@@jonbrown-ng2hx - He said "research". Which is now applied to EVERYTHING including $181,406 to Study "How Cocaine Enhances Sex Drive of Japanese Quail" and $680,000 on shrimp running on treadmills. FFS.
It's so scary how right he was. It's exactly what he predicted. We're helplessly controlled. My heart is broken. What a brave man. Amazing speech.
Such a wise and eloquent man! What a shame we have nothing like him today 🙁
50 years later, it's prophetic from beginning to end.
He warned us.
Dacia Murphy No he didn't
Yes he did warn us. This man served this country. Trump is a crook and coward.
Matthew Norris yes he did.
Giancarlo C Trump is undermining and breaking down everything the Military-Industrial Complex has put into place since this speech.
@@gansonaki what has he broken down
My parents voted for Stevenson in both elections that IKE ran in, as they saw him as more liberal than IKE. But they felt that Eisenhower would probably win, and weren't afraid of the idea. The nation wasn't as divided as it is today. I saw him once, when I was about eleven. My father was a member of the NY Philharmonic, and Eisenhower was at the Ground Breaking for Lincoln Center. In learning more about him, I now see him as one of our finest presidents..
Wow! I’d love to hear more of your story
Our children need to hear really hear these stories and learn about IKE
“I Like IKE!”
@@kimberlyhart5692 it was a public event which, I think, you can find pictures, and even an old Newsreel on CZcams. I don't remember the circumstances around my being there. I could have traveled there myself as I was very familiar with the NYC subways. The NY Philharmonic, under the baton of Leonard Bernstein, play under an enclosed tent. Everyone in the audience sat on folding chairs which were on bare ground. When IKE came out to speak Everyone stood up. Being a kid I couldn't see around the adults. I think it was as Everyone started to sit down I caught a glimpse of Eisenhower's bald head and was surprised that it was freckled.
@@nidurnevets that’s great!!🇺🇸😎🇺🇸
He understood everything that was going to happen today if we didn’t listen to his warnings!!!
"... must avoid the impulse of living only for today. Plundering for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our Grand children without risking the loss of also their political and spiritual heritage".
Which is going down the drain as we speak.
Denouncing materialism and consumerism.
Damn.
How right he was.
22 trillion dollars in the hole
I've heard about this speech before but first time I sat down and listened. He was an amazing man.
🇺🇸Me, too🇺🇸
He basically asked for world peace and prosperity. Called for an end to suffering of all kinds. This guy was a flat out genius.
But he pointed out that the federal government will be influenced by the MIC because of how profitable selling weapons will be. He's urging us to vote for politicians that won't fall under these influences
They do not make them like this anymore.
Metal forged in the retaking of the continent, a retaking he led, even Monty obeyed; though not from moral inferiority, just productive capacity (tanks, guns, planes, bullets, etc). Eisenhower paid for most of it, he gets to be boss.
He was a great President and never got credit for it. He loved his country and always tried to do the right thing for Americans.
A great president, great general, great man I pray there would be like him again. Seafare
A true American HERO. And with the events of the times today, he's words ring prophetic to say the least.
Brilliant, inspiring and more relevant today than ever.
This was a president. WOW. I've watched this many many times. Thank you.
@esmith I agree completely. It's almost as if he's warning us about what's going on now but I love how he centers on peace and prosperity, then warns of the dangers of the Military Industrial Complex. Great Farewell address.
"the total influence, economic, social, and even spiritual . . ." Now that is an incredible statement from a president- that the rise of the military/industrial complex would have damaging spiritual impact on the American people.
watching this as a 21 year old in 2020 and my mind is blown. pls check out Laura Eisenhower on here, she is the great-granddaughter of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Thanks for posting the full complete speech.
this speech is amazing
I wish this man was alive today to help us
I had no idea that Eisenhower warned us of this. This is the first time I've seen this video and hard this speech.
Same
Courageous man, truthful President, from a different era, and a much different country than we live in today.
In the Age of Runaway Climate Science™️ and Covid Experts™️, this might be the most prophetic speech ever delivered.
When America was a great country and admired by other nations..
Eisenhower is so eloquent. The choice of words are intelligent, sublime. Something you don't see in government or politics today -- how far we've fallen...
possibly the greatest American of the 20th century.
uhhhhhhhh nah
livingstonmail close, but I'd give it to President Coolidge.
Definitely the greatest Prez of the 20th Century!
I would say FDR was a tad ahead of Eisenhower with having been elected 4 times, the last such because GOP was so fearful of a man such as he, that they hurriedly passed a Constitutional amendment that limited the Executive to 2 terms.
Theodore Roosevelt!!!
This speech is like a eulogy to the Party of Lincoln. It was all downhill from here.
it's not your grandfather's Republican party anymore
Republican party is the party of hope, democratic party is the party of rope.
@sboudreaux27 first Presidential farewell adress was delivered on September 19, 1796.
Let us all give thanks to the Socialism this country is about to receive. Happy Biden years.
And sadly, the Democrats followed the GOP to the right, so far right that this speech would be considered today progressive Democrat position.
Amazing speech. Best 20th century president IMO. The respect I have for this guy is hard to quantify.
If this man is to know what is becoming of his country and people. He would cry a river of tears. What a great man with a great foresight. May God bless him. This man was a true American for the American people. His word tainted with a firm believe in God and Science. A man that weighed both the light & darkness of every progress and decision undertaken within the boundaries of the power given to him. Where are these people today? when will the power of love overcome the love for power.
This guy is awesome, he is honorable, and in it for the best of America, what it was founded off of.
This actually sounded like a warning to the next President JFK!
"haha sure would suck if my successor immediately escalated a dick measuring contest with the soviet union"
No, it was a warning to the American People. JFK messed up the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missel Crisis. Reagan was far better then JFK. He was a great speech deliver much like Obama. All flash and no substance. If I was in the military I would serve under Eisenhower and Reagan they did not get us into wars. God Bless them.
@@deborahj.dirk-halley1850 , Did the Bay of pigs lead to the nuclear warfare in Cuba, meaning John F Kennedy was successful. There was only a crisis and the flexing of muscles with Castro. It ended peacefully. This Speech was meant for Donald J. Trump the Insurrectionist.

Eisenhower had an education and understood everything he pursued . He spoke eloquently and with knowledge of what the future holds .
Why did we take this guy off the $1 coin? This man deserves to be remembered!
Oh there was a reason and it was this speech xD.
I miss this man. He reminds me of my Grandpa.
thank you for putting up the entire speech so folks can hear everything in context then make up there own minds and have a spirited debate. it is mind boggling to realize how much power this man held in his hands during WWII. what an incredible burden that must have been, as well as the incredible , unselfish sacrifice of those that served.
"As we peer into society's future, we - you and I, and our government - must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering for, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. I feel the same way. The most depressing thing to me about the last 18 months is how many people we have in this country who can not think critically. How easily people can be brainwashed to accept the absurd.
What a treasure of wisdom. Don't see the likes of President Eisenhower anymore.

Eisenhower more progressive than todays dem.
No. The only two presidents who were less progressive than Eisenhower are Washington and Coolidge.

MrMrl69 well how so? mrs roosevelt was privatly pushing him to do just that. during ww2 the goverment was in a prime postion to take over because they literally controlled every single thing during the war. they even took over comapnys if they didnt make stuff fast enough or did what the millitary said.
im glad that truman took over as president. he was an honest man
Kennedy?
please don't say Obama. I'm thinking President Reagan. I did love ike.
Epic words from a wise man. I love the way he describes the menace at 3:44 . The American people of 1961 would have immediately thought he was talking about the commies, but the enemy he is talking about is bigger, and already among us.
I really like your comment on this! Right-On!
He was talking about Communism...but oh don't it apply to what we're seeing today (March 2022) with the deep surveillance state. What's really amazing is that the Founders somehow knew and tried to warn us of this threat.

We desperately need leads of this quality in both party's.
The 2 party system is a illusion of power to the people. Look up Hegelian dialectic.

Everything he warned about has come true. As he made his farewell speech, 16 years earlier WW2 was about to end. For us, 16 years ago WW3 was about to begin.
One great and famous farewell speech by a very good POTUS....
I showed this video to my class today. Hopefully, the kids listened and paid attention to this great man.

This is just awesome and so very important to listen to. Eisenhower had it on the money!
Best President of the 20th century. Hands. Down.
JFK Overrated? I like him a lot too.

+Riley Swenson You say that like presidents don't have sex with their wives. Are presidents not allowed to have sex while in office?
Pachakutíc believe it or not, john KENNEDY was not married to marilyn MONROE
My point being all presidents consummate while in office. What does it matter if it's JFK is with a model, or FDR is with his wife/cousin, George W. and Laura or Barack and Michelle. What does banging people have to do with doing a good job at something or not?
