I feel it’s because RWBY fits better as a more light-hearted and less serious series, and the recent volumes are going down the darker more serious tone. Chibi is naturally on the lighter side, and without the need for a darker story it lets the characters have a little more time and fun. I personally think the characters work better in this setting than the main show.

And my favorite scenes are Cinder who?, The part where she drops the rose on Ozpin, Evil Class, The one where she tells her plans to a bunch of grim and 2 of the Beowolves are talking in the background, driving Jaune and Ren, Evil Interview, driving Beowolves, the one where she burns Cinder Puppet, Red button, Winter maiden prank and villain dreams. Also got to say she's definitely is the best villain to ever say Nefarious as a running joke.

At least her machinations throughout Volumes 1 to 3, culminating in the Fall of Beacon, is still to this day the greatest achievement of any RWBY Villain. Regardless, the more Cinder fails this early on, the more likely it becomes that she succeeds during later, more significant points in the story. It'll be fun to watch her make her move.
