    Not sure if you guys know this, but since you showed the specific scene many times, when Tony is chatting to Bruce and Cap in the lab he is eating some berries.
    Robert Downey Jr actually has a habit of hiding snacks, especially fruit, around the set and grabs them mid scene. In this specific scene no-one knew Tony had hid those blueberries and when he pulled them out and started eating them everyone just stayed in character and went with it, so his casual mannerisms where he is offering them to Bruce and Cap is improvised and those guys stayed in character perfectly. I think its stuff like that which he brings to his performance that makes his character pop and seem so real and memorable.

    Ranking Superhero movies, people often forget what a "WTF" game changer this flick was. It was the springboard blueprint for how to load a film with multiple heroes and actually have them work TOGETHER instead of each hero getting their punch/kick moment, then moving to the next scene and someone else uses a power. These guys were truly teaming up and playing off each other. And it was also excellent as a standalone movie. I always rank it somewhere in the top 3 of the best MCU movies ever along with Infinity War and Winter Soldier.

    Joss Whedon's excuse at the time for the 1.85:1 aspect ratio was "it's the only way I could put Hulk and Iron Man in the same frame at the same time". Which, according to someone I've talked to who's more schooled in this stuff, just proves how little Whedon understands cinematography.

    • @kevinw712
      @kevinw712 Před 3 lety

      @William Clay Admittedly the overall response is done so kind of flippantly, but Whedon absolutely did say that in the past, and very much in a "I HAD to" sort of tone. I love the Avengers, it's a well told story with dynamic and fun characters but it is at best a medicorely-directed film. Too much of it plays as too flat and not very well composed. He obviously then had no trouble with the frame fitting in Age Of Ultron.

    I guess I’ve drank a lot of haterade with the MCU, but I can’t help but hope that the serialized style of these superhero movies, shows, etc. that do stick true to comic books in tone and serialization are replaced by more graphic novels style movies/shows, a la Joker, Watchmen, even Logan. I just always think the themes of the MCU are never as interesting as Nolan’s Batman’s and the other series I mentioned...

    • @jonsmith5058
      @jonsmith5058 Před 3 lety

      I think you guys are crazy, for example one of the things they pointed out is how great of a villain Loki is and he is just intimidating by his presence plus you understand his actions and motives. Ultron is what, mad and psychotic cause he is.....
      I had high hopes for Ultron, based on the ruined bot staggering out to their party in their promo's I expected the story to be something along the lines of Tony makes him and during a fight they view him as disposable cannon fodder, then when they return with his damaged body Tony decides to go party instead of fixing him. This could have easily set up Ultrons resent for Tony which was completely unfounded in the movie, he was just born sarcastic and evil and wanting to hate Tony.....
      Because of the paper thin character that is Ultron I couldn't get behind the rest of what was happening, I think Spader did a good job with what he had but meh.
      Civil War I think I like even less as I found Nemo or however it was from Hydra pulling those strings to be the antithesis of intimidating and calculating as Loki was and didn't believe he could manipulate everyone so much, especially with his plot convenience impersonation of the psychologist, which his plan hinges on. The man seemed desperate and barely able to get to his next step (like drowning that guy to get the code book part, he didn't seem in control and like his plans were going well).
      So yeah, for me these movies are often as strong as their villain and Ultron in the movie was a lame villain. Same works out for Iron Man 2, Thor 2 etc etc.

    • @ristosnipeanalyst7839
      @ristosnipeanalyst7839 Před 3 lety

      @@jonsmith5058 I would disagree, but see your point. Honestly I love Ultron as a villain. Ultron has great voice work, he looks intimidating, and he does have a compelling motive. Ultron want to end humanity not because he is sadistic, but because he sees humanity, as the biggest threat to the world (arguably a fair opinion) so he was in essence programmed to destroy humanity. The reason he hates Tony comes from the realization of who Tony is and what he is done to the earth. For example if someone you loved did the worst possible thing to you like kill a man you may hold resentment same could be said for Ultron and his creator Tony. On the other end I find Loki less compelling, while he is brilliantly acted, Loki never seems like a threat, because he is exactly like the villain of civil war someone who is pulling the strings, whereas Ultron was the actual threat, in Avengers the alien army was threatening, but Loki was not. Loki got tossed around by almost every avenger, Thor in Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, heck he was played by Black widow, and could not do anything too Iron man

    • @jonsmith5058
      @jonsmith5058 Před 3 lety

      @@ristosnipeanalyst7839 But how do you rationalize that Ultron was born so evil? Literally as he wakes up he is messing with Jarvis, he's rude, sarcastic and sadistic from the get go, it seems his personality is already fully formed as an asshole by the time he Googles Tony on the internet and decides he's a dick and wants to end humanity, besides he's not even really been given the directive of protecting the Earth at that point, at least not given a chance to think about it much, its like 'ok I Googled Tony, lets kill every human and likely most of life on Earth'.
      I think he had amazing potential and Spader was an excellent voice actor, the model was ok, I think I would have preferred expressive eyes but not the weird robot lips.
      But yeah, I think they just missed a beat setting him up and having him immediately drop evil.
      Stories of evil AI's are fascinating, I think the very best ones are the ones where they act somewhat in self defense after we demonstrate contempt for them or not treating them like a real life form. For example in the Animatrix or the Geth from Mass Effect.
      A Skynet is far less interesting if they are going to be a character, to me Skynet works in the old films because its not seen nor given a personality (I know it likely is in later films but those are trash).
