@@kaylapuppyss I honestly don't think so, Neo vs Cinder without Maiden powers would be a normal win for Neo, and Maidenless Raven vs Maidenless Cinder would also be an easy fight for Raven I think Season 4 Raven's probably the BEST close combat Huntress in existence before and after maiden powers, so it's the highest bar around. Season 2 Neo vs Raven I think Neo just never prepared for it and didn't plan to get her hands dirty fighting her, Raven would most likely win, but the closest person to beating Raven without Maiden powers in a 1v1 is indeed Neo. I'm not sure if people have noticed that Raven's a classic case of someone with avoidant attachment issues. When you look at those moments of vulnerability, you see a broken person who is completely distrusting of others, someone who wants to love but is hurt to the core and can't. That is not to say that she is the victim here, as she has done many terrible things along with her tribe. But after V9, I'm thinking that something DID happen with Summer, something so irreversible that it changed her for the worse just as much as it changed Qrow. She's revealed herself to be a person lacking empathy in wanting to seem tough, that the strong live and the weak die, and all that. We eventually see that this is a facade. In fact, when she cares about people she cares about them so much that it hurts her too much to hold on, because she's afraid it'll just be taken away. She couldn't just be honest about Salem, because she knew that they'd fight against her no matter what she said. I wouldn't be surprised if Raven let that life-changing injury happen to Yang in order to try to discourage her from being a huntress-- from being scouted by Ozpin and eventually led to fight against Salem. And trying to get Yang to join her tribe with that same end. And finally, Raven's semblance. Portals that lead to people she cares most for. How appropriate for someone who is too afraid/runs away and cannot bring herself to forget about her loved ones. Eventually she always returns.
You have a point in all this. She does seem to have Avoidant Attachment Issues. The one thing I disagree with you is that Raven let Yang lose her arm. Raven is a b***h, I think we can all agree on that, but I don’t think she would go that far to dissuade Yang. Though I certainly agree that Raven would try to convince Yang to stay with the tribe (as seen in her first meeting with her). When Volume 10 comes out, I am SO interested in what Raven has to say about her and Summer’s mission. I got my on theories on what happened, but I guess we’ll see.
@@davidkoudelka10 I'd wager that if she was aware of Yang's fight if anything stopped her it was fear of Adam. Regardless of how he lost in the end, no longer at his best and slipping because he couldn't handle his emotions, at his best he was dangerous enough that I think she'd hesitate. But it might be more likely that she stopped herself from watching Yang after that single save to make herself keep that promise of Yang only "getting one save." I'd guess that her not being aware because of something like that is more likely.
@@NioGetsume Oh by all means, Adam was a FEARSOME fighter, but one that Raven may have been able to defeat (being a maiden and all, albeit leaving with a few wounds maybe) and would have regarded with contempt. She definitely knew Yang lost her arm after the Fall of Beacon (as evident by her meeting with Qrow), but likely only learned after the incident occurred.
Legit Raven is the worst parent ever. The only parent who is just as bad is Marcus Black, who decided that beating the shit outta his son for, presumably, close to 2 decades. Arguably thou, these two horrible parents taught their kids to stand up for themselves, Yang when she stood up to her mother, and Mercury when he killed his father
Raven saving Yang from Neo just shows she still somewhat cares for her. Raven is still my favorite character. Just hope she comes to help everyone in Volume 8.
She's a better mother than most parents who leave their children, that's for damn sure. Most of them just end up leaving their kids and never bother to check in at all. Raven has literally been in Yang's life more than most people are willing to give her credit for. Not to mention that instead of running like everyone else claims she does, Raven had actively became the reason for Yang going down the path of a huntress and the reason she's gotten as strong as she has. Sure, some kids force themselves to become stronger in those cases, but it was literally what drove Yang day in and day out and that has ultimately shown in this video. As a wise bird once said, "That's real Mom of the Year material, Sis."
Probably old realization people have already had ages ago during volume 3, but when Qrow shows the old team STRQ photo to Yang (around 3:28) he subtly moves his thumb to cover Raven’s face. Like he knows Yang and Raven’s relationship is complicated and is almost trying to spare her feelings or distract her from her mom
Qrow: “but you’re a tough egg” The double meaning/pun of this is great since Raven can literally turn into a Raven and Yang is her daughter and birds lay eggs! Puns run in the family it seems
I’m of the belief that Raven will get killed and/or sacrifice herself trying to protect Yang (something Yang will unfortunately have to witness) and Yang will inherit the powers from her mother. Yang is like her mother in many ways. Although I’m still trying to figure out why she never told ANYBODY that her mom is a maiden. Like I’m pretty sure she didn’t even tell Blake so I’m curious to see if and how that’s going to play out.
For me, that's the only thing missing. And, I like that discussion, too. Shows how Raven leaving Yang really affected. Still, love yer videos, especially with Blake & Yang, which is the longest surprisingly. :)

I don't know why but I really love Raven because I am so invested in her. I really love Yang and Raven and I really hope we will get at a point where the two maybe can start over. I also have the theory that if we get a STRQ flashback episode that then we will see a Raven that is a lot more like Yang and a Qrow who's so much more like current Raven. I really hope that we will get a lot more Raven Yang interactions in the future :(
I'm right there with you. I'm writing a fanfiction about Raven during her time at Beacon. I really hope one day they'll show us a flashback of team STRQ. I also have a theory that the reason Qrow showed up so quickly to save Yang and Ruby was because of Raven.

I really think a STRQ flashback would answer a lot of questions. Did Raven really leave Team Strq without a word or did she have knowledge about Salem that didn’t coincide with what Ozpin said and the rest of Strq didn’t want to believe it? Idk why but I feel like Tai is hiding something...

Raven had one of the best introductions of all the character. Dramatic music, scared off Neo without actually making a move, daunting presence. We knew from first sight that she's a certified badass. I hope she shows up again and ties up some loose strings with Yang. Not a full reconciliation, perhaps. That might be too idealistic lol... Also hoping for more interactions between the Branwen siblings. 🙏
I really love Raven tbh, I thinks she is a complex character and I hope we see more of her. I especially hope we find out what she knows abt Ozpin, and *how* she knows it. The “I used to trust him, too” line really makes me think there’s more to their story than we have seen.
Raven is the perfect example of the people who has a need to try and convince you that they're not scared yet... she's nothing but a scared little girl inside, all that armour and powers are to set fear in people before they get to know the real her, maybe thats why she ran away, because she was scared to show her true self
Part of me likes to think Yang calls Raven mom for two reasons. -To never let Raven forget that no matter how much she runs, she can’t escape the fact that she is such to Yang. -To keep herself from ever slipping up and becoming just like her.
I relate to Yang in many ways. The first being that I’ve never met my real father, I had stepdads that took up the mantle of fatherhood. But, still to this day, I’m determined to find my biological father-wherever he is-and find answers about the other side of my family tree. Years of searching goes by, and then when I finally reached adulthood, I get a strange text from a person who’s name I’ve never heard of. Turns out, my mom knew exactly who she was. Someone who was actually searching for me for years: my long lost cousin from my father’s side. I had many questions, some that brought me closer to understand the other half of myself. Although this doesn’t bring me closer to my real father, I’m proud to reconnect with my cousin. Strangely enough, my long lost cousin knew my other cousins from my mother side of the family. A small world we live in, indeed.

Yo dawg, I don't know if you watched the same v5 I did, but Raven was very accommodating towards Yang despite her tantrum in 5.4. Raven gave Yang exactly what she demanded regardless of her own personal views about Qrow and Oz and clearly gave Yang a choice to leave or stay.

Yang's been searching for Raven her whole life and Raven clearly treats Yang better than she treats everyone else. It's so obvious Raven feels for Yang with how Yang can get under her skin to the point where she makes Raven cry. And I got a gut feeling that the only reason Yang hasn't told the crew about Raven being a maiden is cause that's her way of respecting Raven. Yang knows Raven doesn't want to be involved in this whole mess, so she doesn't put her in a position where she'd be forced to get involved. She leaves the choice to Raven herself. We've seen so many subtle hints that these 2 care about each other and I hope to dear heavens that RT doesn't screw this one up and has Raven redeem herself and make it up to Yang and her brother.

The FNDM tends to shit on Raven for leaving Yang and Tai but my theory is that Raven truly loves the both of them but she hides it because she’s secretly protecting them and they don’t know it. Also the reason why I think Tai and Summer are together is because Raven asked her to watch over and keep them safe, Summer is also the only who knows why Raven left. Why Raven is also leading the bandits was so that she can keep them under control and make sure they don’t try to increase in size and overrun Remnant or worse join Salem. The thing is the FNDM is quickly judging her on what she’s doing now not knowing why she’s doing it!
Raven’s first rescue of Yang in vol.2, little did she know that this would be the last time she would see her daughter in one piece considering Adam chops off Yang’s arm in vol.3.
I mean at this point she doesn’t even deserve it. I don’t wanna see her do like one or two good things and then be instantly forgiven of all of her shit as is the case with most redemption arcs.
They are literally setting up team rwby to be the next 4 maidens. Cinder will think of Ruby (total fixation there), Winter of Weiss, and Raven of Yang. Only one missing is Blake, and the summer maiden hasn't been introduced yet
Whenever I think of Raven and Yang’s relationship I’m reminded of a quote from Yondu from Guardians of The Galaxy: “he may have been your father boy, but he wasn’t your daddy.” Summer Rose was Yang’s mom in all the ways that actually mattered and Yang clearly admires and loves her calling her “Super mom” along with “Baker of Cookies and Slayer of Monsters” only for that to be disregarded as she calls her “Ruby’s mom”. It’s like those crappy soap opera that change the personality of the characters at the drop of a hat.
Well, yes and no. Yang calling Summer "her mom" was, for me, a way for yang to do a middle finger to her mother but also a way to cope. Way was looking for her mother like she said in her backstory and calling Summer "Ruby's mom" is a way to show that Yang is evolving.
Yang and Raven's talk in the vault is one of my favorite scenes of the entire series, Yang practically took the truth and repeatedly slammed it in her mother's face. Hopefully Raven understood that all she did was out of fear and cowardness and not "to survive" how she kept telling herself, maybe she will take courage and help her daughter in the future.
Is no-one gonna talk about how raven is literally just Vergil? Coming back to this reminds me so much of how I felt about how my own biological father isn’t around. I’ve only got my mom’s side and a step-dad. Not for very long, but long enough to pass a year or two. My mother’s raised me alongside my grandmother, and she’s had to play both roles, even if she never meant to. I’ve asked for help from my uncle, gotten tough talks from my cousins with their own families. At the very least, I’ve got a rough idea of what’s right and wrong. I want to find my dad. But at the same time, if I do, I don’t think he’d even recognize me. So, I’d much rather focus on the family I have now.

She was toying with Cinder in V5, wasn't trying to fight when confronted by Qrow, has watched over Yang and possibly Ruby as well (for Summer) She has the most interesting relationship with Yang if only it was focused on with legit good writing it would be great.

So, in the flashback, Yang has black hair. This could just be the artistic style of the flashback and, if you look hard enough, you can see hints of gold in her hair, but it could be something else. Yang's eyes are a mix of Tai's and Raven's, so it would make sense for her hair to do the same, but she just dyes it.
Most say that ironwood giving yang the arm seems like special treatment but the guy is rich,heard that yang fought like hell,and he's already missing like half his torso so he knows what shes going through

I really hope they give Raven a redemption arc where she arrives in Atlas to give aide to her family and face Cinder once again and again smash her face in.
I think it's ultimately great that in the end Raven proves yang right, and all yang can do over she had the relic is cry because for the second time in her life her mother left her

So I have a theory. The reason why raven left is because she wanted to protect yang. She wanted a normal family but instead Tai wanted to help Oz to defeat Salem. Raven didn’t want to get involved a war against Salem. So she thought that maybe if she left, Tai will be able to raise yang and forget about Salem and ask Summer Rose to be with him. And she didn’t want everyone to know that she has the maiden powers too.
27:27 Knowing what I know because of Volume9, I feel like Raven is apologizing for failing on her and Summer's final mission. If they succeeded, they would have defeated Salem, and Yang would've had a better childhood. However they failed, Summer died, and Yang grew up without a mother and is now having to fight Salem in her stead knowing there's little chance of success.

@L E V E L 0 in my opinion, after being given her powers by Ozpin, she begin asking Oz lots of questions to see why would he gave a part of his magic to them, probably thinking that there is more to the story than to what he told to the others about Salem and etc. She probably threatened him which is why he just told her everything.

I feel like Raven is going to die saving Yang and Yang will become the Spring Maiden. That would redeem Raven as a mother, and such a scene would have a great impact on Yang, so it would be interesting to see where her character would go from there since she would be a maiden, and she would possibly seek revenge against the killer as well. Raven could show up in Volume 8 since Ruby sent the call for help across Remnant and Raven has a portal semblance, so it is entirely possible we will see her again this volume.
They turn vanilla, her pink and brown eyes swap colors depending on whether she's attacking or not and we've seen them turn green or purple as well. I think she just has mood eyes and the pale vanilla is her fear color.

I wouldn't be surprised if Raven let that life-changing injury happen to Yang in order to try to discourage her from being a huntress-- from being scouted by Ozpin and eventually led to fight against Salem. And trying to get Yang to join her tribe with that same end.
And finally, Raven's semblance. Portals that lead to people she cares most for. How appropriate for someone who is too afraid/runs away and cannot bring herself to forget about her loved ones. Eventually she always returns.
You have a point in all this. She does seem to have Avoidant Attachment Issues. The one thing I disagree with you is that Raven let Yang lose her arm. Raven is a b***h, I think we can all agree on that, but I don’t think she would go that far to dissuade Yang. Though I certainly agree that Raven would try to convince Yang to stay with the tribe (as seen in her first meeting with her).
When Volume 10 comes out, I am SO interested in what Raven has to say about her and Summer’s mission. I got my on theories on what happened, but I guess we’ll see.
@@davidkoudelka10 I'd wager that if she was aware of Yang's fight if anything stopped her it was fear of Adam. Regardless of how he lost in the end, no longer at his best and slipping because he couldn't handle his emotions, at his best he was dangerous enough that I think she'd hesitate. But it might be more likely that she stopped herself from watching Yang after that single save to make herself keep that promise of Yang only "getting one save." I'd guess that her not being aware because of something like that is more likely.
@@NioGetsume Oh by all means, Adam was a FEARSOME fighter, but one that Raven may have been able to defeat (being a maiden and all, albeit leaving with a few wounds maybe) and would have regarded with contempt. She definitely knew Yang lost her arm after the Fall of Beacon (as evident by her meeting with Qrow), but likely only learned after the incident occurred.

She's a better mother than most parents who leave their children, that's for damn sure. Most of them just end up leaving their kids and never bother to check in at all. Raven has literally been in Yang's life more than most people are willing to give her credit for. Not to mention that instead of running like everyone else claims she does, Raven had actively became the reason for Yang going down the path of a huntress and the reason she's gotten as strong as she has. Sure, some kids force themselves to become stronger in those cases, but it was literally what drove Yang day in and day out and that has ultimately shown in this video.

I’m of the belief that Raven will get killed and/or sacrifice herself trying to protect Yang (something Yang will unfortunately have to witness) and Yang will inherit the powers from her mother. Yang is like her mother in many ways. Although I’m still trying to figure out why she never told ANYBODY that her mom is a maiden. Like I’m pretty sure she didn’t even tell Blake so I’m curious to see if and how that’s going to play out.

Part of me likes to think Yang calls Raven mom for two reasons.
-To never let Raven forget that no matter how much she runs, she can’t escape the fact that she is such to Yang.
-To keep herself from ever slipping up and becoming just like her.
I relate to Yang in many ways. The first being that I’ve never met my real father, I had stepdads that took up the mantle of fatherhood. But, still to this day, I’m determined to find my biological father-wherever he is-and find answers about the other side of my family tree. Years of searching goes by, and then when I finally reached adulthood, I get a strange text from a person who’s name I’ve never heard of. Turns out, my mom knew exactly who she was. Someone who was actually searching for me for years: my long lost cousin from my father’s side.
I had many questions, some that brought me closer to understand the other half of myself. Although this doesn’t bring me closer to my real father, I’m proud to reconnect with my cousin. Strangely enough, my long lost cousin knew my other cousins from my mother side of the family. A small world we live in, indeed.

Yo dawg, I don't know if you watched the same v5 I did, but Raven was very accommodating towards Yang despite her tantrum in 5.4. Raven gave Yang exactly what she demanded regardless of her own personal views about Qrow and Oz and clearly gave Yang a choice to leave or stay.
They still view each other as family despite everything else. On some level they want to love each other but their views are too different

Yang's been searching for Raven her whole life and Raven clearly treats Yang better than she treats everyone else. And I got a gut feeling that the only reason Yang hasn't told the crew about Raven being a maiden is cause that's her way of respecting Raven. Yang knows Raven doesn't want to be involved in this whole mess, so she doesn't put her in a position where she'd be forced to get involved. She leaves the choice to Raven herself. We've seen so many subtle hints that these 2 care about each other and I hope to dear heavens that RT doesn't screw this one up and has Raven redeem herself and make it up to Yang and her brother.

The FNDM tends to shit on Raven for leaving Yang and Tai but my theory is that Raven truly loves the both of them but she hides it because she’s secretly protecting them and they don’t know it.
Also the reason why I think Tai and Summer are together is because Raven asked her to watch over and keep them safe, Summer is also the only who knows why Raven left.

Whenever I think of Raven and Yang’s relationship I’m reminded of a quote from Yondu from Guardians of The Galaxy: “he may have been your father boy, but he wasn’t your daddy.” Summer Rose was Yang’s mom in all the ways that actually mattered and Yang clearly admires and loves her calling her “Super mom” along with “Baker of Cookies and Slayer of Monsters” only for that to be disregarded as she calls her “Ruby’s mom”. It’s like those crappy soap opera that change the personality of the characters at the drop of a hat.

Yang calling Summer "her mom" was, for me, a way for yang to do a middle finger to her mother but also a way to cope. Way was looking for her mother like she said in her backstory and calling Summer "Ruby's mom" is a way to show that Yang is evolving.

Yang and Raven's talk in the vault is one of my favorite scenes of the entire series, Yang practically took the truth and repeatedly slammed it in her mother's face. Hopefully Raven understood that all she did was out of fear and cowardness and not "to survive" how she kept telling herself, maybe she will take courage and help her daughter in the future.

I'm actually wandering what happened to raven and oz. I actually think I could be something about summer rose meaning oz had planned to send summer against Salem or something like that.
Coming back to this reminds me so much of how I felt about how my own biological father isn’t around. I’ve only got my mom’s side and a step-dad. Not for very long, but long enough to pass a year or two. My mother’s raised me alongside my grandmother, and she’s had to play both roles, even if she never meant to. I’ve asked for help from my uncle, gotten tough talks from my cousins with their own families. At the very least, I’ve got a rough idea of what’s right and wrong. I want to find my dad. But at the same time, if I do, I don’t think he’d even recognize me. So, I’d much rather focus on the family I have now.

Yang and Raven could practically be twins how much alike they look besides Yang’s blonde hair from Tai. Well...also their tempers...
Yang has her mother's ferocity, beauty, and strength, but she has her father's determination and kindness.
So, in the flashback, Yang has black hair. This could just be the artistic style of the flashback and, if you look hard enough, you can see hints of gold in her hair, but it could be something else. Yang's eyes are a mix of Tai's and Raven's, so it would make sense for her hair to do the same, but she just dyes it.

So I have a theory. The reason why raven left is because she wanted to protect yang. She wanted a normal family but instead Tai wanted to help Oz to defeat Salem. Raven didn’t want to get involved a war against Salem. So she thought that maybe if she left, Tai will be able to raise yang and forget about Salem and ask Summer Rose to be with him. And she didn’t want everyone to know that she has the maiden powers too.

If they succeeded, they would have defeated Salem, and Yang would've had a better childhood. However they failed, Summer died, and Yang grew up without a mother and is now having to fight Salem in her stead knowing there's little chance of success.

@L E V E L 0 in my opinion, after being given her powers by Ozpin, she begin asking Oz lots of questions to see why would he gave a part of his magic to them, probably thinking that there is more to the story than to what he told to the others about Salem and etc. She probably threatened him which is why he just told her everything.
If I remember correctly when he told RWBY about salem he also mentioned team STRQ(their parents and Qrow's team) was made aware of salem.

I feel like Raven is going to die saving Yang and Yang will become the Spring Maiden. That would redeem Raven as a mother, and such a scene would have a great impact on Yang, so it would be interesting to see where her character would go from there since she would be a maiden, and she would possibly seek revenge against the killer as well. Raven could show up in Volume 8 since Ruby sent the call for help across Remnant and Raven has a portal semblance, so it is entirely possible we will see her again this volume.

I think it was just an animation goof
They turn vanilla, her pink and brown eyes swap colors depending on whether she's attacking or not and we've seen them turn green or purple as well. I think she just has mood eyes and the pale vanilla is her fear color.
