I've watched a lot of WRX review videos. I want one but don't have the money yet. The only thing I can do is watch the videos that show up on my feed. I appreciate the fact that your review is coming from the standpoint of the average person instead of big car enthusiasts who are reading from Subaru's specs list that I've heard a thousand times. My only nitpick is with some of the banter between the two of you that sometimes comes off as a little bit disrespectful. Just something to keep in mind as you're recording

I bought one of these a few months ago & love it. Would be nice to have a little more power, but this is easily accomplished with a tune

Jack.... you need to get BMWs to test so Megan would not confused the design between them! Still trying to see how this even remotely look like a BMW !! Keep up the great work you guys!

I, too, was shocked and concerned by that statement 😂

I know you guys are doing it in a playful manner, but gosh, it would drive me nuts to have both my wife and I constantly correct each other on random facts lol. Cool, honest review though 👍

In the interest of balanced reporting, will Megan review an auto version?

If we get our hands on one, for sure. However, if you watch the Subaru Ascent review (and we have the 2025 Subaru Forester currently), you'll find that she doesn't mind CVTs at all. She would likely enjoy the performance of the WRX with a CVT that simulates shifts, but for me... well, I couldn't do it in a performance vehicle even though I don't mind them all that much in family vehicles. People who rage about them are WAY over exaggerating the complaints.

New Subscriber from Perth, W.Australia here 😊 I have a 2020 BMW M340i xDrive at the moment..... but wanting to get back into a Manual JDM car (and something slower, as the BMW is FAST and I don't want to lose my licence LOL), so I'm thinking of changing to either a FL5 Type R, GR Corolla, GR Yaris or WRX/STi. What would you recommend out of those cars? (I have a wife and 9yo son, but we take the wife's Toyota Fortuner on outings, so it's mainly just my car to goto work and back) 😊 Cheers Don (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)

Welcome to the channel! I've only ever been to Sydney, but I'd love to get over to the west coast sometime. Australia is one of my favorite place I've ever been. Given the choice and assuming smooth-ish roads, I'd always take the Civic Type R. Megan doesn't love the boy racer wing, but she likes that it's a practical four door hatchback. Now if bad roads are an issue or you plan to do any sort of rally style fun, the WRX is pretty great. It's more comfortable than the Type R, almost as practical, and looks just as good/ridiculous. I think the GR Corolla is awesome, but I'm just not sure it's large enough for our tall family. Thanks for joining the channel!

In Georgia your viscous center and open rear diff and axels aren't used. Lets say you want to road trip with luggage and three people... GR Corolla and Golf R aren't up to that task. Elantra looks, blocked trunk and reliability are detractors. Bomb around in the snow or on dirt roads... the higher clearance is necessary. WRX base is amazing over speed bumps AND great on an on ramp AND knifes through traffic. Don't get the TR, get the base and upgrade the pads and fluid and maybe stainless steel braided brake lines... if you even care.. And for the love of god, try gunning it on around a corner. Remember, FA24 is likely MORE reliable than the FA 20 as it has less boost and a lower redline... we will see...

These are great points and something we try to mention as often as possible that reviews and experiences are geographically specific. This is why Subarus are so incredibly popular in more northern states. The versatility of the WRX can't be denied.

Would’ve been more appropriate to say over the gr corolla vs a civic type r in my opinion.

I think either one, but the most direct comparison in price and size is probably the Hyundai Elantra N. I think AWD vs FWD ends up being academic for most people who but these types of cars, and truth be told, they probably lack the skill level to notice a difference in performance driving (Type R is fastest anyway).

The TR stands for Track Ready not Tuner Ready

    • @jax1079

I guess you should tell Motor Trend that. And Subaru.

Both are great cars. But if you want bang for your buck and bang on all weather and terrain then you know nothing comes close to WRX.
