This is true! Carol Burnett said so herself: I was in the audience at one of her road shows when she told the story.
Tim Conway (the dentist) made Harvey Korman (the patient) laugh so hard that Harvey wet himself.
Tim took fiendish delight in trying to crack up his castmates on "The Carol Burnett Show", especially when they were trying to keep straight faces. He would find something that struck them funny and just keep digging at them until they lost it and dissolved in laughter.
Jovaughn, this series aired for 11 years, from 1967 to 1978. This particular sketch is from March 3rd, 1969 (Season 2, Episode 20).
One of the BEST moments in TV history!!! The whole series is HILARIOUS!!!! The best parts were when they broke character and kept on going.

The funniest part of these skits were :
1). They were recorded live in front of an audience. They did two shows a week, one matinee performance, and one evening performance. The evening shows were usually funnier because the cast was already tired, and although strictly a family show, sometimes things slipped.
2) Tim Conway and Harvey Korman were an unbeatable team. It was not a matter IF Tim cracked Harvey up, but When and How.
Harvey used to dread thinking of what Tim would pull on him or the other cast.
Tim Conway was naturous for improvising his lines just get everyone cracking up 😂/ to break character
The funniest part of Tim & Harvey sketches was watching Harvey try not to cave!
Whenever Tim Conway was in a skit on this show, nearly all the other actors couldn't hold out from laughing, especially Harvey Korman.
These two would always crack each other up. Tim Conway would add stuff in the live sketch that was not rehearsed. He was a genius at comedy. The Carol Burnett Show was big back in the 70's.

The Carol Burnett Show was filmed in front of a live studio audience. That's real laughter, Jay!! 🤣 The show consisted of 4 people Carol, Harvey, Tim, & Vicki doing skits. They sometimes had guests. I have fond memories of my Grandparents & I always watching it together. I would love for you to react to more!!
Try "The Elephant Story". 🤣 The Carol Burnett show had a spin off called "Mamas Family." It was PRICELESS!! Tim often went off script & tried to get them to break character. The story he tells is on the fly. 🤣

Playing the patient is Harvey Korman and playing the dentist is Tim Conway.
The sketch was inspired by a real experience that Tim Conway had in the army.
A dentist was trying to pull out one of Tim's teeth and when the dentist was going in with the Novocain, the needle went through Tim's cheek and into his thumb.
When you see Harvey Korman laughing, he couldn't keep a straight face and Tim Conway actually made Harvey Korman wet his pants.
Tim confirmed that Harvey wet himself laughing while being interviewed on Conan O'Brien.

It was in the late 60s early 70s when Carol Burnett came out. It was a must-watch! Best part of the show was the characters trying to keep a straight face.

OMG I’m dying laughing 😂😂😂!! I haven’t seen this in years. Tim Conway (the dentist) & Harvey Korman are so freaking funny! This sketch is from 1969. The show ran from ‘67 to ‘78 but the reruns ran forever. I still see them on cable now! I watched them as a kid, through the 70s and early 80s. The credit sequence of this show has a cartoon version of Carol Burnett mopping up the stage, and at one point she scratches her butt. When I was little, I thought that was the funniest thing I had ever seen! I used to laugh so hard at that! Carol Burnett was on TV on other people’s shows for years before she got her own show, too. She’s a legend! Thanks so much for this!

PS. I can’t remember if I already recommended the Bob Newhart sketch called “Stop It!” but it’s really funny! (It looks like SNL but it isn’t. It was on MADtv.)

Tim Conway is a comic genius! You HAVE to watch the elephant story blooper version. If I’m having a bad day, that is what I watch. It is absolutely hysterical!
The Carol Burnett Show was in the heyday of sketch comedy. Harvey Korman and Tim Conway were genius comedians, and in combination with Carol, they made history every Saturday night. I use to arrange my weekend schedule around the line up that lead into Carol Burnett at 9 p.m. on Saturdays. It was some of the best free entertainment that TV every broadcast. Glad to see that you're diving into Carol's very deep catalogue.
Whenever you see Harvey Korman (the patient) looking pained or angry or irritated or upset, that's really him trying desperately to not laugh at Tim Conway's antics.
And at the end of every show, Carol Burnett would gently tug on her ear. That was an ‘I love you’ sign to her grandmother who ended up raising her. Really sweet!

The Carol Burnett Show was on in the 70s...our whole family waited for it to come on every week! Filmed in front of a live audience and I agree the natural background laughter makes it!
I’ll never forget how hard my mom laughed when we saw this.
Tim Conway, who played the dentist here, was well known for playing his parts straight during rehearsals only to often go on wild off-script zests during actual filming to try to get the rest of the cast to break. Harvey Korman, who played the patient here, was someone who took his job seriously and expected it to be done right - thus naturally making him Conway's favorite target.

This is has to be one of the top 3 comedy skits of all time. Not only because of the genious of Tim Conway, but the fact that Harvey Korman can never keep from laughing at Tim's antics. This is beyond words like "Great", "phenomenal" or anything else!! It's a masterpiece!!

This is from the early 1970's. This is one of the funniest shows that was ever on television. I went to a few tapings of the show and it was so much fun. Carol Burnett is incredible as was her cast. They were on the air for 11 years. I watched them every Saturday night, and then when they changed nights. I was lucky enough to have met Carol Burnett backstage because I have a friend that works for her . Such an incredibly nice lady. Tim Conway lived up the street from me, and one day a friend and I got up the courage to knock on the door and ask him for an autograph.
The show aired like this! It was live, part improv, and Tim always made the other comics break character! It was from the late '70s.
I love it when Tim played the Old Man. Always got Harvey laughing.
The series always taped on Fridays, after a week of writing and rehearsals. They would tape twice that day: once without an audience,cans then later on with an audience.
Tim Conway would tape his scenes as they were written, taking mental notes the whole time. Then, after the first taping, he would tell the crew (but never the cast!) to go along with him on whatever he'd improvise for the second taping. That's when he would go all out, trying to crack up his castmates. Carol Burnett says that the scenes as written were very funny, but they were over-the-top hilarious with Tim's improvisations.
Tim Conway & Harvey Corman!! Hilarious!!! They were two of the GREATEST comic geniuses ever to have lived!! Their goal was always to crack the other one up to get him to break character! Tim almost always won! 🤣🤣🤣
Harvey Korman was loosing his crap trying not to laugh. I don't care how many times I watch this, tears are literally rolling down my face. Tim's elephant skit is another one that has me laughing hysterically. Thanks man.

They are old! This and the elephant skit are my favorites. I saw them when they came on the Carol Burnett shows. I thought my great grandmother was going to have a heart attack she was laughing so hard she rolled on the couch. Best comedy team EVER
Carol Burnett always said that she would have to add an extra 15 minutes for any skit Tim Conway was in. Too hilarious!!

The Carol Burnett Show ran during the 1970's when I was a kid. Used to love that show. Yes, mostly skits, with guest visits from famous celebrities of the time. Harvey Korman and Tim Conway were the best. They would often make each other laugh so much they would "fall" out of character giggling. Enjoyed this reaction video. Check out the "Gone With the Wind" skit from the Carol Burnett Show. That was one of their classic skits.

Those two were hilarious together! Harvey could never keep it together, as others here have already stated. That's what made their skits so special. I would love to see your reaction to Flip Wilson's Geraldine Jones Skits. My favorite was Flip in his Geraldine character along with guest Joe Namath skit at the gym. It's still here on CZcams if you type in "more Geraldine.". It's so funny! It's from around '71 or so. I'm always a little shy asking for reactions, but this is one if my all time favorites. I just watched it again!
The Carol Burnette show was the climax of my families Saturday night entertainment! Along with Monopoly and homemade fudge.🥰
Imagine seeing skits like this as a child. I was probably 8 or so. I just ate this stuff up. And half the fun was watching how quickly, and how often, Harvey Korman would break character. Tim Conway delighted in making that happen.🤣

Harvey Korman ends up saying very little , but he is hilarious on his own. Tim Conway also had videos shere hecplays a character named Dorf, who is an..um..expert at various subjects.
The woman you hear laughing so loudly is actually Carol Burnett, the show's hostess, namesake, and cast member. Apparently the audio people forgot to cut her microphone after she did the sketch intro for the live audience.

Any sketch you can see with Harvey Korman and Tim Conway will have you busting out...that is a live studio audience at the CBS TV studios in LA. The Carol Burnett show was some of the best comedy ever...and you could let your kids watch..reruns are on on METV. Korman and Conway were so good they would work to try to make the other guy lose it, and in this one Harvey certainly came close. Look for some of Conways stuff where he plays Dorf...a character he created...

The funniest thing for me is watching Harvey Korman try not to laugh. Apparently, Carol Burnett used to get seriously annoyed when anybody in a sketch couldn't keep a straight face and, of course, Conway and Korman did it all the time. But Burnett rarely did it.
Definitely gotta check out Tim Conway's elephant story.

It is from the television show The Carol Burnett Show, where there are two actors who are incredible. There is Tim Conway (the short one) and Harvey Korman (the tall one). Now Tim's main goal is to try to make Harvey break character and succeeds everytime. This one is about a patient who has a terrible toothache (Harvey) and goes to a dentist (Tim) but this patient is his first patient. Hilarious. BTW, Tim can't help himself that in every interview he gives, he has to say that Harvey laughed so hard, that he literally peed in his pants. This was SNL before SNL. Tim Conway (played “the dentist”) was a consummate comedian. Harvey Korman (the patient) always played the straight guy to Conway. “The Carol Burnett show” was funny as hell. They had incredible writers. Yeah, it’s old school. But it was always off the wall.
