How LUCKY I feel on this Friday the 13th for a ride on the River Dart with my favorite nautical couple, Aquaholic's finest. Boating - even from an armchair - is the best way to cancel out all forms of misfortune. Thank you both for this relaxing treat.

“Hire a little boat” best advice ever.
We hired a a little dingy with an outboard last year in Fowey, went up and down the estuary a couple of times.
Absolute highlight of my week’s holiday.
Totally agree, we hired a boat much like the one Nick points out in this video last year on the river Fal, probably the best £100 (between 6 of us) we spent all holiday! Fantastic afternoon out!!
Lovely to see the River Dart, we hired one of those yellow boats from Dartmouth last year, I spent most of the time imitating Nick, saying "if you're floating you're boating!" 😂🏴☠️
I love that laugh when you shut the SL roof. I do that eveytime I watch my CLK roof shut looking at all the intracacies!

That was lovely to see dear Dartmouth! My parents used to have there boat at Dart Marina! That brought happy memories back As both my parents have passed on, my dad 22 years ago now and my mum died in 2019 aged 95! Thank you ever o much for brining fond memories to life!

A lovely afternoon on the river. Takes me back to the '70's and the River Thames with my old Andrews Slipper launch with its original 750cc Austin 7 engine. Just bimbling quietly along, resting for a picnic in the shade of a Willow tree...those were the days.
Ive a picture taken on the river Severn near Stourport in the 30s or 40s theres a slipper tailed speed boat going past but its powered by an aero prop driven by what i suspect is an Austin A7 car engine ... it looks well engineered as befits the Midlands but has an totally exposed propellor 😬🇬🇧😂🤣 no ones batting an eyelid.🤷🏻♂️

Last summer we hired a little boat from Dittisham for the day and had a cruise down to Dartmouth castle and back. It was ace 😎 Spent a few minutes circling in the middle of the channel by your marina trying to rescue one of the laminated instruction cards that flew overboard! Got it eventually!
With you driving down the road it reminded me of when I went to London. I was part of tour group. The lady tour guide, said, "In North America you drive on the right side of the road. Here in England we drive on the correct side!" LOL

The Dock is Greenway quay where you can get a ferry up from Dartmouth or Totnes to visit Greenway.
A few years ago I spent 4 months rebuilding various parts of the quay walling. A lovely idyllic spot all governed by tide times.

Loving all your videos, we used to have a project 32 out of Nayburn Marina near York in the 70's, Mum and Dad sold it after a trip to and back to the Norfolk Broads down the North Sea following another boat!!!...No sight of land going across the Wash!! Would love to be back at the helm!!

Well that’s what day boating is all about… potter up.. moor up .. eat drink sleep and potter back. Just need to get a 🚤 .😎✌🏻love to see a trip all the way up one sunny day. And that marina. You know you have arrived when you drive down to it. Nice 👌🏻
One little bit of advice for making docking easier, i had a boat very similar to yours and i always had a set of lines secured to the dock, that way i always had them handy when returning to the dock and were always the perfect length everytime, it enabled me to do all the docking by myself and it was quick and easy. (I also carried spare lines on the boat for when visiting other marinas or fuel docks). You should also get some “ Bumper Buddy” thats ties to the rope on the bumper and then clips onto any handrail, worked great and inexpensive.
Yes, we had that set up in our previous marina. Need to sort it out here.

The mouth of the river Dart just 10 minutes downstream is a bustling river town that makes for quite an entrance by boat. Both very different but equally spectacular!

Cracking little spot you've found yourselves there. When they finish the developing it you're not going to be wanting for much. Probably about two and half times as much as I pay in Bristol but you can see what you get for your money as it is,car parking,wider pontoons ( they seem wider than ours ). Almost took a yellow one out last year between lockdowns but they'd doubled the rate,couldn't blame them mind.Will do it next time we're there. Enjoy your new boat home look forward to seeing new adventures up the river.
I feel the need to hire a small yellow boat! Greenway is lovely, with super views down the Dart and is owned by the National trust. As always a lovely video.

You're right Nick the road down to the Higher Ferry is a nice drive. They've done a lot of work on that side already. And doing more with that hotel. Great place to berth your boat.

Despite the horrendous amount of upkeep, (painting/varnishing!), I am strangely drawn to this era of 'little ships'. They have a feeling of cosiness when settling in for the evening that modern boats struggle to replicate.

Thanks Nick! During Hurricane Matthew 🌀 (Cat. 2, 2016) the ONLY local marina that escaped damage was a floating dock marina (quay) like yours.

Was enjoying being by the water just yesterday, watching the boats and having a full English breakfast in the visitors centre, at Draycote Water in Warwickshire. almost a hundred miles from any coast, surely the most landlocked large body of water in the British Isles

great video. we actyally had a 1978 mod birchwood 25 ,here upp in northern norway in the citty of tromsø. we used it a lot ,it had a 130 hp volvo engine.

I think the boat at 7:56 is a crabbing pot boat. It’s usually just round the corner up river in the summer. There’s a guy who sits on the top of it all day with a beer. Looks like the best job in the world 😆

We very much enjoyed our time on the Dart when coming up the South Coast after arriving in Falmouth. Not quite the same weather as when on charter, though. 🏖 Congratulations to you both on the new 'home'.

Gosh Nick and Marianne Afloat in a Boat. I'm Green with envy, but not seasick. Love it. 👍 In a bit of news, I've found the boat I want to get, a Sailboat I can manage and live on (a bit of a shock I might add Sails, lovely Sails again ! ). Only problem right now, is build slots are booked solid until 2026 (I may have to bribe someone with lavabread to get their slot). Was really unsure about it, given problems with early ones, but am now converted to the Volvo Saildrives they come with. I'll update if I get a Construction slot. It'll be custom built, and you may want to take a look at it when it's delivered Nick. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🙂🏴
