The reason is that Switzerland is a functional, neutral state. They could do all the things they do in America as well. It isn't Swiss law that primarily governs CZcams's copyright mechanism. Look to Washington DC and Brussels for that.

@@d4n4nable Brussels and Washington DC don't govern youtube, advertisers do. The reason youtube is the shithole it is today is because it got threatened with lawsuits by copyright owners, advertisers, and parents once it started to become more mainstream. People suing and whining/threatening to boycott brands is why youtube became shit.

It was almost impossible to watch any Oly weightlifting this year and it’s the only real time that the sport has an opportunity to show it’s amazing athletes - everything on TV this year was also highlights based whereas we used to be able to sit down and watch the sessions in full. I have no idea why they would want to dilute the coverage unless it’s for personal gain/financial reasons. Alternatively it takes a massive amount of incompetence to mess up a product that is naturally already amazing.

In 2012 my wife and I were awarded a contract to officially translate Olympic related news from English to French for press releases and the like. We would be sent transcripts to our home in France at all hours of the day and potentially night and we would have a very short window of time to send it back. The rates of pay were very low but it was a great opportunity to be involved. Anyway we mentioned it to our local town newspaper and they printed a story about the fact that the internet allowed a couple to play a small part in the Olympics despite being in rural France. Long story short the sh*t hit the fan, we were removed from the job before even starting and told we were lucky not to be sued. It turns out you can't tell anyone in the public domain you work for the Olympics, you can't use the logo anywhere, can't list the Olympics as a client etc. Why is that? We were told in no uncertain terms that big companies pay big money to be associated with the Olympics and so nobody who hadn't paid can be allowed to make mention of any connection.

I still watch the remarkable story of Uganda athlete John Akii Bua from time to time, but there are so many more. To deny the aspiring public access to the triumphs and tragedies is abhorrent.

I've been done with the Olympics for the last several events. Which is sad because I used to live in Vancouver and the 2010 Olympics where an amazing experience. Sadly, politics and greed has tainted my view of this even and for that reason I spent exactly zero time watching the most recent summer games. I now live in Calgary, where myself and the rest of the City voted to decline the invitation to bid on the next winter games - the IOC was practically begging the city to bid but the tax payers were not having any of it!
