      Well, I also buy them because of smart TV's with slow or broken software - I can't watch iPlayer on my 2019 TV (It just goes to a black screen) but it's fine through a Chromecast (every other app is fine 🤷‍♂️)
      I don't hate there being a more premium entry in the line and I'd probably get it by choice, but I still wish both were available.

      What will change is that Google will no longer be the default engine on Apple, Apple will just give you a choice of search engines to set as a default or possibly make their own search engine. Now i'm not really sure if Apple will make their own search engine because an antitrust lawsuit has been going on with Apple for a long time. Unless Apple makes their own search engine, nothing will really change much because people will still set Google as their default.

      Apple's defense to not providing cables is that customers already own their own cables and continuing to ship them with new phones promotes e-waste. To say nothing of the customer having to go buy their own cables elsewhere anyways *and* the fact that Apple products are like the pinnacle of planned obsolescence e-waste to begin with.

      Apple is easy and popular to hate on, but at least they support their products for much longer. The Apple TV HD lost support after 8 years but only got dropped by Netflix last month. Nearly 10 years. Google can and should do better.

    The new Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber, is only in Office since December 2023. Before that she worked in various roles at Unilever, where she was last responsible for the food brands part of the business. Stuff like Hellmann's Mayo, Knorr, Magnum icecream and such.
    She got a master in economics and a Bachelor in Journalism and it's very likely that she has no bloody clue about the technical side of computer peripherals, their market and it's peculiarities. She's probably used to uncritical press and influencers instead of the scrutiny and criticism the tech sector is used to.
    Chances are she was happily managerially bullshitting along. She'll probably have realized by now that that doesn't fly in her new job.
    We'll soon find out if there will be a learning curve.

I don't know how people like you think we can build these AIs without training it on the collective data of humanity. Like what, we're just not supposed to have video generating AI because you decided? I do not support people using those tools to replicate anyone's style or content and publish it online, but training's different.

AI companies need to compensate whoever’s data they are using. Training an AI is using the data for a commercial purpose. The law already covers it, the TOS prohibits it.

      It was never good; they just stuck useful tools at the top. PageRank (along with page designers' natural incentive toward SEO) _ruined_ search. PageRank engines give terrible results & not a single one supports a strict NOT filter (searches like: juicy fruit -gum).
      Google bought tie-ins & shamelessly promoted directly to businesses. They did not become the default search by ever having been the best search.

      Yeah, what exactly is their competition?
      Apple waits for tech to be market proven, before pretending they invented it.
      Bing has a big hole to dig out of, to regain any kind of search market share (meanwhile search itself is increasingly infeasible).
      Amazon has tons of AWS usage data to sell, but nowhere near the wealth of userdata Google can offer...
      They perennially attempt technological moonshots (some of which succeed), just to have the IP... & then squat on it because it isn't insanely profitable enough.
      They're like a cartoon archetype: Omnicorp Consumer Products; Octopus Inc; VaultTec; Google.

    We need a browser we pay for, so it caters to our needs. Same with search engines and AI. Then, you're paying, you can get the content you want, not the content they want to present you.
    The theory is beautiful but, sadly, when we look at paid streaming services / platforms we clearly see they're not designed to best serve us, but to push low cost content or whatever is on their own political agenda.

      You will never establish that. People aren’t just expecting for services on the internet to be free, it is completely ingrained in their minds that these services ARE free. When CZcams started tightening their adblock policies, lots of people literally argued that it’s silly to pay for a free service and that CZcams shouldn’t ask any money for it at all because it is free. When you explain to these people that even their Gmail account actually costs money to run their brains crash.

      @@karlhungusjr1you can actually somewhat find the info for America and it’s not even close to 95 percent. Colgate is a little below 50 percent and crest is like 35-40 percent and the rest of the brands fill in the gaps. This was all info from 2020 but I doubt it changed much since 2024

      @@JamesSmith-iq2sh Some people write out their message and rewrite bits of it, making it read funny. Others don't want to spend more time to clean their message. I'd argue that a well written message without any typos or issues is more suspicious than one with grammar issues and a missed space, but you do you, I hear "prove you're not an AI" callouts are really popular these days.

So if Google is forbidden from paying to third parties for including Google Search, Firefox is in serious trouble. And while across all platforms Safari is Google’s biggest competitor, on Linux and WIndows, it’s Firefox because virtually every other browser is based on Chromium.

    People just never bothered using any other search engine and just assumes Google is the best. Well it was 10 years ago but the competition has caught up. In fact I've seen multiple (many many times) that Bing delivered way better results than Google. Sometimes Bing sucks too but that doesn't make Google 'THE BEST'.

      I switched to DuckDuckGo about 2 months ago. Supposedly it's similar to Bing. But boy it is so bad. I constantly have to manually go bacl to google to find results that are actually relevant or up to date. I feel like it just picks the biggest buzz words in your query and ignores other parts that are crucial for the results you actually want

      In California they have to give you a 60 day notice before laying you off. Most companies just tell you not to come to work for the next 60 days. You get full pay and benefits during that time and are technically still an employee.

    Google should just be treated as Global Public Infrastructure.
    Because it is.
    It shouldn't be a company anymore.

    LTT is the only tech reviewer to claim that the new Ryzen chips run better than last gen's, and that's while ignoring the X3D variants. Every other reviewer has the new AMD chips performing roughly the same as the 7000 (non-X3D) equivalent.
