      @ swordgoti I grew up in the 60s and was a big Zep fan. Four Sticks was one of the few songs of theirs that I didn't like. I'd always pick up the needle and move it on to the next track (as you did back in the day). But I saw them live on this tour many years later, and this version simply blew my mind. I can still remember the intensity on the face of one of the girls on strings, simply magical. I will treasure this performance as long as I live.

    • @Orcinus1967
      @Orcinus1967 Před 3 lety

      So many arguments, i.e. "They borrowed enough material from their predecessors, to make them infamous." Did Mozart go on stage with an armadillo in his pocket like Plant? How can one even compare them? I am no musician. Therefore I have to plagiarize from what others have written, to form an opinion and present a counterpoint. What is my point? Bach apparently was forgotten for some time. Vivaldi died poor. There is nothing new under the sun, and everybody is influenced by someone or something, so borrowing in music is unavoidable. Will they talk about Led Zeppelin hundreds of years from now? Hard to tell. They probably should, based on this type of criteria, (which I found/ borrowed from someone else):
      "Craftsmanship in Music Composition
      The elements that constitute good craftsmanship in a composer are impossible to define with complete objectivity, but most authorities would agree that a few skills are essential:
      1. Knowledge of technical musical conventions and the ability to apply them consistently
      2. Expertise in the three dimensions of musical texture - monophony, homophony, and polyphony - and the ability to apply them when appropriate
      3. Expertise in the three dimensions of instrumentation - the sound of individual instruments, the limitations and capabilities of instruments, and the blending of different timbres together.
      4. Ability to produce novel musical ideas on both small and large scales.
      5. Ability to take musical ideas and develop them to the fullest extent.
      6. Ability to create in a variety of genres."
      www.bach-cantatas.com/Articles/Defense-Bach[Reese].htm
      I think Page/Plant/Bonham/Zeppelin fit this criteria for greatness well. I hope you are right!

      I bought Zeppelin IV a few weeks back and I love it! On my way to work, I start w/When The Levee Breaks and work my way up w/out skipping a song. So far, this and Physical Graffiti are my favorite albums. I agree this song is a hidden gem. I get excited every time my CD player queues it. Someone on one of the other Page & Plant pages complained about the songs not sounding like the album. This is what I mean when I say having the essence of the song. Sometimes it even sounds better than the record. This is an example!

    JEEZ, Thhis the most tribal, powerful, hypnotic, mystical, egyptian, track, they seem to have everything blended together equally, i would compare it to Jane's addiction, "3 days", & Plant,s "Another tribe", those 3 tracks veer of into their own unique space, Brilliant, Fantastic, & Amazing.

    this is when one or more souls are joined together in love, without some attempt to control the human race, the hightest form of making love and at times without man's original sin, how can it be anything but incredibly beautiful: creation in action, this one: you just saved my life, tonight, sugar bear, going to listen to it multiple times and pass out........
