Depreciation is definitely a friend to the second owner, if you pick well (And avoid air ride suspension out of warranty).
Absolutely, the sky is open on opportunities for great deals
I have air suspension on two Mercedes I bought used. Every time a strut breaks, I just fix it within a week😂 not that expensive (for me anyway) the strut goes from about $200 to as high as $600 but I’ve never paid more than 350
These cars are expensive to maintain and keep in good condition. Terrific cars. Nothing drives like a BMW but it doesn't come cheap. Most BMWs are not unreliable. People peddle the same stereotypes about them all the time, that they break down. They generally don't, but maintenance is costly. Make sure you have the budget for upkeep. BMWs seem to go through tires more quickly as well so you are going to be putting new rubber on your car pretty regularly.
I love the color on the M340, I really debated between the M3 and the 340 because of the Xdrive. Since I don’t winter drive it, I thought the M3 was a better choice.
For sure and I would say great choice.
I currently own an z4 3.0si with a manual as a daily and a 528iTA project and I absolutely cannot wait to get my 240i. In my opinion, It’s the only modern BMW that is reminiscent of the old school BMWs, driver focused, short wheel base, tossable coupe that you can get with a stick.
Nice guide overall! I would love it if you could upload a buying guide about some of the older bmw models, like the e39, e46, e60 etc.
Great point, that could certainly be a great video too.
@@ECPP yep it can ma man
cool videos. my used bmw is not nearly as young as these, but it's my favorite model hands down: 2008 650i convertible. it has a clean CarFax report and routine maintenance records, no accidents, was garage kept, and is basically immaculate. it was CPO also in 2011 by the previous owner who bought it from a dealership and only drove it 3500 miles a year in New Hampshire where it's warm enough that many months of the year to drive top down. I'm curious to know your opinion of this vehicle as it feels great and has really impressed me overall. anything I should look out for? can you recommend a good resource? do you have any videos on this model? thanks!
The m340i was released in the US in 2019 there isn't a 2018 m340i
this dope i love it
Got a 2017 540i 2.5yrs old and I luv it. The engine is amazing!! Get One!!!!!!
How much did you get one for? I'm thinking of getting one
@@ishmama.5950 I'm in Australia and got mine for 69k..It was 130k Aussie dollars new. Its an awesome car mate. Do yourself a favour and get one
Fast forward to today that 2017 340 is almost $40,000 man I wish I didn’t wait
I’ve had my e36 1.8i for the last 8 years 92,000 miles on the clock, totally look after it myself, never been to a garage for repairs,I practically run it for nothing.Since I moved to France, somewhere you can still go for an enjoyable drive in the country I’m looking for the best practical z4 convertible model any suggestions?
2004 Z4 3.0i original owner here. Manual 6 speed. 56,000 miles as of 10/2020. M54 in-line 6 engine. I am a divorce attorney who loves working on this BMW on weekends. It is totally a joy to drive. It is NOT difficult to maintain, but you must like to do the work yourself or it could get expensive. I typically only use Genuine BMW parts (the labor is obviously free, so it is the cost of the Genuine parts that drives the cost of ownership). If you click on my icon and watch my videos, I made a couple of videos last month in my Z4. I plan to keep this car forever. Best of luck!
I know that my M6 F13 is a ticking time bomb, but I love the way it looks and drives...
Can you do a video the bmw n20 engine? 🚗☀️
Id love to know all the thoughts on a 2 series convertible... what year and what trim/engine would be the best deal? 4 or 6cc... 2018? 2019? Best value with not breaking the bank on maintenance?
M235i or m240i. The b58 motor in the m240i will be more reliable as it was codeveloped with Toyota and makes great power
lmao. I mean, if you want a BMW that is extremely cost effective I would recommend the RnineT. 0-60 in 2.9 seconds, manual transmission only, the Pure trim is under $10,000 brand new, made in Germany only. The boxer engine makes maintenance like valve adjustments easy to do at home so low to no mechanics cost. They seem to hold value really well, I've been trying to pick up a used one and most are like 2 or 3 grand under MSRP with like 30,000 miles on them. May as well just buy a new RnineT Pure at that point.
I just got a used 2018 X2 325I. Driving and handling is beautiful. Handles on the road like butter. I got it at 63k. Will probably trade it in at 100k and get something with lower miles. Love love love my X2. The interior is gorgeous and finely crafted. Feel I got it used for tremendous value. $26k/63k miles. I think I did good.
Awesome, fun little SUVs did you see my recent review of the X2?
What is the best reliable affordable vehicle for tall drivers especially someone over 6'5?
Toyota Avalon by far.
I bought a leased returned 5 series with hardly 19k miles for just 34k dollars with executive package . Gold deal 😁🤤
Nice
Yeah lol that best bmw I believe undoubtably is 5 series . I’m thinking should I buy cayanne or not .
I would have to disagree with your choices of ‘money’ saving BMW’s and go for the 5L/100km’s and below BMW’s such as the 118d, 220d,330e, 320d, 420d, 520d and sdrive18d f48 (x1) are your best bang for buck for fuel economy and insurances. X1 above does 5L/100km (being the worst of the mentioned)
I have a question, I'm looking at the Audi A4 quattro vs the 330I base. Which ones cheaper to own and better in your opinion?
Audi a4 will be little cheaper to maintain. A little.
thanks
So .... any car with a b58. Got it 👍
Any bmw with the 40i
And b48
@@cosmos2382 B48 is bit lame.
Hey mark is m4 convertible good car compared to coupe??
@ExoticCar PlayPlace
I need your help can’t decide which one to buy!
Which one is better in terms of engines and Automatic/ Automated Manual Transmissions, performance, reliability, resale value, Style, Head turner, not to many repairs and maintenance.
Both Hard top Convertibles and Automatic/ Automated Manual
2008-2013 BMW M3
or
2009-2013 BMW Z4 sDrive30i or sDrive35i or sDrive35is?
Life's too short to drive a boring cars
Yes
What about the new M2 it has the S58 engine that’s the one I’m thinking about
Basically anything with the B58 engine 🔥😝 or an M model post 2015 .
Fairly reliable and very fun
which model comes with the B58 engine?
Car Guy Pretty much all the 40i’s post 2017 , so M140i , M240i , M340i etc
@@shiftautomotive854 wiki B58 and you will see the list.
The B58 is an awesome engine.
But, if you are looking for a pure performance car, and not a daily driver, then the M lite cars which the B58 mostly comes in, are not going to be the last word in chassis dynamics.
I had an M140i for 4 years, amazing missile of a car in a straight line, but spending thousands on it did not turn it into an M car.
It still had a 118i chassis, just with some modifications.
You need to buy a real M car for the true BMW driving experience, if performance and handling are the most important things.
What do you think about a 2011 535i
Just got a 2019 X1 with 23k miles but FWD for 28k still has 2 yrs or 48k left on the warranty
How about the 2018 750i x drive any suggestions or advice.?
Thank you great content as always :)
The X5M is a good one too
That 540 is a nice ride. I could do that!
For sure and it’s complementary to what you currently drive
@@ECPP Absolutely
Many of those B58 and M cars been abused on tracks and might be a real problem for a second owner. Also with oil intervals change 10k miles there is a disaster to happen if you bought used such cars
Thats why you take it for a pre purschase inspection at the dealership.
What about SUVs that's what I'm looking for thanks
That is an oxymoron if I ever read one, bmw & save money. Lol 😂
Sure but if you are buying one anyway, these cars will minimize your spend and maximize your fun
No its a way to be a smart buyer. BMW has the most loyal of buyers despite the costs. They far exceed Lexus in sales in everything but certain SUV models. Furthermore the GS is being discontinued by Lexus despite the reliability whereas you can buy 4 different versions of the BMW 5 series.
Lastly BMW is a luxury performance car brand. It’s not Honda! It’s designed to be driven to the track and then to work on Monday so yes its going to require higher tolerances which is more expensive than a Honda Accord.
I disagree, got myself an E92 320i and it has so far saved me money in the following ways
- it is better on fuel than my previous Toyota corolla 1.6, my overall consumption is lower 11.7 to 12.7
- insurance is cheaper, no I am not kidding
- I speed less and such not getting traffic fines, ironic because I would speed more in the Toyota just to get over and done with the trip, with BMW I ENJOY THE RIDE, on the highway i put cruise control on and relax
- no need for me to guess when I should change something or when there is a fault cause the car tells me, Toyota had none of that
my next car is the F80 M3, I don't know about the states but here I live BMWs are WELL KEPT and maintained by their owners, everyone is aware the car is expensive and they treat it accordingly. I cannot be bothered to buy a small/cheap vehicle new, they are cheap to buy but parts are just as expensive.. may as well get a used BMW which will look 5x better, drive 10x better and have all the features...
EDIT: My car has the M sport pack so it has all the good stuff
David
That’s anecdotal evidence not statistical. This is why there are sites that measure the costs of brands and models by looking at thousands of models not one persons experience.
I have never heard of a modern BMW owner getting less fines for speeding and aggressive driving compared with a Toyota.
BMWs cost more to maintain by every scientific measure. That’s just a fact especially given the level of technology in the new models. Unlike 20 years ago you can’t diagnose your BMW without specialized equipment that is far from cheap.
It’s a great car but let’s not act like it’s not more costly.
@@miketheman4341 A lot of those "stats" are for the American market, which in my view regarding vehicles, is not a very knowledgeable market...when i am speaking about it being cheaper I am speaking relative to the market I am in.. BMWs are expensive to BUY (new) not to run (except the big cars 6 series and up)
Still, they are expensive as hell.
I suppose in USA/Canada they don't even sell 2.0d BMWs?
I'm Trying to get my paws on that super depreciation 2016 750i. I'll regret it later but I want it anyway
Your wallet will deeply regret it
DAMN!! The truth hurt
Good review but your reference for determining residual value is wrong. The proper scale to use would be auction however ordinary people like you and me will never have a chance to know the true value of used cars. Dealerships use AutoTrader to grossly overinflate used cars thus constituting the bulk of their sales.
This information does not apply much in Australia, especially in regards to the price. just too expensive in Australia.
You say in the viseo you would buy a 2 year old 5 series with an additional cpo
My question is the car is either a CPO or its not so what do you mean with an additional CPO, you cant just add a cpo, it's already attributed to the car or am I just not understanding the cpo concept
I love my M240i convertible, bought it new, it just passed the 3 year mark, never a single issue ever with this car, i hope to get many years of enjoyment to go
Great choice and great car.
Hi Scott, it looks like you plan keeping the car for some more years. What are your expecting to spend in the next 3-5 years in regular/scheduled maintenance etc? The reason I ask is because I plan buying one exactly the same you have (2018/2019) and keep it for at least 5 years...I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks
@@DMT-Brazil-Canada one of my plans is to get rid of the run flat tires, i absolutely hate them, i looked at Michelin tires, a set is around 750,i have a very good independent bmw mechanic, he said next thing coming up around 50k would be coolant flush , i drive less than 9k a year, i did replace the exhaust system with a remus, not vecause i had to, because i wanted to
@@scottw1174 thanks for your note. But this doesn’t cost too much, right? Around $200? Glad you have an independent mechanic that your trust. Where is he located? I’m in Burlington ON... might be worth it to go visit him when I get mine. :-) I have no experience with run flat yet so I can’t opinion on this. Thanks!!!
I think before 2019 that M340 came as 340 without the M before it right? And that was 335 before?
Yes the 335 was the n55 just before the 340
@@ECPP Had BMW Brampton not kept my trade in keys and did bs I would have bought a 3 series in 2016.
Are the BMW 135i 2010 reliable ?
+1
I don't have 50,000 reasons not to buy those beautys 😭🤣
Cheers
My 2 dream cars is BMW or Porsche. Like how BMW has backseat unlike porsche
The 911 has back seats in most variants
What about 528??😵💫
HI Marc,
I got a deal looks like deal , is BMW 328i XDRIVE 2011 decent ?
328i is a great, reliable bmw. Fun, quickish, handles like a 330
What can I get for 19k
I think if I was to replace my E90 "M330i", I would probably replace it with the M240i because they have probably learnt from the N54/N55 issues.
Same here, I absolutely love my 330i. Ive taken it on many canyon runs and that enjoyment alone where its just me and the car with a beautiful exhaust note, pays for itself.
Is g20 330i petrol is more reliable than f30 320d diesal please reply
Same same really
I think the m340i is the one i am going to buy when im 20 yrs old.
How would you afford one
@@Brazillianboi69 It's only fifty thousand dollars, it's just taking out a loan.
Why is bottom part of the bumper on that M240i above the exhausts and diffuser white? Doesn't sit well for me. It should be black or carbon fibre, white looks cack, someone has sprayed that white.
I'm an M235i owner in the UK, they're a lot cheaper here, I picked my 2015 plate up last year for £17,500 only 33,000 miles on clock and one owner.
True I believe we pay a bunch here for this car
Replace the word save with cost...... :) :)
No BMW saves you huge money. Neither does Volkswagen or Mercedes. Who's kidding who?
Thanks
Ok mr expert.
If we are talking about a weekend beater that you put less than 5000 miles a year, then I think you’re good.
If you replace all the plastic for aluminum your all good
@@abinsaji4449 how much that cost?
Sorry but I don’t see the point of the 540! The M550 is the perfect compromise and is not the full on M5 but is also a great bargain especially in the 2018/2019 which is the 456HP. It’s the lesser engine compared to the 523hp in the 2020 on so its a huge bargain. This means that you are using the third most powerful 5 series of the cars offered in the new model.
That’s true Steve and personally I would drive the M5 but for a car with more reliability the 6 banger is a better choice for many people with a blend of performance and maintenance costs. The 550 has the n63 which has historically had issues with oil consumption, cooking heads, top end leaks because of the hot V
ExoticCar PlayPlace
True but I would argue that the 2019 on has addressed a lot of this. Secondly BMW is always about a compromise. The 6 popper is too small for a car this size but that is a matter of taste.
My point is that from the standpoint of bargain the M550 with the 456 hp engine is a great bargain after the 523 was introduced. It’s faster than the previous M5 yet it can be had as a CPO car with less than 20000 miles for about 50k. These are 85k new cars that were new less than 2 years ago and cost less than a new 3 series.
I bought a 2019 M550 that has a sticker price of $94000 with every option under the sun except for night vision and entertainment screens for the rear seats. It has every other option. I got it for 60k with 6700 miles on the car.
The 2018s are even a better deal.
90k cars for around 50k with a CPO is a car that can beat a Lambo or Ferrari in the 1/4 mile given the AWD. That’s amazing!
Yeah. 27k for an M340? Not today! The used market is booming. Can barely find a non m-sport 340i at that price.
What model and miles will be great for a 6500 budget
2014 civic
Im not an expert...my father is
Owned a dealership and 2 auto shops....
A Honda or Toyota best 6500 price.
Always buy certified used on all cars....never buy private sale...or " AS IS....

What good is 400bhp plus with 75mph speed limits?
It’s how quick you get there. 0-60 in 3.5 seconds sure sounds a lot better than 7 seconds.
Im in Germany :) Unrestricted Autobahn 5min from me.
Got rid of my Mustang GT cause of the congestion and limits in NY. Too many Troopers as well. The 3 yrs I had it was awesome though. Not practical in the real world of commuting. Best car....VW GTI or R.

Can you make this same video in 2024? Same list applies ??
Yes
If i have 40-60k $ i start new life :-D :-D
Are 4 série 258hp and 6 séries 258hp good deal ?
I recommend bolt on mods... Try to get at least 300hp
GLG Unleashed or is it more reliable to juste take the v8 333hp on the 6 séries ?
No BMW M cars are no good here in Australia top highway speed here is 100ks per hour. Normal driving speed is 60ks per hour. But hear Australia is buying these cars only for profit. A 320i e90 new can cost up to 90k 2006 model new. If you would buy this car 4 years ago as used it would cost 20k. But problems arise due to the age of the car. WEAR and TEAR on these cars are a huge expense , they are not made for the harsh Australian heat.
Thanks a lot for sharing. Cheers
Hi, you live you Edmonton Alberta right. How come all you only talk about US prices?
Yes he's from edmonton
@@didafm so how come he uses US prices when he talks about the vehicles?
i think i'll stick to my 2004 325i with 48k miles since i bought it new lol
Nice cars and work horses
I couldn't even watch this whole video due to the misinformation. You are quoting prices for M340i's going back to 2017, but the M340i didn't come out until 2019. Also you are comparing its front bumper to the 330i next to it, indicating the it had a nicer bumper than the "4 banger" next to it. FYI the "4 banger" can also be had with the optional M package which has essentially the same bumper. Please do some more research before "educating" your viewers
He was talking about an f30 340i equipped with the b58 engine, He mentioned it is the outgoing body.

let be honest when you wnat to have fun and got the money realy the reliable is important?
Somewhat yes.
ExoticCar PlayPlace people who buy lambo( isn’t a reliable. Car is a big money pit) or a boring toyota? That my point
Save money when you buy it used ? But you ll pay more for the repairs? lol 😂
That is usually the case.
I gotta question how many of these cars you actually owned and driven... seems you just talk about cars you never owned
I have owned, driven, or reviewed pretty much all of these cars.
@@ECPP reviewed i believe. Owned thats a lot of tax money down the drain. Great reliable machines im bmw all the way but i prefer big engines.

If you buy a 3 year old bmw you will only have one year left before the car disintegrate
I better stick to the old adage "old is still gold" for now!
For sure if you are fortunate enough to have an older BMW
Idk about in Canada, but in the US used car prices are up 10%+ across the board. Total sellers market. Very annoying as a buyer. Been actively looking for a perfectly optioned M4 for months now but refuse to pay the ridiculous premium. Ever since the new gen M3/4 photos got leaked used F80/82 prices have risen even further and hardly any current owners are listing their cars now as well presumably due to the terrible new grille design. There is about a 15-20% premium compared to 6mo ago before China sent the plague over. Crazy
I hope that the market hates the awful new giant grill & designs as much as I do.
This is why I will never let go off my 2015 f80, 32km and drive like new..
Why do you talk about bmws so
Much but hate them?
cost effective BMW is an oxymoron.
Lol
Too bad they all leak oil.
BMW used to be so handsome, now most are awkward or ugly.
Best cars to buy is Toyota
