  • We ran the river over the long weekend to catch some monster channel cats and a few nice flatheads on diddy poles, as we traditionally do on Memorial Day Weekend.
    This weekend was bigger than ever: we actually ran 2 boats and had footage from both boat's runs. This video is packed with action: we camped out, got caught in a storm while on the river, caught a MONSTER surprise fish, caught several nice flatheads and caught the biggest channel we've boated in years.
    Buckle in. You won't wanna miss this.

      We keep some too. We kinda just gauge how much we want to eat vs what might wind up getting freezer burnt

      @Reggie2000 Před 4 měsíci

      Freezer burnt? Freeze all of your fish fully submerged in water in baggies. Always. What ever you choose to keep that is.
      People who don't fish a lot don't realize how much fish you can accumulate quickly. Although I always have a deep line of folk who are only to happy to relieve me of it.

    Need to run trout lines across the river not long ways with the bank. Submerg the line about five or six foot deep in the middle of the river then tie it off to the other bank. You’ll be surprised the next morning. Big blues run in that fast middle water picking off anything they come to. But five or six foot deep with the line in the middle will be perfect.

    A tip for ya on those trot lines, make the Stagings or the Leader about 2 ft long and keep the fish in the Water , invest in a Good Dip Net , I use bank poles some a time or two a year it's a lotta fun , Never saw these pvc ones I always cut the Poles from a Reed Cane grove by my house ,but I may have to make a few of these along , good idea for sure , looked like a good weekend , Tight Lines To Ya 🦈

    • @DeeplyDrivenOutdoors
      @DeeplyDrivenOutdoors  Před 3 lety +1

      I'll have to make some adjustments on the trotline for sure. I started out with just a walmart trotline but have since remade all my drops.
      The PVC poles are nice. They're cheap, will hold a 50 pounder and last forever

      @@DeeplyDrivenOutdoors I was having some trouble with fish coming off until a friend who I learned many many tricks from showed me the way the longer staging lines worked out, the fish Stay In the water as your picking up the main line as you run it out once they come out the water they go nuts flouncing and that's when I would lose em,, you have to space them a little farther apart but the Benifits are well Worth it ,then I went and Took his Advise and invested in a dip net three times Bigger than the one I thought I needed lol 🤣🤣 that's exactly how he told me to look for one that was big enough lol 🤣🤣🤣 ,and many times since then I have been glad I bought it ,I've. Had that ole net probaly 35 years now ,I've replaced the net about four times and patched it several more times but it's Still dipping fish ,I even added a 10 ft extension to the handle outta schedule 40 1inch pvc pipe ,I can take it off if I need to ,I just drilled a hole thru the handle and the pipe for a bolt with a wingnut or a small pin ,I can pin more onto it as need be, I've made it 25ft long when we fish the coastal piers that's high above the water, I can reach em with it , ,that Area you were in was a good place from the Looks of things ,I like the bluffs ,that usually means Flatheads , Great show , keep it up ,I'm fixing to set some poles this afternoon we've had rain down here a few days so we got some water coming up in the Sloughs and swamp here (South Mississippi) it should be good for a few days or Fishin 🎣 bank Poles , anyway , Y'all stay safe and Lotsa Luck On Your Next Adventures

      We baitfish with ultralight tackle. Use a small circle hook, a pinch of crawler and put that below a light slip bobber and 1 split shot. It takes some searching but once you find a pond with lots of bullies, they bite like crazy.

  • @southernmafia9121
    @southernmafia9121 Před 4 lety

    If y’all don’t pull them up so fast they won’t freak out pull them up slow and they come up slow and won’t fight and you won’t lose fish as bad not saying y’all lost a lot of fish just a pointer but y’all might have a different theory

      Deeply Driven Outdoors oh yeah man I understand I wasn’t saying y’all was doing it wrong ain’t no right or wrong way really I’ve just found that pulling them up slower they don’t freak out and start twisting and pull that hook out and when they come up nice and slow they usually have there mouth open you can grab then in seconds

    • @DeeplyDrivenOutdoors
      @DeeplyDrivenOutdoors  Před 4 lety

      @@southernmafia9121 Definitely. The more experienced guys do that and lose very few fish. When I pull up a flatty, I'll often look to grab them in the mouth. When I pull up a channel, I'll often give a gentle lift first to feel him out.
