Robert Plant turns 72 years old today. In his post Zep career he has repeatedly shown his early influences and genuine affection for a variety of music genres. Here he is joined by former band mate Jimmy Page in this old blues number made popular by Hank Williams. You're going to see lots of Ahmet Ertegun, legendary boss at Atlantic Records, who originally signed LZ.
GREAT! love this song PAGE & PLANT can play anything and make it fantastic! for the metal heads out there listen to led zep III and physical graffiti.....
When i heard this playing on another video, i thought it was Elvis who's singing, then i saw the comments and I was very surprised that it was by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page!
My cousin Les came here to Canada from Blackpool in '69, with his trove of Beatles and Stones LPs and would ply them for my dad and I. I remember as if it were yesterday him saying one day, "You've got to listen to this, it's fantastic!" It was Led Zep I on Hi-Fi, and little me at age 8 was filled with magic and muse. I doubt that too many folk on this side of the pond had had the pleasure at that point.
Robert Plant wears the same shirt he has during the O2 rehearsals for Ahmet ... and it still looks brand new.. :D who washes and irons your clothes Robert? A prize to that woman! Wonder if he remembered and wore it again as a tribute Blessed
Look out Ethel, it's the Soggy Bottom Boys!! Well done, guys! I appreciate the vein of humour which has always threaded through your musical performances and shared outlook.
If yer toes ain`t tappin while listenin to this...Well theres no help for ya... Cuz my buckets got a hole in it...... Yeah my buckets got hole in it..... Won`t hold no Beer!!! Come sing along it`s good fer ya!!
i saw jimmy and robert working this song 11 yrs ago on tv ch pbs or a&e whats ever became of it. till this i am mistafyed by these recording of this song.
Awesome video! I found something else that's pretty incredible if it's real. This dude posted a clip that he claims is a Zeppelin practice of a song I've never heard. You have to type in "Lost Zeppelin Tune ? " just like that with a question mark but It sounds real to me. Would be amazing if it were.
Hank Williams Snr did write and record in the late 40's. Teen idol Ricky Nelson also covered it but this is the version they were covering - Sonny Burgess - My Buckets Got a Hole in it. Jimmy nailed the acoustic lead spot on. Both Page and Plant dig early blues, country and rockabilly as well as so many other styles of music. So much stuff the pair did way before LZ too. Why can't these guys pay homage to some of their biggest influences? Good on them!
yeah, the clip while the music being played was of Jimmy with a cigarette, but right at the very end , they are all sitting on the couch, and Robert asks if they tracked it, and he clearly has a smoke in his hand there... Also, I seen an interview with him not long after the LZ reunion in December, and he was smoking there to... Not really a big deal whether these guys choose to smoke or not though, they can do what they please!
Its not Jonesy. Like he said when Zep got inducted into the RnR hall of fame: "Im glad my friends finally remembered my phone number." This was rec. before Page and Plant remembered his number.LOL!
I wouldn't care that about Bonham if they toured again one last time. Bands change Floyd, The Who but the "Song Remains the Same"...sorry couldn't help it. But seriously it would still be a brilliant night of music that I would remember for ever. In a few years these guys will all be dead. Then what? No one can ever play the "sacred music" live again?
yes thats it. thats what i was talking to you about, come on join the fun again the country side is waiting for you to fill the space with sounds from a place called eternity, common you can do the last tour I know you can, just do it and the world will somehow pay you back all youve done for us.
@mortyj1979 No, don't think it's JPJ - he's about the same age as Jimmy and Robert, and all three backup singers look about 15-20 years younger than either of them. Not a definitive answer to your question, but I hope it helps. Peace, AHA
I think Robert is holding his glasses here, not a cigarette. He quit ,,for the rest of his life'' sometime around '98, when him and Jimmy played in Paris. This is 2001., so he already quit here.
No John Paul Jones is not singing 'cos he's not there. Ahmet Ertegun is sitting at the desk. That might interest you. It's to his Memory that Led Zep played the O2 gig. Sadly I did not get a ticket. Thank God some kind soul stitched together the various home vids.
@akjd90 I agree but the closest thing you can come to in regards to replacing Bonzo is his kid. Probably knows his father's music and style better than anyone.
The cover is more of Sonny Burgess' version (re: Page's intro and breaks, and Plant's "Dixie fried" voice), and, of course, not Nelson's, where they drained the bucket of beer for the sake of the bubble gum crowd.
@djlittlecarl And Bert Jansch and Davey Graham for Jimmy. Love his music, but true, he never would pay homage to anyone. Maybe cos' he is so fast in picking up any music he hears and making it his own that he forgets where it came from?
dude, i totally agree with you. he needs to drop alison kraus i mean he's been doing shit with her FOREVER now. fuck man, come on it's time to get back with Zeppelin, your roots!
love anything they play! they could even make rap music sound good...
Awesome job on an old Hank Williams tune, love it.
Great, as you know Jimmy and Robert are great !
I suggest you to buy the whole dvd, the tribute to the Sun records is a very good dvd
Cheers
Johnny
An amazing version.
Oh how I love this song
Gotta love seeing Percy's big ole feet tappin' away in those running shoes! He and Pagey are simply precious :)
The best cover of this funny song, I've heard so far !

Wow Robert Plant is so different. he sings so different. It's great! Great song!
all day long please!!!GREAT!
This is awesome!! I knew that Led Zeppelin was inspired by Hank Sr. but I had no idea that they cut this song. BRavo Brothers. Thanks for posting...
I dunno, usually I'd hate something like this but it's stuck in my head. Cute video.
When i heard this playing on another video, i thought it was Elvis who's singing, then i saw the comments and I was very surprised that it was by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page!
Great little tribute to Ahmet Love it Xx
Plant musta spent hours as a young teen pouring over Elvis records, he nails Elvis' inflection and tone. When in Rome as they say.
This is great music performed by great musicians
My cousin Les came here to Canada from Blackpool in '69, with his trove of Beatles and Stones LPs and would ply them for my dad and I. This is the first song I ever knew in my mind. I had to be an infant, most likely couldn't speak, or understand the words. Had to be 1959. Not kiddin'
Robert Plant wears the same shirt he has during the O2 rehearsals for Ahmet ...
and it still looks brand new.. :D
who washes and irons your clothes Robert? A prize to that woman!
Wonder if he remembered and wore it again as a tribute
Blessed
Look out Ethel, it's the Soggy Bottom Boys!! Well done, guys! I appreciate the vein of humour which has always threaded through your musical performances and shared outlook.
Great version of great a tune by Hank Williams.
Ahmet we did it! Go Jimmy.
Ahmet was like a father to them. He must have been so proud of them (and himself) after signing them to Atlantic.
Ahmet Ertgen was responsible for bringing sooo many stars to light.
Holy shit I love Hank Williams. So cool to see Led Zep doing a cover.
Luv it
If yer toes ain`t tappin while listenin to this...Well theres no help for ya...
Cuz my buckets got a hole in it...... Yeah my buckets got hole in it.....
Won`t hold no Beer!!! Come sing along it`s good fer ya!!
I want Page's shirt!
you ought to listen to the CD Good rocking Tonight (the legacy of sun records) where this cut is from

Awesum...Ahmet in the chorus at one point :o)....
i saw jimmy and robert working this song 11 yrs ago on tv ch pbs or a&e whats ever became of it. till this i am mistafyed by these recording of this song.
RIP, Mr. Ertegün.
Where did you find this?!? So cool...
Rockabilly!!!!!😆😎
Those guys were the Cliff Richard’s backig vocal group
thanks for that !
this song is a trip
Mr. Ertegun was in studio with them 🎵 😀
+Kai Hiltunen
But where was Mr. Philips?
i think one of those backup singers in Balky from Perfect Strangers
No, you can see that a few clips are spliced in towards the end, and the hand holding the cig is Jimmy's, just look at the shirt.
his voice has changed so much...
stairway to heaven never stood a chance:(

@herbpayton This is a HAnk Williams Sr. song that Led Zeppelin respected so much. He was their inspirations into their music
Fearless

Haha man im joking, this song is just funny to me and the mighty Page and Plant are playing it so casually.
... yup ... he loved them and always tried to get them to re-group ... so they did ... in his honor ... Robert said "... we finally did it Ahmet!"
@mortyj1979 john paul jones isn't in this video, the lead singer is robert plant, don't know who the backing are. hope that helps!
On repeat
Robert almost sounds a little like Elvis...
yeah, the clip while the music being played was of Jimmy with a cigarette, but right at the very end , they are all sitting on the couch, and Robert asks if they tracked it, and he clearly has a smoke in his hand there...

great- young mens have fun lol :p
"for" SUN but in EMI Abbey Roud Studios UK
Rick Nelson did a version as well-that's the one I remember
Did anyone even notice Ahmet Ertegun or know who he is? To me he's the main person in this video.
Wow, I guess this could be the closest thing to a continuation of the Honeydrippers.
Its not Jonesy. Like he said when Zep got inducted into the RnR hall of fame: "Im glad my friends finally remembered my phone number." This was rec. before Page and Plant remembered his number.LOL!

Currently strumming

5177845: it´s not a cigarrete, he is holding his glasses .
who are the three backing singers ?

@mortyj1979 no that was not JPJ singing. dont know who it was, but it wasn't him.
Listen to the SONNY BURGESS version. Then listen to some of his other songs.
No John Paul Jones is not singing 'cos he's not there. Ahmet Ertegun is sitting at the desk. That might interest you. It's to his Memory that Led Zep played the O2 gig. Sadly I did not get a ticket. Thank God some kind soul stitched together the various home vids.
Bouquet!
Hank did'nt just record it He wrote it
Was that John paul jones singing?
you ignore rock n'roll was born after country music?
Hank WilliamsJr...and Hank Garland ...
Well, Hank Williams did this at least in 1949 ;-)
@akjd90
I agree but the closest thing you can come to in regards to replacing Bonzo is his kid. Probably knows his father's music and style better than anyone.
his voice is the same really
ctually he worked on it to be more diverse and he had a singing coach
that's it
The cover is more of Sonny Burgess' version (re: Page's intro and breaks, and Plant's "Dixie fried" voice), and, of course, not Nelson's, where they drained the bucket of beer for the sake of the bubble gum crowd.
Great voices. But i miss the Rhythm here.
@djlittlecarl
And Bert Jansch and Davey Graham for Jimmy. Love his music, but true, he never would pay homage to anyone. Maybe cos' he is so fast in picking up any music he hears and making it his own that he forgets where it came from?
@mortyj1979 not Jonsey
dude, i totally agree with you. he needs to drop alison kraus i mean he's been doing shit with her FOREVER now. fuck man, come on it's time to get back with Zeppelin, your roots!

@mortyj1979 NO JPJ IN THAT VIDEO.
