    The Dewar’s 15 is my favourite at the moment. I bought myself a bottle for my 50th birthday. 👍

    Holy cow in loving these stories of the blended scotch founders launching their brands. I still think the best was the Buchanans going into fancy restaurants demanding their own scotch to drum up busniness.

    In South Africa we get Dewar's 15 at 43% (we have a minimum 43% requirement for scotch, YAY) I think it's really a great purchase because for me I get a lot of similarity to the Aultmore 12 (another Dewar's distillery) and it's sometimes half the price of the Aultmore 12 is.
    Dewar's 15 is a good representation of scotch and I'd use it to show someone what scotch is. My first tasting of it was blind and I actually confused it for Johnnie Walker Double Black (weird?).
    Edit: Drinking Glen Moray Peated (43%) while watching x)
    Edit 2: After tasting Craigellachie 13, 17 and 51...I now see why I confused it with double black, that sulphur note really does feel like a peated whisky to some degree. My gosh I need a bottle of Craigellachie 13.

    Had it last night. On the 4th peg did a huge mistake. I added 1 teaspoon of water. Taste was ruined. Great brand. Can't decide which is better, Dewars or Ballentine? What do you say?

    I think whiskey prices vary quite a bit around the country so hard to put a price rating on it. The person overpaying should just Google for prices in his area on what ever bottle he is considering to get a sampling of the price range. Some major stores even price match if you find a lower price even remotely in your area.

    I love Scotch. Well, actually, I love whisk(e)y, full stop. Just finished watching the documentary "Scotch: A Golden Dream". I'm now putting a bit away for a trip to Scotland some day. Clan Lindsay is a Lowland Scottish clan. Besides the clan castles and other historic sites I wanted to try booking a one or more distillery tours. Any recommendations in the region for ones I shouldn't miss?

    On the notes of Dewars, I recently picked up a bottle of the Dewars Rum cask. It's a trip at how different it gets from the normal Dewars. It actually adds a bit of a smokey taste to it. I will have to review it for the FB group, since I haven't done one. I decided to do an extra long dry week (like 2 1/2 weeks) cause of being sick and needing a break. Didn't sign the dry week stuff cause I always forget where it's at.

    Hey whiskey tribe, I’ve become a huge fan of the channel and you guys have really encouraged me to explore the beautiful endingless world of whiskey! I’m looking to buy my father a gift for Christmas and I’m looking for a recommendation. His favorite two single malt scotches are Bowmore 12 and McAllen 12. What would be a good single malt scotch?

    • @dwigtschrude
      @dwigtschrude Před 4 lety +1

      Keith Corkill Based off of the bowmore 12 id suggest maybe a talisker. Based off of macallen I’m inclined to suggest deanston 12 or maybe even deanston virgin oak. And now for something completely different, if he’s the type that would be open to it and you can get your hands on some, the kaiyo peated would be a cool surprise

    Gentlemen,
    I have a buddy who’s wife just gave birth to a baby girl and I wanted to gift him a bottle of whiskey. He’s not too partial to whiskey but I’m determined to find something that perhaps could start him along the line of, “Hmm... maybe I like whiskey.” I was thinking Makers Mark (or 46), Larceny, or the wheat whiskey Bernhiem. I was aiming at those specific ones because they are soft, sweet and generally less offensive than a lot of American Whiskeys. As a Whiskey enthusiast (generally along the American Whiskey side of the house) I had a wide range of whiskeys to pick from but I figured one of these would work.
    What do y’all think I should do?

    Dewar's White Label was my introduction to scotch back in the early 70's. I was never a fan of Johnnie Walker Red Label or Cutty Sark. I may have to try the 15 years old. Maybe you can do a comparison of both the Dewar's and Johnnie Walker 15 year olds.

      I prefer the 12 year old to this. The 15 has more of an oakey character and is actually a little spiky (harsh) compared to the 12. The 12 is more like the white label but way more refined and a little more malty. The 15 has a totally different flavor profile IMO.
