This video is talking about fitness, beauty standards and why BMI and bodyweight isn't the only way to measure progress. #fitness #gym #gymmotivation - Zábava
I honestly don't believe her. Her doctor probably told her that her bmi says she's overweight but she's otherwise healthy. There's no way a doctor in the US is blindly using bmi to give a recommendation to gain or lose weight when, especially in this case, it's obviously inaccurate.
bmi is a decent metric for maybe 80% of people. It's wildly inaccurate for the rest
BMI is good for measuring the obesity of a population, but often people who lift are considered overweight by BMI alone
same, anything for attention...
Yea she is 100% takling bs. I recently listened to a podcast from a german doctor that said that false positives like this this are actually really rare. In most misclassifications the BMI produces false negatives nowadays. So people that are skinny fat are classified as healthy.
She is clearly British, and the NHS does absolutely follow the BMI metric like it is gospel.
Was just typing the same...my BMI is slightly higher, but I have had no remarks that i should loose weight, just "keep exercising and eat right"
Let's not forget, there's a line. I hear a lot of people saying "BmI dOeSnT mEaN aNyThInG" when theirs is quadruple their age. That being said, performance is a better measure of progress than weight when you're a physically fit person.
I mean, in my opinion, BMI does matter, that is for the average person. When you're an athlete or into sports or any physical activity, it is when BMI starts to become useless. You could be someone who is 5'6 and weighs 160lbs but is built like an absolute unit. It's all about the performance in the end and i agree with what you said.
@@thatmadlad5381 yes, precisely
lets not forget people think they can be 20%+ body fat just for going to the gym
@@sssss7026 I might be reading that wrong but I'm not sure what you mean
It's very simple if my opinion, if your BMI is high and you can't tell if it's because of fat or muscle you should probably go on a diet.
6 minutes man.
arcdelio doesnt actually work out much. from my research, i have concluded that he gets all of his muscles from carrying the fitness industry.
Nice
That's... That's his workoit, bro. That _is_ workout.
@@danielawesome36 yeah but the thing is he makes it look so easy its not even a workout
I dont believe an actual doctor said that....seems fishy
Just another attention seeking girl most likely
Yeah it's either her humble bragging or sowing that classic gym bro distrust to medicine.
You americans tend to have an insane amount of trust in your doctors lmao. Have you ever seen a package of cigarette from about 60 years ago that literally said "recommended by most doctors"?
Yup she is just attention seeker and wants to flex abs which behaviour is not very uncommon among Karens having social media accounts
@gvngbvngiggy what if they’re not American 💀
Bmi does not apply to people who build muscle mass like she did. Bmi is used for the average human, one that doesn't build muscle mass. Thats what people don't understand about bmi.
Should add, modern average human. We were super human before the food industry destroyed everyone.
Yes it does. Bodybuilders are not an exception. Having more than 25 BMI is actually correlated with higher mortality risks. Having too much muscle is unnatural and it's hard for your body to maintain them.
Deep down they understand it, they just wanna be fat and not be shamed for it so they hate on the bmi metric because they see it as a weapon used against them.
@@konneuktrevor9295 Correlation ≠ causation. I guess Lionel Messi (24.9 BMI) needs to be really careful about gaining a few more pounds or he will die early, and LeBron James (26.6 BMI) is already on death's door.
@@toptextbottomtext3062 I am not sure about actual BMI level that is starting to be unhealthy, it's probably around 28-30. The athletes you have mentioned are not bodybuilders, so they don't have too much muscle and they for sure have lower mortality risks. I am talking about bodybuilders. I know that this correlation is probably mostly associated with taking steroids (using roids => more muscle => more BMI => worse heatlh) but even being at your peak of natural form is probably not good for your body as it must constantly maintain high amount of muscle.
Chillest gym etiquette bro in the world ❤
I doubt any doctor told her that lol
I want to doubt it too but my school doctor told me I didn't weight enough because back then I was 176cm and according to her I need to be a certain weight.
She gave me a pamphlet afterwards and when I left the room, the other guys also asked me if she seemed strange because she insisted with them as well that we weren't "healthy".
@@JackDemons school teacher != doctor
Lmao then youve been lucky in your experience with doctors because in my case 9/10 have been idiots and this would be the least surprising thing to happen
No doctors have said that a lot. My sister in-law is a strong athlete and doctors have berated her for being obese
I remember one of my coaches told us a story from when he was in high school football getting his weight measured. He said he was practically pure muscle and nearly six foot, and the person measuring his weight declared him as obese.
I am 5'8" 170. I bench over 400lbs and run 60 miles a week. My doctor told me I am overweight while he was out of breath and sweating from walking down the hall.
Ok pick me guy we were so interested to hear that.

I just had the same issue last month for an insurance physical. I'm 5ft 10in, 180 pounds and workout 5-6 days a week. My abs show and I look and feel great - the final insurance eval said I was overweight based on the American Heart Association metric. Sounds like the AHA needs to get on a program.
Your BMI *may* call you overweight although you're not too fat.
However, for most people it's much more likely to have a normal BMI and still be too fat.
(BMI is from times when people still used their bodies.)
Anyway, if there are grabbable lumps of fat, I'd suggest not to believe your normal weight BMI.
Bmi is stupid anyways. I went my doctor and he said I had a very high bmi, but he saw that I work out so it doesn’t matter.
@@victor2055, that's not how it works.
If your bodyfat is too high, you should lose fat.
@@user-nm3ug3zq1y Exactly but it doesnt count the ratio between muscle and fat. Nor does it count bone mass.
@@victor2055, that's true of course.
BMI was originally meant to see if *populations* got fatter or leaner.
For any individuum, the result may be far from accurate.
However, for muscle to make you overweight or even obese, you need to have a *lot* of muscle.
So much that other people on the street glance at you and think: Damn, that dude's jacked.
That's not most people though.
So for most people hearing from their doctor they're too heavy, "BMI is nonsense anyway" becomes a dangerous excuse.
If you have enough fat to grab it with your hands, you should probably lose some weight (fat).
like ronnie coleman is technically considered morbidly obese on bmi, which isnt very accurate xd.
BMI works as a good guideline if you apply it to individuals who doesnt workout, which is the majority
I hate your pfp

thank you for spreading truth and positivity
Im naturally heavy for my height. The way i see it, if im a size med, can run up stairs with out getting winded, exercise regularly and eat right. I dont need a doctor to tell me if im in shape.
Aside from BMI, there are other indexes out there that take waist, neck, hip, and height measurements as parameters. Basically girth measurements should do better than a simple BMI chart.
Muscle weighs much more than fat, also the doctor should have measured waist to hip ratio and bodyfat % before saying she's overweight
muscle doesnt weigh more than fat, muscle is just more denser than fat so it takes up less volume, its like that one thing that goes like "whats heavier, one pound of fat or one pound of muscle"
@@cheungfun_ I think he was trying to say that
you know thats what he means , right ? @@cheungfun_
@@cheungfun_ that's what I'm saying. Putting it like that nothing is heavier or lighter than something else, although everyone refers to lead being heavier than aluminum
@@cheungfun_ that's literally what "muscle weighs more than fat" means
I didn't get my weight measured in clinic in years. Every time I go to the doctor he just asks what my weight is lol. Props to her for having so much muscle - my BMI is just slightly higher then normal and my abs is not that visible
She definitley shouldn't worry, lloks absolutely gorgeous
Even if youre mostly muscle you can still be overweight and over time it can still wear down your joints especially if you engage in higher impact cardio and sports.
if your doctor looked up your BMI then get away from them ! if you are lean then look up your MMI - muscle Mass Index or LBM - Lean Body Mass.
advanced mass metrics is fat free mass index (ffmi), and it works just fine
Yeah, I don’t believe her in the sense that the doctor stopped at saying that the screening BMI says she's overweight. It's basic medical school stuff that they teach us that there ARE exceptions, such as bodybuilders, that throw off the calculations.
Height, weight, age BMI that everyone is familiar with is the quick version, done in minutes. The ACCURATE version, which goes down to decimals, is actually pretty invasive and possibly painful isn't strictly necessary if you have a pair of functioning eyes.
Factss. No medically trained professional would ever tell an obvious fit woman like her to lose weight based on BMI lmfao, we literally learn the caveats regarding BMI as we learn about BMI in med school. She's 100% farming social media likes.
@Swanson-hs5df Hell, we're tested on it. They always like testing the exceptions.
Bodybuilders are not an exception. Having more than 25 BMI is actually correlated with worse health condition. Having too much muscle is unnatural and it's hard for your body to maintain them.
@konneuktrevor9295 that was just one example mate. Elite athletes with more lean muscle than fat registers high BMI, Polynesian people, and post pregnancy are also SOME examples. Sheesh.
waist to height is just as quick as BMI but is more accurate. BMI is outdated and is based on an un realistic standard.
I started gym a month ago and my weight was not lost by even half a kg and I think I gained 1 kg but I feel stronger and more active than before but still in that overweight section by 3-5 kg.
I am confused as to continue with my current schedule or should I lose weight by having calorie deficit.
I still have a bit of those love handles and tummy but I thought after 5-6 months of gym my muscles would be more defined and then I can go on for a cut eventually
IDK what's "scientifically optimal" or whatever, but I just got some muscle for a bit while not gaining a lot of weight and went on a cut later. I wasn't that overweight and I felt healthy, no knee pain, I didn't get winded easily, had high energy, etc. so I figured I'd build some muscle mass first so I'm not cutting into nothing. I think if it's just a few kg then it's not a huge issue as long as you aren't getting decreased energy or health problems from it.
@@monkemode8128 yep previously (around January) when I had similar weight I went on jogging + walking for about 2 months doing 4-5 km a day. My goal was to attain the optimal weight as per my BMI
I lost 7-8 kg in that time period but also became a bit scrawny with less muscle mass although I did felt great mentally and physically.
But once I stopped after 3-4 months, I again gained those 10 kgs.
So I thought instead of going back and forth from fat to thin vice versa, lets build some muscle first and then go with the cardio+weight lifting for that cut.
So I am hoping the next time I go on a weight loss session and cardio, my muscles would be more defined and I would look much better physically.
The only key is consistency though.
I am hoping that I could continue the gym for next 6 months without losing the motivation.
Doctor said my BMI (26) is overweight, but that I'm healthy and it's nothing to worry about.
Im a 5ft 6 male and i am quite muscular from years of lifting and protein intake, but my bmi says im obese because of my height and weight ratio. Thats when i stopped putting too much stock in BMI calculations
look up LBM or MMI
LBM - lean body mass
MMI is muscle mass index
Unless you can see your abs you are overweight doesn’t matter how much muscle you are carrying.
@@henrycooper4213 its nothing like that bro
@@henrycooper4213 by measuring BFC-body fat calculator, you can see your fat %
BMI is doo-doo for anyone who is an athlete or in shape. It shifts to percentage of body fat for people who are in shape. I have a BMI of 28.5 (30 is obese), My percentage of body fat is 18%, that's what's important.
90% chance her doctor did not tell her that, like cmon
She's not fat, but she's big. Also women tend to store fat in her thighs, so visible abs don't mean she doesn't have fat.
Any doctor saying that, can lose the license of working. I think she is just lying 😅
Highly doubtful a doctor ever told her that.
Doctors know this, they use BMI as a rough estimation but they also visually examine their patient and there is no way they told her she was overweight
BMI, like the MBTI, is an Index. It's used as a general guideline that describes characteristics.
She's really beautiful and healthy, nothing to worry about.
I haven't been under my BMI in decades, yet my VO2 Max is competitive with Professional Athletes because I run 5+ Miles in the Park x3 a Week despite weighing well over 240-250 pounds at 5'9. BMI is a really outdated way of looking at Fitness, it comes from the early 1900s when Doctors would take a Patients Height and Weight and decide what is a "Healthy" weight for that size. Problem with that is it doesn't account for Lean Mass or Denser Skeletal Structures and Bones, your Bones become more dense the more you Walk and Run. There so many more variables than total poundage, especially when you consider muscle is heavier than fat, so if you take a Athlete and he or her bulks up on top of a really strong physique you could be wayyy over BMI but be healthier than 160 pound stick figure that smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day.
I don't think her doctor told her anything about BMI
she wants to say that BMI doesn't work, & this is her way of conveying the message
I was told the exact same thing that I should lose weight I told the doctor to feel my calf muscles they couldn't believe how hard they were, then said don't lose weight.
GOOD MORNING!
my country considers a BMI of 23 & above as overweight 🫠🫠
a lot of secondary schools had this programme where they pulled overweight & obese kids out of assembly once a week to run laps.
my friend who was overweight by 1kg was forced to be in the programme as well. i myself was also only a few kilograms overweight, can’t remember the exact number. both of us female.
as you can imagine, it wasn’t that effective. it only worked on a few who were too embarrassed to be in the programme, & they lost weight on their own, mostly through unhealthy methods.
if you think it was decades ago, i’m only 22. all this happened less than a decade ago.
Lots of great comments on the topic here.
I'll add. Saying "these obviously very fit people have a high BMI, therefore the BMI is garbage in measuring health" is a bit like saying "I know a bunch of smokers that reached their 80s, therefore the number of cigarettes per week is garbage in measuring life expectancy".
Definitely. BMI just isn’t suited for people who lift
She is lying. She just wanted to show off her abs with some click bait title.
Bras, guess whos got an obesity class n1 (idk how it complies with 6 pack and visible leg veins (im on test) but imma reach maximum lvl bulk starts)
Body fat % is definitely a better indicator of health than BMI.
I haven't even lost a total of 10kg since I started lifting about 18 months ago- so I still have a BMI in the high 20s. I was clearly overweight then, but look different now. I've had a lecturer at uni who's an MD approach me twice looking concerned because "you've lost a lot of weight" and was only really relieved when i told her it was intentional. I can see some of the differences in my body as well. My face looks different- I can see the outline of my cheekbones, and my jaw is much more clearly defined. I have much more muscle definition, struggle to sit or lie on hard surfaces because the bones in my butt and boney parts of my spine don't have much padding, my stomach is almost the flattest it's ever been and I'm told I cut a slim figure. But in saying that- I do still carry too much fat around my abdomen (I tend to hide it with loose shirts)- so I think I'm probably not quite at a healthy body composition just yet
This is my exact experience - I lost 30 kgs, and my BMI is down to 19.0 (I'm 6'2 and a half, and weigh 67kg) - it's completely a healthy body weight, and my BMI is good - I feel terrific (apart from bony when sitting on things, cold often, etc) - but the amount of people who react like I am dying is absurd. Ironically, they are obese and far unhealthier...
Very nice that she cared for your weight-loss, unintentional weight-loss is a warning sign for every medical professional.
@@NN-cr6gx Yup- never a sign of anything good

We laugh at my BMI too, it isn’t made for anybody that played sports… 6’3” 215 is apparently “concerning” but I was a collegiate track athlete and have just added some muscle.
"I need attention and give me attention."
You don’t have to be fat to be classified as overweight by the BMI scale. Muscle has more weight than fat. But having a little more muscle than suitable for your height doesn’t make you unhealthy
My doctor said that BMI was more useful if the patient does not workout or does not do any physical activity, he said that if I didn't do any sports I would be overweight but I play rugby so im alright. It depends on the patient.
Was always on the verge of getting kicked out of the army because I was mostly muscle, always nearly maxed my test but still on the verge of getting kicked out.... was infuriating.
Adorable power-fatansies. however, it is good to remember that in the end you are basically only fooling yourself with your made-up stories.
When i mean i want plus size girls i mean these ones! Epic body girl!!!
The BMI is something useful in a clinical setting, but if you want to also measure the muscle in health person, just doesn’t work
I buy It. I was "overweight" at 150lbs at 5'7, 16 (now 18). I was and am physically fit (shredded If you will). BMI Is utter bullshit, youre either healthy or not regardless
Nobody with a low bodyfat percentage and a muscular physique has any business worrying about BMI.
I don't even believe that she was at the doctors office. She probably just googled her BMI and made a tiktok video in the hopes it would go viral.
FFMI is a better scale than BMI if you lift, period.
Bmi mostly still works, if its not then good. It means 99% people are working out and has more muscle
has the doctor considered body fat %?
Bmi matters except for extreme athletes. So obviously exempt yourself if you are an extreme athlete
Mike Tyson was 220 pounds at 5'10 height💀💀💀 Bro was "overweight af" by BMI standards
I would recommend going after bodyfat % thats more accurate as I know
I don't believe her not just because doctors don't blindly follow body weight but also she still doesn't look like she has sufficient muscle mass to be over 25 BMI
It's all that muscle, she look strong! I'm trying to get there.
You forgot to say "have a nice day 🙏."🤧🤧🤧
bmi dosent mean looks lol if someones overweight then their heart has to work harder to supply blood to their bigger body, even if the extra weight comes from muscle or fat, the point is her heart is under some strain due to her higher weight thats what it means have a higher bmi, ronnie coleman in his prime and some obese overweight guy both of their hearts are in equal danger, but she prolly is like only borderline overweight shes prolly fine and dosent have to lose weight
No doctor would say you are overweight according to BMI when you are visibly fit. Straight up lying this girl
Respect! Most women would get depressed and start a diet thinking they're fat. It's nice to see someone who actually has common sense.

BMI works for the average person, but obviously it fails for people who exercis a lot. A few years back there was some outcry among fat-activists about it being inaccurate. Of course for fat people it is accurate.

Body dysmorphia and eating disorders are a thing. Don't look at your BMI
I am really curious what her dimensions are then. Based on the door, she looks to be like 170cm and judging by her physique, she weighs like 70kg tops, no? Even at 170cm and 70kg, the BMI is still in the range considered healthy. She just doesn't look like she has the dimensions that could yield a BMI of higher than 25, because she is not even that big.
BMI for gym bros/sis : superb inaccurate
BM for fats : fact

even a child should know that the bmi doesnt include muscle mass/ fat mass, only the simple thing as height to weight ratio
I don't believe her. For a woman to have a overweight BMI and being so leen she should be a lot bigger. It's interesting that she doesn't give her numbers.
This seems to me as someone trying to get social points 🤷🏼♀️
The problem is if someone has body dysmorphism and great body condition, they might actually believe that BMI crap.
the doctor never said she should lose weight.
Athletes have been making fun of BMI since at least far back as the 80s.
BMI is a useful measurement for some things, but its not really an end all measuremeant of health. Its a bit outdated in the way we use it. There is a lot of talk recently of using a different scale with different factors, which I believe is much better.
Use FFMI...fat free mass index calculations when you are an athlete.
even her BMI 'seems' to me in the normal range ?!
Becky looks good
Too much muscle is unhealthy as it makes you too heavy for your heart so don't be over the weight range by a lot
Most women don't workout, she doesn't look fat because the muscles make her bmi high, not fat
It's hard to believe her story. If it is true then the doctor needs to be investigated.
I luuuuv overweight girls
i am also overweight... With slightly more visible abs, more so than 5 or even 10 kg ago... So yeah, that is nice :P
yo i was obese at 6% lmaooooo

Yet another reason why I don't trust doctors.
Isnt Bmi just a sort of a ratio of height and weight? I mean I'm pretty sure ronnie Coleman's not in the "ideal" weight class for his height. So if you're overweight, its because if the muscles dude
Lots of people use any excuse to photograph or video record themselves to display it. Apparently, if you do it for another reason, then you are not vain. Here is a picture of my cat, isn't she cute? I just happen to have my shirt off, flexing my abs next to the cat... I mean, the picture is about the cat, not a shirtless selfie of me... I mean, I forgot I didn't even have a shirt on when I took the picture, because who does that? Right? Just random that I have my shirt off to show you this picture of my cat. Totally random, totally not staged. Also not staged are two pictures of my bi-racial nephews in the background proving that I am totally diverse and a good person.
should have checked body fat percentage
While the message is absolutely true, I don't believe her story.
MALE NATURAL BODYBUILDERS accumulate between 20lbs and 40lbs muscle mass IN THEIR LIFETIME. She's a woman and not a bodybuilder, so she probably has at most 10lbs more muscle than less fit women her size. The healthy BMI range spans around 40lbs. Visible abs in women indicate a bf% that is either at the lower end of healthy or even underweight. There's no way this adds up to a BMI in the overweight range.
