I was a democrat voter at that time. I dismissed his speech when I heard him say tear down that wall, because it was just a speech. I didn't realize that Gorbachev would actually listen and actually implement it. I thought words wouldn't make a difference. I was wrong.

+Ted Baxter It wasn't just words, although words spoken with conviction can change things in some cases. It was also that we were in an arms race with the USSR that they couldn't match. This contributed to their collapse.

You know, a lot of politicians go up to the podiums and claim to support ideals such as these. But Reagan embodies them. He speaks honest to goodness what he believes. He knew how to play politics, and he knew how to keep our country free. He wouldn't take crap from anyone, yet at the same time we was willing to sit down and discuss peace. Thank you, President Reagan.

I was a teenager in the Carter years. I saw record unemployment, 21 percent interest rates, and high unemployment. I watched as gasoline prices tripled. I saw him disparage the producers of society and reward the nonproducers. Tehn, as if by magic, Carter gave us this phenomenal man, Reagan. Today, I feel eerily like I did in the late 70s, and I can only hope that history repeats itself yet again...but this time, we'll get someone even better than Reagan, would that it was possible...

President Reagan, I miss you. It has been too long since men and women of clear vision, character, and strength have led this country - and we are all the poorer for it.
Thank you, sir. Enjoy your well-earned rest in the presence of your Savior.

The writing and eloquence of president Reagan is shown here in this speech alone. This speech, this declaration of love from one man, from one country to another, is what makes this speech one of the greatest speeches of all time.
