  • John Deere 2038, Rear Top Link Installation, I'll install a new hydraulic top link in this video, damage it, and make repairs actually improving the original design.
    Installing the rear hydraulics on this compact tractor has improved my efficiency with the tractor.
    The SCV Kit is from John Deere, Premium SCV Kit BLV 10882
    Installation instructions LVU29984 05Oct16
    Welcome to my channel, I'm in Dubuque Iowa, and my channel is know as Today in Iowa or Bill Burkhart 1025.Be sure and check out my channel for many videos including the John Deere 1025 tractor backhoe and the many implements I have to maintain my property.
    I'd enjoy hearing your comments, I answer every comment.
    I purchased the top link from, www.agristoreusa.com A wonderful product and terrific sales support.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Comments From Agristore USA: We actually have a link to a page on our website that shows all kinds of different tractor models matched up with certain top links of ours.
    Hydraulic Top Links by Tractor:
    www.agristoreusa.com/pages/hy...
    We always recommend comparing the measurements of our top links with the customer's mechanical top link before ordering or running fluid through the cylinder. We measure our top links closed from pin center to pin center and then extended as far as it will go from pin center to pin center.

    Hello from Siletz Oregon ,,, @ 8.5 miles from Newport directly twards Salem . Iam 3rd tractor now, love the top and side link, Started with Challenger 265B then 12 years now the JD 5075M Cat.2 ,, traded for a JD 333G and been tractor less for 4 years and promised a tractor compact to wife and daughter at the barn so brung home a new JD 2032R yesterday. Excited to trick it out like i had all my other toys. This is theirs but I'll be near for a couple years till they both are comfy and then maybe excavator too LOL. Thanks you for the video, ill be putting in both front 3rd remote and rear power beyond/ double SCV's - part of deal- ill install.....
    I had learning curves my self with 5075M first hyd. top link and when i added the hyd. side link about 4 months latter--that was the big learning curve, bent swivel eyes, busted eyes on cylinder, , never bent a rod....... take care , looking for another video :)

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi C Dee I went to the dealership today and they confirmed the power beyond is in fact gone, but this new design is supposed to do everything the power beyond did. This video is 7 months old and I have used the backhoe many times during that period. All I can say is this design works, and its easier to connect and disconnect the backhoe. So I'm comfortable not changing a thing.

When I bought the tractor my first job was fixing my very long driveway and I wanted to control the box blade from the seat. Since then I have found it very handy in hooking up implements on uneven ground to the quick hitch. These should be standard equipment on a tractor.

    Hi from Clermont, Florida, Bill! Looks like I'm in good company -- same tractor, same hydraulic top link (got mine at Tractor Supply, tho), same bend in the link's hydraulic tube, and same solution by removing the top link hanger hook. No leaks, tho, and it has been quite a while, so I am just leaving everything as is. It's certainly not the only bent part on my tractor, and the top link works fine in spite of the bend.

    HI Bill, that reversed block looks great, as I mentioned to you, I will be doing the same thing soon, as you were showing the rear of the tractor, I notice the connections for the backhoe are missing, my tractor doesn't have a backhoe but I do have the hose connections from the power beyond to connect to something that needs hydro flow, you should check that out because the backhoe has to have its hoses connect to the tractor which is what the power beyond is for, if you need a picture of mine for comparison just messenger me and I will get it to you asap, once again another great video, have a great day.

      @billburkhart  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello TY, another viewer told me the same thing, so I watched your video again and see what your telling me. Keep in mind this video is 7 months old and I've been using the backhoe with no issues. Just for grins I went back to my dealer Monday and he agreed the power beyond is gone, however, this design eliminated that and all I have to do is press a switch and fluid is diverted to the lower connections and provides continuous flow. Connecting and disconnecting is much easier, so I'm going to stay with this and see what happens. Wish me luck. Have you heard anymore on the front hydraulics being available yet?

    The fixed end needed to be a bit longer to avoid any potential obstructions. My hydraulic top link for my tractor has the independent mounts (no pressure block or steel line from one inlet to the other). My hoses are threaded directly into the cylinder housing. My only issue is the hydraulic pressure doesn't always stay when mowing for long periods. Pressure bleeds off but is returned when a quick bump of the hydraulic lever to return to level is wanted.

    I was still able to hit my hydraulic link connections on the cross bar on my 1025r, even with the check valve flipped around. I think I’m going to get some longer hoses and turn the cylinder upside down. It only hits when I have the 3 point all the way up, top link all the way shortened, and I accidentally go down a hill that is a little too steep and the box blade hits the ground and raises a little more. I wish the 3 point had something to stop it from going up like it stops from going down. Lol

    Not that it matters a whole lot, but since I live in eastern North Carolina, I thought I'd pass along a little primer on town names in the area -- Seymour Johnson AFB is right beside Goldsboro, and Beaufort, NC is pronounced "Bow'-fǝrt", as in "bow and arrow," like a girl having a "beau." Beaufort, *South* Carolina is pronounced "Byoo'-fǝrt," as in "beauty." Why that is, I don't know, but that's the South for you.

      Hello Matt, I'm so disappointed that dealerships advice varies so much. The SCV I installed works perfectly without the power beyond loop removed. If you want to IM me, I'll send you photos and I can show you the power beyond is removed (I have the plumbing in a box)
      I'm not a mechanic, but I can tell you I have a switch on the console to my right after the change that energizes the rear hydraulics without needing the actual power beyond connection.
      Tell you what I can do, I have a video coming out next week, I'll make a video showing how well my SCV works and get it out in March. Bill did you have your JD dealership replace your power beyond with the 4th and 5th rear SCVs? Also, did the level controls on your console come with the rear SCV kit? I'm configuring a new 2032R and thinking they could take the cost of the power beyond install they have listed for the backhoe and apply it to the rear SCVs installation to offset some of the cost. I'd love to know what you did to get yours done since your power beyond is gone. Thanks, Dennis from Michigan

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  Před 2 lety

      Hello Dennis,
      Thanks for the question. I did have the dealership install the SCVs. That installation was above my comfort level.
      I've been criticized for not keeping the power beyond connection......but it's NOT required to stay on the tractor. I read the installation instructions and it never instructed the installer to reinstall or keep the power beyond connect. My SCV has been working PERFECT for several years now.
      The levers and the new console cover was included in the kit, it looks factory installed. No cobbling look at all.
      The dealer turned all the unused lines and the power beyond to me.
      Removing and installing the backhoe is easier with the power beyond gone. I'll be posting a new video this summer showing that feature.
