It’s been top tier since the beginning. But it was the Adventure era that kicked it up a notch with crush 40. But Frontiers took it to another level.

The song is Sonic's perspective towards Tails, giving him encouragement over his past worries and cowardice to move beyond Sonic's shadow. Maybe Tails will find his flame in the end
there are multiple ways to interpret these songs. I've never realized that one until I saw your comment.
@@lks19 It's really nice when you look at the lyrics with that thought process in mind. Give the lyrics a read and think about Sonic talking to Tails with the harsher lyrics being directed towards the boss: "You know I'll turn you into rust, grind you right down to dust, you thought you were the best; well, you haven't met us" and when he finally defeats the boss "Now here we go, it's the end of the show. Hear them, they're calling your name. Cause in the end it's you and your friends: you'll find your flame"
