Coleman mini bike not starting/only running with choke? here's something to check.

- Today we have a Coleman CT200U-EX mini bike that does not want to start up at all. Pulled the carburetor off and gave it a nice cleaning, put it all back together and it fired right up! hopefully if your bike isn't starting up or only running with the choke this works for you. So guys, update on the coleman mini bike, me and my friend both owned one and removed the governor out of both. A couple months with riding it like that they both seemed to stop working. I believe the higher rpms caused the engine to lose compression which caused it to stop running right. I've heard some people say it's better to buy the predator engine because it can handle the higher rpms better.
What some people say is just speculation. If you abuse any engine it's going to break or wear out much sooner than it should. The Predator isn't some magical all powerful unbreakable engine that some make it out to be.
I will never get a Predator 212. There's just too many better options out there including the new Pred 224.
Going to upgrade mine and pulling the governor is one thing I plan on doing what you can do to counter the high RPMs is to put stiffer valve springs in it. Could have burnt up the motor maybe another issue or your piston and your valves may have been playing a little bit of patty cake. Either way these motors are cheap and a dime a dozen and there are parts a plenty so I'm going to do all kinds of stuff to mine and see what I can get out of it. Also if you want to get a little bit more speed out of it I heard the belt drive is a good replacement for the clutch. So many options lol
And have you checked the spark plug?
yeah I think it burns the valves when you run too high RPM on them. personally I dont care to go faster than the 20 mph they do stock because they have no suspension and are not very stable at higher speeds , if I want to go fast I would just get a real dirt bike, these little bikes are fun for around campsites and putting around in the neighborhood.
I know It might not seem like it’s doing a lot when you’re taking it apart and cleaning it but i assure you it’s doing more than you think I just did the same exact thing to mine and it started right up on the first pull

this world like a charm for me! I was sure it was going to need more than just this because it was running so badly but it was just a clogged jet in the carburetor. using compressed air along with carb cleaner and just spending 10 minutes spraying and blowing will result in a perfect running machine again. and if not just buy another carb they are cheap.
Yea, the carbs they have on Amazon are crazy cheap! I'm an impatient person, tho so when I want to ride it, I want to ride it right then. I'm glad I was able to help!
I’m currently having an issue with mine. Yesterday wouldn’t run without the choke. Cleaned the carb today wouldn’t go at all with the choke on and kept dying when I turn it off. Have tried everything.
Hey man, I would make sure you're getting enough fuel and spark. To troubleshoot and see if you are getting spark, pull of the air filter and spray carb cleaner down into the engine. Leave the choke off and try to crank it over. If it starts up its still a fuel problem. Keep trouble shooting and let me know what you get.

Hey man I removed my governor 3 days ago and the bike would start but every time I gave it throttle it died. I gave it some engine starter and it worked but now the bike doesn’t even idle and the new Coleman carbs don’t have an idle screw. I’ve looked everywhere and I have no clue what the problem could be.
Removing the governor on those is tricky. You need to put a spring to make sure it drops back to idle. I have a video on doing the governor.
Did you clean the pins too
Please help,purched this bike beginning of 2022 for grandson he rode it about 5 times ,everything was fine then this summer when he starts it it wants to take off seems to be throttled up and also when you release throttle its still idleing high not allowing brakes to stop well.
Sounds like a bad clutch. Try replacing it and see if it changes. Hope this helps

I had the same problem. Found the carburetor loose. Went to tighten up the bolts a little and found that the boats were stripped out now I'm having trouble finding the studs. Anyone know where I can order them?

Hey I recently purchased one and it’ll only run if the throttle is on. If I don’t give any throttle it’ll shut off. Also it will only idle in choke. Do you know what I should check? Thanks in advance.

@@carterpenna5486 I bought a $20 carburetor off Amazon and it fixed the problem. Took 5 mins to take off old and put the new one on. Hope you’ll figure it out soon.
Theres a plastic black screw that you should screw in a little more that way it gives it just enough gas to stay and not take off on you.

Any ideas for mine? Doesn’t start, put new oil, gas, and carb in it. Oil leaks through exhaust pipe.
if you have oil leaking thru your exaust pipe then it may be that it sat on its side by accident , if you lay these on their sides and leave them that way oil runs into the combustion chamber and then they will not run, I had it happen before where it was so full of oil in the cylinder I couldn't even pull the pull cord and turn the engine over. best thing to do for this is take the spark plug out and use a shop vac to suck the oil out of there, once you can get it started it will smoke real bad for a while as it burns off the oil that go in where it shouldn't have.
if it is not from laying it on its side and you have oil coming out your exhaust then the other thing that could be wrong is a cracked engine block or bad seals, if that is the case you may as well just get a new engine for it, they are not very expensive and the old one can be used still for parts.
Mine is having an issue where it idols just fine but when I throttle it it dies almost immediately. Sometimes when I throttle, it bogs down like it’s trying to get going but eventually just dies. Any advice?

@@KD-ts6xr I took mine apart this morning and it seems the problem was the pilot jet was gunked up. Cleaned it and put new fuel in it and so far runs great.
I would clean the carb and check the spark plug.
@@Joutlaw29same my engine smokes when runing and doesn’t let me throttle it at all just revs but the jet was shredded some how and fucked the carb up idk could be the problem better carb?!
Why does my bike drives off when I started?
When I start mine it makes a weird noise and when I crank the gas it doesn’t do anything but make more noise and goes nowhere
I would check to see if your clutch is attached. Sounds like it's something with the drive system.

Mine starts but it’s turns off automatically and I can go with my choke on but once I stop pulling the throttle it turns off, I cleaned my carb and everything, but it’s still not running, can you help?
Hey man, I would double check the carb. Those things have small jets in it that can get dirt or anything like that stuck in it and that'll be enough to cause it to run rough. I would also check the spark plug to see if its loose which would cause it to not have enough compression also check if the plug is creating a good spark. If none of that works check the fuel lines and see if its clogged.
Sounds like you need to turn your idle screw in a bit to the right.

Hey I really need help with mine I have a mini bike and it only runs with the choke on n when I take it off it turns off I got a brand new carb and I cleaned it n I got a new spark plug but still won’t stay running

I’m having a random Throddle issue on my ct200u engine is brand new the Throddle just worked perfect a couple days ago it’ll twist but will get stuck a little and not return great everything is hooked up correctly
Those springs that they have for the return aren't very well made. I would take a look at that and maybe see if you need to clean it off or replace it.
They won’t start if you have the air filter off… that happened to me, I put it back on and it fired right up
Mine keep dying on iddle and it wont start again
I bought mine off Amazon back in April it started but never ran, today is the 1st time I’ve rode it since I had but it keeeps stopping after Rodin for like 2 blocks. I have no idea what to do
Sounds like you have a fuel issue, I would check the fuel lines and the float in the carburetor. Also check the jets.

@@thelaymanlife8591 there Is a small hole on the gas cap the rubber under the cap was not put on rite so it was getting air so it kept shutting off I adjusted the rubber under the cap been running good for 3 months now

Any ideas for mine? Starts with choke, take off choke and stays on, when I try to run, bugs out and hard to restart. Gas is fresh, even changed the carb. Anything will help.

Make sure it's got good spark. And check and make sure you've got good gas flow going to the carb

@@MrManVR179 ask an employee or go to Walmart and ask for some spark plugs and ask them wich one is for the bike or go to an store for stuff like that and ask them and show them the previous spark plug that came with it and if they don’t have it search up the model online and order it

3:26 when you said that you blew the jets out did you take them out or did you leave them in and air compress it
If you really wanna clean it you can pull them out and clean them using a small flat head. I normally just blow some air into the carb depending on how bad it is.

Mine runs only when applying the throttle but if i dont it dies, i smell lots of fuel so its running rich but cant keep running on idle. Are these symptoms of dirty carb?

I have a problem rn..it was running just fine then I gave it a wash with the hose and washed every part of the bike..and now it just won’t start..
I would check to see if you got water in the gas tank, it doesn't seal very well. I would drain the gas the pull the carb and clean it.
It’s your spark plug wire. I just changed mine.
Ey dude I’m kinda worried got the ct200u predator 212 it’s a pretty new motor I maintain it well but have made some dumb mistakes and hope no damage was done like I had it on its side for a few minutes then when I started it tons of smoke came out of my straight pipe exhaust and was leaking something it was kinda weird also had a bit too much oil in the bike a couple times but now it’s good bike seems to be running good still
Thats normal just dont keep it on its side too much because the oil will leak out the carb and that white smoke is the oil getting burnt up
Good time to check your valve lash. They work loose.
Will do! We had recently tightened them back down because I had accidentally knocked the cam out when we were removing the governor. Wont hurt to check em again.

@@Partnerthedog ik this is a while later but you can get them at most auto parts stores. I got a set from autozone, make sure the feeler guages are small enough though, some are only hundredths of an inch and you'll need thousandths for valve lash

I would check to see if the chain is attached. Make sure all the gears are hooked up correctly and nothing it freely spinning.
What do u recommend doing to make my ct200u go at least 35-40 mph with the jack shaft ?
I'd probably rip the governor off or put a smaller sprocket on the rear shaft

@@alexdawgk6142 I took off the air filter then you will see this spring under the gas can, what I did was take out the part where the screw connects on the left and that fixed the idea issue not the other

Have you sprayed carb cleaner in it? Do that and see if it starts up, if it does you either, 1- have a clogged fuel line, 2- didnt clean the carb good enough.

I’m struggling to find the adjustments for the carb screws with a new spark plug in it just tryna to run for a little on choke then cut off and even with gas flip it wit turn off instantly
@@thegameheadcompany9234 Whats happens when you give it full throttle and then shut the choke off? It still sounds like a fuel delivery problem. I would disconnect the fuel hose and see if the gas pours out freely. Also if the bike has been left outside the gas caps dont seal and water can get into the tank causing your bike to run rough.
@@thelaymanlife8591 it’ll cut off regardless I switched the line and it has gas come out it no problem it was clogged at first but clean the gas tank and switched the gas out

Thanks for the info! I'll have a look at it and see what I can do. We took off the governor on this bike so it goes up to 30mph, and have been looking at some performance carbs we can slap on it.

@@letsgogo8473 Honestly it was that hard. The hardest part was removing the c clip that held the governor on the inside, I'd watch cars and cameras, they've got a video on how to do it as well as red beards garage.
