Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic power metal band, formed in 1996 in the town of Kitee, in eastern Finland. Nightwish is considered one of the bands responsible for the development and rise in popularity of symphonic metal at the end of the 1990s, as well as the creation of the subgenre symphonic power metal. Although the band has been prominent in their home country since the release of their first single, "The Carpenter" (1997) and debut album Angels Fall First, they did not achieve worldwide fame until the release of the albums Oceanborn and Wishmaster, which were released in 1998 and 2000 respectively.

Эта версия живее и в плане музыки,и в плане вокала,на мой взгляд)Флор как-то бездушно и монотонно поет без эмоций,как по мне...А Аннет даже с больным горлом(на этом концерте явные проблемы с голосом у нее,охрипшая бедняжка) лучше справилась с задачей

De gustibus non est disputandum - that's what old wisdom says... Back then Tarja had much more like opera voice here it goes nice but more like within temptation style. I don't say which one is better but I really miss the first Nightwish I have heard back in 2000's.

To be honest, this is very terrible ..... but i feel with her, somewhere on net i read she was attacked by murder messages or something like that ..... maybe she was depressed, + the pregnancy, i liked her, but maybe its better she gone solo, she cant hit those notes in any way , and nightwish was always masterpiece, she just cant do it
This song was one of the only old era songs she did better than Tarja actually. The Tarja version always made me cringe, but Anette actually made it much better. Yes, we all know she couldn't sing the old era songs very well, but Nightwish had no choice on the Dark Passion Play tour other than play some of them.
Anette did her best, but the old era songs were written SPECIFICALLY for Tarja. Same as DPP and Imaginaerum was written SPECIFICALLY for Anette. Some people might argue that much of DPP was already made by the time Anette came into the band, which is true. But the songs were adjusted and recorded for Anette. This is how Tuomas does it. She writes for a SPECIFIC singer, which DPP and Imaginaerum was written for Anette.
Now, ever since Floor Jansen came into the band, there has been an endless attack on Anette, because Floor is a quadrillion times better than she was. This is wrong. If Anette was this bad, why was she in the band for 5 years? Surely she did SOMETHING right. What fans always wanted for Nightwish after Tarja's exit was another soprano, so that the old songs could remain. They never got that when Nightwish chose Anette, which made sense at the time. Tuomas made it crystal clear that another soprano was not in the cards. The band was happy with Anette, and so should the fans.
I think somewhere along the road from the recording of Imaginaerum and until her sacking, Tuomas wanted his "old" thing back, with a soprano and all. And firing her because she got sick and pregnant really is not very 2015, so its clear that it wasn't really the reason. I think they wanted to go back to their roots, and Anette stood in the way of that in many respects, especially since she was not a soprano.
Even if Floor is a better singer on both the old era and songs recorded by Anette, one should never diminish the impact and popularity that Anette brought to the band as a whole. They became more mainstream, sold millions more records, and became much richer than they ever were before. Also, she is still friends with Empuu, but then again, so is Tarja. Guess they both like the short blond guys.. lol.
I read, and still do, so many negative comments about Anette and her performances and time in the band. Just give it up already. She is also in history, not a present singer with them.
And finally, her solo efforts turns out to really be good, as is her latest collaboration project. You guys should check it out.

The change in Nightwish through Anette has made many fans wonder about the band but Tuomas ensures that the opera stuff were long gone even before that.
"When the original idea of Nightwish was to make nice campfire-music, one could say that the idea already changed 10 years ago. We also dropped the operavocals before Century Child-album. People are complaining now that we have left out the opera vocals but in my opinion, we left them already 5 years ago."
Tuomas also thinks that a band should never be a prisoner for any specific format.
"This was the music that everyone in the band wanted and one must follow the heart. Otherwise you start selling out. Nightwish is not a style or genre. It is a vision of 5 musicians and their view how to make music. Selfish? You bet. True? Damn straight!"
Retrospectively, considering the fact that she had no lyrical singing capabilities, do you still think Anette was the right choice for Nightwish at the time?
Yes, I do. I’ve said this many times. When I listen to Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum, I don’t think there is another person who could have sung those songs better than her. I really, honestly think so, and the rest of the band does, as well. That was not the issue.(Interview when Annette had left and Floor was singer).
“What was the nadir of the first tour with Anette?”
“When Anette’s voice went away. But there were other issues, difficulty of logistics and problems with some members of the staff. It was truly a long and exhausting tour. I rick saying that we quite pushed it too far. We will not go on such a gigantic tour like this with the new album. It has no point to nearly kill ourselves.”
Tuomas Holopainen: We took a formal vote, but it was unanimous that she would be the one. It was a matter of heart. We felt she would be the right one, and everybody agreed.
About Heavy Metal: Were you looking for someone with a different vocal style than Tarja, or is that just how it turned out?
Tuomas Holopainen: We absolutely wanted to have something different. That was our only criteria. We didn't build a profile of what the new singer should sound like, what she should look like, or where she should be from. We just trusted the right one would be out there. The only thing we knew for sure was we did not want another classically trained operatic singer in the band. We thought it was time to move on and not find a copycat. The hard task was to find someone who had the same power and passion and emotion in her voice, but still sounded different. I personally think we hit the jackpot with Anette because her voice is really strong, but she can also do some wonderful interpretations. She has a lot of variety in her voice. She has a storyteller's voice and doesn't sound like Tarja at all.

Doesn’t change the fact that NW music is best suited for powerful vocalist like Tarja or Floor. Secondly, what makes you claim that she sings this song better than Tarja? Other than your own personal shitty tastes? Nobody ever thought that Tarja version was cringy cos it just simply is the original one, and its an incredible chorus made better because of her voice. Plus as much as Anette could sing good, on this live version she was clearly exhausted . It doesn’t even sound powerful at all.

Why do I find Tarja''s version cringy? Because it is. Most people can't understand shit about what she is singing, and even Tuomas agreed that it was too "operatic" for most, hence why it is mostly left out in the later tours with Tarja and also with Floor (even though Floor tries to go back to it). Guess you didn't get the point that Tuomas wanted the opera gone from their music, because in reality, that was never something that their music was all about.
Anette was never a "powerful" singer like Tarja or Floor. That isn't her strength as a singer at all. Why would you expect it to be? And she is not exhausted in this show. It was at the beginning of their tour, so no, she wasn't. But as the tour went on, her singing on this song became much better than here as well (see the Saltzburg show for reference, as well as Wacken).
What voice their music is best suited for is not up to either me or you. Its up to the ones that make the music, which is Nightwish. Clearly they wanted her voice in their music, so your shitty tastes means nothing. Also, not forget the fact most people actually liked Anette a whole lot better than Tarja and even Floor. For the die hards, sure, Floor is better. But if album sales are any indication, clearly they did better with Anette and the last tour with Tarja than they ever did with Floor. But to each their own.
I liked Floor in After Forever, which was in her comfort zone. Not so much a fan of her ReVamp work, but that is another story. As for her singing the old era songs, its pretty clear she basically just performs them and nothing more, with the exception of GLS, which is one of her favorite songs from the Tarja era, even though her screaming at the end really just destroys it (its not supposed to be like that at all).
In the end, its all down to preferences. You don't like Anette, then you don't. No need to be a troll about it.

She is so emotional in her performance In that particular she is better than Tarja Too. I like Floor as a singer but she tries to sung perfect and missed all the other.She moves rarely in the stage,her movements are only with her hands and headbanging. I love and Tarja's live too. She is ethereal.
