Grew up on the Arkansas in Oklahoma downstream of kaw lake. Hunting ain’t what it used to be but it’s still good. Catching big blues and flats are a passion of me and the family. We use set cane poles mostly these days

Oh one tip. If using a store bought rope stringer DO NOT use the metal ring at the end. This has happened a few times to us. They will come apart and all the fish get off. I tie a loop in the end and not lost any since

I haven't done this in years . Used to go lake fishin at Elephant Butte lake in New Mexico. Set trout lines and caught many catfish, flathead,blue channel. The largest my family caught on a line was 25 lbs. Fed about 40 people for a couple of days.

Never fished the R_kansas river, but spent a lot of time on the Arkansaw. Down stream few hundred miles from you, where the cottonmouths are plentiful as well as the flatheads. Nice video 👍.

We ran lines in Kansas the last three weekends. Biggest was 30lbs. 17fish overall. Mostly flathead.

Good Evening Bobby, great one on the set lines! Yes, would like to see some rod and reel on the flat heads. I have caught big Mekong cat fish, 100lbs plus. They pull your arms off. I wish this was legal in idaho. Idaho fishing laws blow! One pole but you can get a 2nd pole permit, no long lining, no using live bait, and no using cast nets. Idaho fishing laws suck!

Funny, people never seem to utilize the river. More fish for us!
Guys I’ve been fishing for huge catfish for 40 years. Running nylon line through drilled holes in aluminum conduit alone is like begging for failure unless u wrap it or protect the line.
The bait is green sunfish

Watched a barge go down on the Arkansas river last year.
The bait fish that you're using are called Green Ear Sunfish (greenies) Bluegill and perch are completely different species of fish no matter where you're from
That fish was a greensunfish
That you used for bait
I was scrolling through to see if someone told bob the type of fish he was using for bait
You are correct, the lepomis cyanellus.
That and Bullhead heads are the best flat head

Another good bait is bullhead but I love using perch to
In current I hook the bluegills through the back of the eye socket there is a place where it goes through to the other eye with little effort and doesn't kill the fish. when you hook them this way they face into the current and live longer. Through the back in the slack water. Don't think you can't use a gill because it is to big, I have caught a 4 lb flat on a 1/2 pound bluegill. Rod and reel video would be great.
Sending Fred off to school has to be hard, and know you will miss him. Fred wants to please you and will will be happy that he will know what you want him to do when he comes back.
