    Just a little discussion of what we can expect for the STI in the future. I know we have had a lot of discussions in the past about whether the STI should have been discontinued or not. Also we have discussed at great length the eligibility of the VB WRX in the current Subaru community. I know that sometimes the political side of the world affects the WRX and cars in general. In this video I look at some articles that have tried to speculate what the new STI will be.

    Great post! We all are wondering what Subaru is planning. The new WRX has captured positive attention more now than when it first arrived. With that said, even though the STI is an upgraded WRX, its just a different feel and mindset altogether. I think that most enthusiasts have been heartbroken and disappointed that Subaru hasn't made any effort to build one nor address one in the works. I think it's safe to say that if Subaru hasn't any plans to launch any sti in at least the next two to three years, like you mentioned, there are enough aftermarket parts out there that you can pretty much build your own. If you look around, there are many people already doing just that. Personally, I love the STI, and I think Subaru should build one, for this platform. But if they don't, I will still consider buying the 22 + model. Love your CZcams man. Peace!

    I own an 05 STI, and a 22 WRX limited. I will add my 2 cents to the pot. There will never be another STI like the early models, even the VA doesnt feel like an OG STI. With that being said, people need to either go get and older one, or simply adjust to the fact that EPA standards, and safety regulations, make it impossible for a smaller manufacture like FHI, to recreate that experience. If a new STI variant is released, be happy it exists at all! Hell be happy they are still making a WRX at this point, because I can tell you right now, the margin of profit on them is slim to none. So start being optimistic instead of pessimistic, because Subaru/FHI could dump the program all together.

    To an STI Fanboy, what makes a WRX STI is subjective.
    Looking at the trims over the years, the STI trim has always been slightly upgraded compared to the non-STI trims. The TS now offers some of these, except a power bump and better synchro transmission. The adaptive dampers (which are found in the GT & TS trims) are definitely something the new STI would’ve had if they made a VB version and obviously the upgraded brakes.

    I said this in a previous comment but Subaru could not meet the strict regulations set by the EPA last minute for the STI especially since the rumors pointed to the STI being closer to 350 HP so gas mileage would of been atrocious. That said I also noted that I personally believe that 20% stake Toyota is also whats preventing them from releasing an STI as I don't think its coincidence that the GR Corolla came out around the same time as the VB STI would have. Especially since the GR Corolla is a limited production vehicle and its safe to say that a VB STI would of competed with the GR Corolla and Supra and ate up some of their sales and Toyota would not of wanted that. I believe we will get an STI but it'll be some sort of hybrid come 2028 and it will be expensive for sure.

    As for the STI, the VIZIV concept needs to be it. Im on the fence regarding full electric. Not having a petrol power plant will hurt, no doubt, but given the state of hybrids and full electric vehicles these days, they would need to use a Toyota power plant to meet EPA regs on a 4 cylinder, or at least, that seems to be the case. Maybe add one to the Corolla GR motor, and dial it back on boost to meet emissions? Im betting the FA24 is barely meeting emission standards out of the factory, and thus the "killing" of the boxer.

    • @SteelyEyedMissileDan
      @SteelyEyedMissileDan Před měsícem

      @@HeavyMetalWRXFor $60k, Subaru would have to do a lot more to the VB WRX than just stick an STI drivetrain in it. It has to compete with the Toyota GR Corolla, and to a lesser extent the Honda Civic Type R and Hyundai Elantra N. Those cars all make more power than the WRX, they all have LSDs and manual gearboxes, and they all cost between $35k-$45k. For me to justify $60k on a VB STI, it would need at least 350hp while preserving the FA24's insanely responsive and enormous torque curve, plus the beefier STI 6-speed gearbox, DCCD, front & rear LSDs, Brembo brakes, the new tS adjustable active suspension, Recaro bucket seats that sit nice and low (I'm 6'6" and I want to feel like I'm sitting on the floor), it'd have to come with all of Subaru's STI Group N-homologated high-performance chassis parts and all of the optional STI-brand aesthetic bits already installed inside and out as standard, and it would need a non-plastic widebody kit, similar to those on Vermont SportsCar's VT23r rally car or the 2023 WRX by Prodrive. That would be worth $60k for me.

  • @danmac6185
    @danmac6185 Před měsícem

    What pisses me off about the lack of an STI is that they reused the WRX drivetrain anyway. They could have slapped in the sti Transmission and Diff, and given the 2.4, the minor adjustments needed to make 350 horsepower.

  • @Kopernicus67
    @Kopernicus67 Před měsícem +1

    If Subaru wants to go EV, then it should do it right rather than trying to take an EV and make it into something it is not. That would fail.
    An STi package is brakes, trick-AWD control and a beefed up transmission, to me.
    Here would be the perfect STi -
    - front/rear dynamically controlled motors on each axle. Make the controller in the car look like the VA version
    - braking like the Polestar 2 upgrade package; coupled with the motors
    - batteries give low center of gravity, the car will corner on a dime
    - keep the hood scoop for a cooling duct routed wherever needed
    If you watch YT videos of the Polestar 2 (I almost bought one) on the Nurburgring, it can keep up with GT3s and other really great cars.
    I'd also see no problem with making the regular WRX a simple hybrid. Electric motors go a long way to launches without taxing the transmission, something that would appeal to many of the street racers of WRXs. Gas mileage is also crap compared to Civic Si, Type R, Golf GTI and Golf R, a mild hybrid system would improve that.

    I’m probably on my own in this opinion, but I think the STI platform would work beautifully as a PHEV or Hybrid. I’m sure (with Toyota tech) they could engineer electrically driven boost/overdrive working in tandem with the FA24, electric enhanced AWD vectoring, limitless torque, all while extending range, and reducing fuel cost and emissions. Full EV, no ICE, just seems a bad idea for so many reasons, and will not excite the WRX community.

    Unless Subaru decides to go one fully traditional STi and another with supposed hybrid powerplant and calling that the STe, perhaps in similar relationship between the current TR to GT trims, may be the best case but when has Subaru ever given us the best case scenario...? Brace y'allselves... winter is coming?

      But that really is hoping too much. Subaru's timetable is closing in awfully fast with their core fanbase getting confused or restless. I don't think they have any time left to come up with something ingenious and still need to come up with something better than tS.
      Otherwise, these whole VB generation will forever be marked as the wasted time and effort, along with the hardcore fan base dropping, thinking that at least EVO had a better death than STi.
      Subaru already made a brain dead mistake of not offering STi on VB gen, and no amount of EV or hybrid sorcery is gonna fix it IMO.
      Given how long Toyota has fiddled with their system, subaru still hasn't figured out how to do their hybrid system on a mass scale in fact, Subaru is starting that just now with the Forester hybrid and etc.
      I sincerely blame CAFE rule for this, but... just maybe... with hybridization of their entire lineup, Subaru can free up that stupid ass CAFE rule to build STi on VB.
      That will allow Subaru to continue onto the next stage, buying them time for the next big introduction for the next gen STi or that STe bs that they are so proud of. I sincerely hope Subaru is paying attention.

    When I think of STI, one word comes to mind. Tuner. I don't want anything other than a combustible engine in a STI. What mods can be done to a hybrid or full EV STI? IMHO in the worlds transition of energy to electric EV, gone are the days of wrenching on cars. Robbing what has bin decades of generations teaching next gen from simple oil changes to full restorations. Is there a place for Hybrid and EV cars, absolutely.
    I enjoy watching car racing of all kinds. I just can't fathom watching full EV racing. What is it going to sound like in the stands or TV? Hearing nothing but wind noise and while listening commentators. divers have nothing but push a pedal and steer. What's a pit stop going to look like? Will it be watch the driver out of there car, eating a burger while talking to the media as they wait for the race car to charge for 20 minutes LOL Naaah not for me. I love hearing and smelling the engines as they scream bye, stressing every part to its limits. The in cabin view of the driver rowing through the gears.
    The driver engagement you get just by the sound as you can tell that your hard work of dialing in your STI has accomplished. What is the future of are car choices going to be, EV trim models that have all the same HP that can't be modded? And year in year out they all look the same like Teslas? That's exciting, wow look we all drive same thing.🙄 In my world A car is extension of your personality. Without being able to performance mod it or car company's making all of there trim models look identical. It'll be nothing more then a hunk of metal to me and wont care about "HP" ( and I use that term very loosely describing EV power) what it looks like or even taking care of it. A EV, hybrid will be nothing more then a A TO B necessity for me and I'll buy the cheapest minimal HP that I'll need. STI is a pinacil of gas engine and I can only hope there will be a place and need in the future for it 🤞
    Ahhhh, maybe I'm just old school LOL....Just my opinion though

    Subaru has begun to crack and is beginning to fold. They know that their 20% stake with Toyota SHOULD NOT and DOES NOT stop them from making the WRX STI on the WRX's VB gen platform. That 20% stake only pertains to the Solterra and BZ4X and the BRZ and GR86. It does not have anything to do with the WRX STI not being made because of the GR Corolla.
    The GR Corolla is 100% Toyota built. That should not have stopped nor prevented Subaru from giving their STI community the car they have wanted and asked for since the current gen WRX has been out.

    • @antoinelee-thomas9536
      @antoinelee-thomas9536 Před měsícem

      It has nothing to do with no engine being available for the STI because if that was the case, Subaru should have been updating and upgrading the EJ25 (EJ257) since it's been out in Japan and the US for the last 20-30 years. The engine upgrade should not have waited for 5hp for the STI Type RA, the mid-cycle refresh STI, and the S209's 31hp and 40lb-ft of tq and the EJ could stayed around.
      Since the EJ is retired, why not enhance and upgrade the FA24 engine .1L of displacement to a 2.5T engine and change all of the internals, upgrade the turbocharger and everything in between and the FA24 becomes an FA25 (FA258) 2.5T specifically and only for the WRX STI? They can easily get 325-330hp out of it and 315-320lb-ft of tq? It's not asking a lot, especially when a company like Chevrolet did the same thing for the C7 Corvette ZR1 when they heavily upgraded the C7 Corvette Z06's LT4 engine to become the LT5 engine for the ZR1.
      Factory upgrades to the FA24 can be done. I don't know why Subaru doesn't recall the STI Division team back to do this. There's unlimited room for the cars in the segment:
      (Hyundai) Elantra N
      (Toyota) GR Corolla
      (Volkswagen) MK8/MK8.5 Golf R
      (Honda) FL5 Civic Type R
      (Acura) DE5 Integra Type S
      (Subaru) VB WRX STI
      Subaru is really the dumb ones because how did they have a fully built production-ready car to go only to come out and throw a curveball at the world that you/they decided not to put it in the WRX lineup? 🤦🏽
