One of my favorite videos from you guys. This was me in my shop rebuilding my 64 Impala for the third time. It was in the garage then an old chicken house now it’s the daily driver once again. All thanks to this dude “me “ and some wrenches…and a hammer god knows I’ve have got nowhere with out that hammer.

My mom had one of these when I was born, brought me home from the hospital in it. Hers was a hatchback with the Olds 350 under the hood, decently quick car for the smog era. I wish she still had it.

I had a 73 Olds omega that I had worked on for years. I made the stupid mistake of trading it for another car. Guy wrecked it less than a week later. I miss that car.

My Uncle did something similar to that. He required it after the first guy that wrecked it, but walked away after from it after the second guy wrecked it. It was a beautiful 75 HD Trans Am. Still remember picking it up after the screaming chicken was put on over the new paint. The ultimate 80's rod.

Great video! Amazing how brutally bad and irresponsible some ‘builders’ can be. Glad you were able to get the Omega back in the road.

Great video. Love these revive videos. Take a good looking lemon and make it a good looking and running Omega. Back in the day the Omega was the one the smart guys bought because it was a 'cheaper" Omega with all the fancy Olds appointments. Guys would not expect a quick Omega!! Sounds really nice. Look forward to the next one. Be safe and stay well.

I can verify a 350 will bolt right in where a 250 was. Swapped mine out in a 74 Nova a long time ago.

I can verify this statement as TRUE. The Nova, Omega and Ventura had the same designs. The mounts for a 250/6 do not need to be changed for swapping any small block GM V8. 1973-80, including Skylark 75-80, all had the same undercarriage and mounts. The bodies had cosmetic differences, otherwise they used the same platform.

I think the best one we ever came across was a Studebaker Hawk w/ a 68 Hemi mounted to a 700R with a ford 9" rear 😳🤦🤣

Helps to know welding. It was a whole lot of detail work you done on the transmission bracket. Welding is a good skill. Something I'd like to know more about.

  • @neolithicnobody8184
    @neolithicnobody8184 Před rokem +1

My very first car was a 1974 Nova I6 single barrel 3-on-tree. Swapped the I6 with a 350 from a 78 Z28. It even bolted right to the transmission. Swapped the same 350 into a 77 Skylark. No mount changes needed at all. That same 350 was then put into a customized Vegamino 4x4 and was the only time I had to change any mounts and that was only due to a 4 cylinder extraction, not a 6 or 8. I'm impressed with the overall condition of this Project car. Must be from out West because most of those are cancerous with rust here in the East. Garage kept would be a better guess, though. 73 and 74 were the only 2 years this style was used, biggest tell-all is the back bumper(tag above, not below) and still be more similar to the 68-72(tag below) body curves. 75-80 were more square, less curvy. Biggest downfall, in my own opinion, is the weak Unibody/framing design. Definitely reinforce the shoddy welding you pointed out and it would last even longer if you went ahead and replace the bushings in that framing. The slightest dry rot could lead to disastrous results. It's what's holding everything together!! I should know, I've twisted quite a few in my time. It's no fun when you go one direction and the whole front end goes in another, especially if you have speed or momentum built up.

    I am enjoying your restoration immensely!❤ ❤
    I own a '73 omega coupe with a rocket 350 V8 and auto transmission.
Your build might be struggling mostly because your usimg a chevy motor and transmission.
Though, you are showing us all how to switch over to a chevy powertrain which in itself ( given today's lack of olds parts at local stores ) is indeed useful knowledge.
Question: I don't have any documentation on my 14 inch factory wheels.
Your 1974 has the same wheels as mine. I'm about to buy aftermaket wheels in either 14 or 15 inch.
What's the correct bolt pattern, hub size, and backspace?
I currently can not messure mine.
    Long embaresing story.
And the internet is full of broken bits of information that I can not yet verify.

I helped a buddy build a budget 65 Studebaker, we got a cheap "Rebuilt 350" with a cheap "Rebuilt Th350", the 350 was a 305 bored .040 and the th350 was a th350 with lockup converter... we put a cam in that 305, and was quite a fun little 4 door.
Also, did they clearance the oil filter to make those bashed in headers fit?😅

Um yeah... I bought an abandoned project ('63 Fairlane). I still haven't figured out why they put a disc brake kit on the front, but didn't hook up the lines. The rear drums hadn't been touched in 40 years & the brake lines were broken in several places, but those [were] hooked up to a brand new proportioning valve & master cylinder, 🤷. People do the darndest things!
Edit: LOL! Mine had that exact 12S fuel pump too. It was swinging from a tank strap, by a zip tie.

The Olds Omega: putting the “O” in Nova since 1973!
Really disappointed that Oldsmobile never gave the Omega a real chance for “performance” during the oil crisis seeing that the only options for a V8 were between a smog choked 350 (Olds or Chevy) and the 260

@@DudesWithWrenches I’m more of the opinion that the 403 would’ve made for a killer sleeper engine in these cars. Granted, any Oldsmobile engine is gonna cost a real pretty penny to have machined, but the 403 can put out some half decent numbers when properly built (300hp+ at 9:1 with 350 Olds heads)
