moving more. Another certainty is that you can always do better with high quality DIY subwoofers. For example build two or more subs with something like Dayton Reference or similar drivers instead of spending the same money on a single commercial sub.
You don’t need 4 subs most people don’t even need 3. One in front and one in back is fine, more subs does not mean more base. People go totally overboard with subs and I have no idea why. You get the base from the track not from adding a zillion subs. Spend the money on a better projector instead.
@@scotttild more subs = more seat to seat consistency and smoother response. Getting a good response between multiple seats with only 2 subs is hard and most people don’t have perfect rooms. I say add as many subs as you can. But buy good quality and slowly add more as you can budget it. Everyone likes different things. I like a lot of bass so I have multiple subwoofers, some people don’t like very loud bass, so run just 1 or 2. It’s all on what each person wants/needs, but even with 4 smaller subs can help smooth out the bass response
Questions I have a 18x20 living room with 22 foot heigh ceiling and I am thinking of doing Two pair of Floors Standing DA, one surround center and one pair of wired subwoofers, what do you think?

Can't stress that acoustic treatment enough! I'm designing/building speakers that minimize the need for acoustic treatment but I'll still be using a significant amount of engineered treatment. There are lots of videos demonstrating how to build acoustic panels. Also, no matter how wrong it's done, acoustic panels done totally wrong is still way better than none at all so don't be afraid to do it. It's actually pretty hard to screw up, they're pretty simple. Listen to Youthman, he's steering you right!

By the time you have soundproofed walls how much space is taken thickness from existing to added soundproofing.

What are your thoughts on a complete Monoprice Monolith build? The THX-460T get great reviews, they just dropped the 16in THX Certified Ultra, and people seem to like their amplifiers. It seems like an affordable way to build out a upper mid range theater.

Just in time !! Hello Youthman, I tell you that after 13 years the ceiling beams of my movie theater started with termite problems, so I embarked on the project of replacing my entire roof, and well, I had After disassembling all the equipment, I decided to do a total remodel.
I tell you that it is a very pleasant and exciting feeling to start with the blank canvas, correcting the mistakes learned during these 13 years, and applying the corrections from scratch.
Soon I will post the photos and videos of the process in the Facebook thread, and share this new adventure that I am starting.

Hmm, well I think I am still going along this path. I got a Klipsch home theater set up, (rc-64 iii, rf-7’s, and then Klipsch surrounds and bookshelf speakers. I’m still not sure what I will do or even if I will buy sub woofers, for I have never really herd a good sub woofer, beyond a Samsung soundbar’s sub woofer, for my family never got a sub woofer, since I think we have been fine with the bass from the regular speakers, but I am considering buying 2 pb-3000’s at this time. Though I don’t have my room yet, we still have to do some other things first. But I will consider the 20 amp circuit. But I am not sure if that will happen. I also won’t be placing a riser, since I can’t walk up steps, due to a disability. I will also be buying an led tv, since oled isn’t worth its cost, due to burn in, and other little things like that.
Okay, you can skip the pb-3000 comment, since I have seen the Black Friday deals, decided to go with 2 Klipsch 12 inch 120sw subwoofers hopefully I am not disappointed… but I may have to test them once I have them in my house….

Youthman love your insights on home theater creation. I am currently building my home theater and came across the debate of how big of speakers to go for my setup. I have heard conflicting information about how big speakers can over power your room and not sound good. But then I also hear that having large speakers have better quality and playing them at lower volumes will not over power the room and like you said in this video will future proof your setup. My home theater is in a 11ft (length) by 9 ft (width) by 8 ft (ceiling) and the speakers I am mainly concerned about are the klipsch rp-280fa and rp-600c or rp-450c. Are these speakers too big for my room size? May be a good video to make to discuss this topic also. Thanks youthman keep up the great content!
My room is slightly larger. 11’ x 13’ x 8’ ceilings. You can go as big as you want and as loud as your neighbors will allow. I have 3 LCR rp8000f 4 rp502s 4 rp500sa 2 svs pb3k. And I live in a townhouse 🥴 my neighbors have been trained 👍 treat your room acoustically and you’ll be fine. BIGGER is BETTER
@@michaelkreisel3573 That's what I was thinking too. The larger the speaker the better in quality. Also since my room is smaller I'm trying to decide on what to get for my center channel. It's between the rp-600c and rp-450c. I know that the rp-600c has dual 6.5 inch drivers and am thinking they will match the rp-280fa 8 inch drivers well. But I see many people pairing it with a quad driver center channel like the 450c but it has four 5.25 inch drivers. Is there a big difference in sound between the two?
@@trevor8281993 don’t be mis lead bigger speakers don’t always sound better than smaller ones. I had the rp504c tucked into one of those pockets in an entertainment center. NEVER do that, it needs to breathe. I since got rid of that and re-did all my gear and put it into a rack. I gave my dad my 504c and bought a 3rd 8000f. If at all possible you want the lcr (left center right) to match. Understand that not a single speaker works more and works harder than your center speaker. ALL dialogue and nearly everything else goes thru that center channel
@@michaelkreisel3573 I wish I could go LCR but with my setup it wouldn't be possible. I'm using the LG HU85LA ultra short throw projector so my center channel positioning is already a bit tricky. Down the road I will definitely go with an acoustic transparent screen. But in terms of center channels do you hear a big difference in sound between dual and quad drivers? I know the quad will produce a wider sound but what about a larger dual driver center channel like the rp-600c. My thought process is that it has 6.5 inch drivers and will match better with the rp-280fa 8 inch drivers. The rp-450c has 5.25 inch but 4 drivers. Just trying to figure out what the better match is? I know the center channel is the most active speaker so I want to get it right for my setup.
@@trevor8281993 I wish I could help you but I don’t know which one would fit your set up best. Maybe you can buy from a retailer that has a good return policy. I know amazon is 30 days. Maybe buy them both and return the one that don’t work. You can also call klipsch. And you can also look at those package deals and see how they match em up. I’ve upgraded so many times because I was chasing my room. Dad was the beneficiary. Of course he’s 82, I’ll get it back 😂 I can also say that if you treat your room that changes everything. So I’m not sure if you did that first or last. Like youthman suggssted, do that first

Hello Youthman, you had stated that you have a 13'x19' room with a 150" screen. Is your sound stage part of that measurement? How far does the first row sit from the screen?
Actual room is 13’ x 19’ with 10’ ceiling.
Cabinet is about 4’ deep.
My eyes are 9’ from the 150” diagonal, 2.35:1 screen.
It amazes me that you in usa do not have conduit as standard. Here in Europe, atleast in Scandinavia, everything is running in conduit. Electrical, Ethernet, everything. And it has been like this atleast since the 60s. You never have to tear down anything. So Basically instead like you do your Electric, here it would be conduit that the cables go in, then to the central.
It’s definitely a good idea to use conduit, but it’s not required here in the US. Even our power cables are just laying across rafters in the attic.
How do you decide what position to place all your speakers? Mathematically how would you do this. Because you would also have to account for reverberation.
You don’t have to account for reverberation, because you need to treat your room acoustically to prevent a lot of that. For speaker placement, Dolby website has layouts for each configuration

My BIG mistakes:
I sure wish I had ran all my wires to one central location. I started with a small entertainment center. As I added gear I needed a Bigger entertainment center. That took up too much wall space and then got a rack. I shoulda gone with a rack out of the gate 😡.
I wish I had ran wires for ceiling atoms when I tore up the upstairs carpet and installed wood floor. I coulda ran wires then.... missed opportunity...
I did the 1 1/2 Id pvc. Good luck trying to get and hdmi cable around the corner. You will struggle with that first one but no way your getting the second one. Put the pvc together on the floor with your corners and push the intended wires through before you install it and dry wall over it.
I wish I had spent a few extra dollars on insulated speaker wire. The cheap wire I bought is aluminum clad and literally falls apart 😢

Hey I just wanted to ask what do you think of pairing 2 Klipsch rf-7 iii’s with 2 Klipsch R-120Sw subwoofers, that I got for about half off, at Best Buy for Black Friday… I just wanted to ask and see what you thought about the subwoofer before I actually open the box, and thus void the return policy… though I don’t see a review posted for the Klipsch 12 inch subwoofers on your channel. So that is why I wanted to ask that here.
I personally have not heard the R - 120SW but it is Klipsch’s entry level “Reference” subwoofers. The RF7 III would be two tiers above that series (Reference, Reference Premiere, RF7 III)
@@Youthman hmm, well I will hopefully hold them unboxed, and figure out what kind of deal I can get for the SVS subs on Monday… though I am not sure yet, as to which set I would prefer to keep, since I have never been a fan of bass, but I have never herd good bass, which could be my issue for now.
I wouldn’t expect to get amazing bass from a $200-$300 sub.
Do you have to use an anamorphic lens with your NX7 on that big 150” screen or do you find that it provides enough brightness on its own? Thanks!
I would love to have an anamorphic lens but I’m not sure the cost would justify the benefit for me. It would be great if it was brighter but Im very pleased with the NX7’s performance in my room.

I regret not buying separates. I wish I could use XLRs cables now that I’ve invested in amps. For the money I paid buying the Denon 6700H, I could of used $$$ towards an Emotiva or Monolith processor that has XLR connections. Even a Marantz processor would have been nice.
You can always upgrade to separates down the road. It took me 13 years before I did.

98% of these room 1 or 2 subs at the most is fine, more subs does not mean more base. People go out and get 8 subs and then a pixel shifting projector to save a few bucks. Get a native 4k projector and one sub.
Deep blacks, color accuracy and contrast ratio are far more important than native 4K vs pixel shifting.
2 of your tips would have been valuable when I had the walls open 2 years ago. Conduit, and running a dedicated 20 amp. I eventually added a dedicated 40, but it wasn't cheap.
I also wish I would have invested in a GOOD processor and separates from day 1 - and I wish I knew about Marty's before I paid almost $700 to ship my Monoliths to Alaska.

I know risers for stadium seating are popular in home theaters, but I just don't see the appeal. I'd rather sacrifice a couple seats for more consistent viewing angles and closer seating to screen.
The appeal for it in my room is if I did not have a riser for the second row, they would have an obstructed view of the screen.
And if I cannot fit my entire family in my theater room, it would be pointless to have one.

Nothing wrong with that. IMO, couches are for the living room. I want my theater room to be a different experience.

Wow, that's was useful, thank you Michael. It seems that every time someone decide to built a Home Theater, some mistakes will happen not matter how hard you try to avoid them.
But isn’t that life in general? Important thing is that we learn from our mistakes and share those mistakes with others so that they can hopefully avoid them

Most important point is to have a Concept (Acoustic, Placement, Room Planing, Calibration etc..) and not buy & install Gear after Gear just because it has a big name on it. And FB Groups are mostly more useless than helpful
I have built numerous friendships and have learned from others through various Facebook Groups.
They are no different than the days of forums. Some people in them have more knowledge than others. They offer value in the ability to share knowledge as well as experiences.
@@Youthman Of course its great to have a community and to build contacts. Maybe its just my experience and my taste of listening. When i wouldnt have gone my own way i would still have speaker from these big hifi brands in the scene because 90% of group members have mostly the same speaker, and this who have other brands are mostly the ones who go their own way. A lot of people just have no clue and maybe also not the serious thinking behind a Hifi setup. You can filter what is uefull for you but i would never buy a product just because someone says that. And another thing is, without Facebook or Insta the lifestyle is way better ;-) - i was also many years in Hifi & Acousitic Groups but without Social Media the life is just better

Michael…My wife has finally given me the green light to get me a projector / large screen added to my setup,,,her request however is to keep my OLED because it’s how she loved to watch and consume her content. This will require me to try a similar solution as you have done with mounting the screen on a shocks and hinge system. Have you posted pictures of your setup or build online somewhere I can give a look or links to the parts you used?

Man I wish these types of videos were around when my wife and I built our home in 2005. We did many things right but we also did many things wrong, plus omitted many things out of ignorance. And unfortunately, the company that handled all of our AV/Networking installation was not very good. They failed to educate us about many elements of home theater. I could tell even back then that they did not have a passion for the work and thus took no pride in the finished product. Unfortunately, we were made to believe that we were locked into using that company because they worked directly with our home builder. We were told that nobody else could do any installation work until after the sheetrock was up. If I knew then what I know now!
Man that’s unfortunate to hear. I too wish these types of videos were around when I was building My Home Theater. That’s why I’m trying to make a difference
@@Youthman And your passion shows through! I know many guys that claim to enjoy home audio and video. And they do. They just don't have a passion for it. When you have a passion for something, you want to learn as much as you can about it. Then inevitably you also feel the need to share what you've learned with the people around you. The online AV community is vital because as you know technology is forever changing. "AV receiver technology I'm looking right at you! As for you, speaker technology, you've always been consistent!"
