      @@adamflynn7322 I found sequencing it and telling myself “I’d never put my bike where my eyes haven’t been”. Mirror, signal, life saver manoeuvre. Also if I’m changing lanes into a turn lane I do one when switching lanes and again before the turn. I hope these last few pointers help and wish you the best of luck on Thursday…Let me know how you get on!

    Fair play for putting this all together. There isnt much like this for Irish Motorcyclists. I have a feeling that there are many folks who are finding their IBT was been lacking because this video is the first time they are hearing about the importance of Lifesavers/Shoulder checks. I have heard of a few experiences now of IBT instructors out there delivery a sub par IBT and leaving learners exposed. The only reference made to such an important part of motorcycling in the Rules of the Road is the following! "Watching your surroundings means watching: into the far, middle and near distance; and behind you, using your mirrors and checking over your shoulders, before changing position or turning."
    That's it! A one liner!

      @@Irish_VFR_Ridergot a few pointers out on my pre-test today… said I’d share them with you!
      1) when moving off and indicator on life saver in the direction of the turn/indicator.
      2) roundabout taking the third exit - as normal but leave in the left lane (I.e. if there’s two lanes when leaving the roundabout)
      3) if approaching a yield and bad visibility stop (this one seems obvious but usually important for built up town riding etc)
      4) there’s one spot in Mullhuddart where you come onto a dual carriage way but you’ll feel like you’re on a motorway… get up to speed 100Kph from the slip road and then merge to the dual carriage way. You’ll need to welly the bike to get up to speed!
      5) remember you lane 1,2,3 for turning… I cover it briefly in this video on one of the turns saying hug the curb… do this when turning left/right.
      6) remember to lifesaver when you turn (just in case I didn’t mention these are important) allowed miss 4 of these during the test but if you miss one and the turn is dangerous you can get a grade three.
      7) when moving off from a curb (uturn or slow ride etc) only need to look straight, right mirror, right indicator, right lifesaver.
      8) check mirrors every 30 seconds on a straight road
      9) always ride in position 2 on straight roads no need to keep avoiding shores or drains as your upright and straight shouldn’t affect the bike apparently. This is only important when the bike is leaned.
      10) if you make a mistake and think you’ve failed just forget about it and keep riding… there’s a chance the tester could be too far back etc. and don’t want to mess up more later.
      Hope these help. I’ve my test tomorrow morning 😄
      I recommend doing a pre-test before your test too… well worth it!

    • @Sully_Ireland
      @Sully_Ireland  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Also check your mirror before you indicate, and check your mirror before you cancel your indicator!

    I can see Harriet getting a lot more confident on the road bike. If she tries that route on the mountain bike once as she said, I think that's going to make her love that Pinarello even more.

  • @Sully_Ireland
    @Sully_Ireland  Před 6 měsíci

    16:16 *Update here* I completed another pre-test after this video and the instructor mentioned you only need to look straight, right mirror, right indicator and right lifesaver in most cases. It would be only in a situation where there was a dangerous bend and cars could be turning in to where your parked would you need an additional left lifesaver. Otherwise it’s not required!

  • @Sully_Ireland
    @Sully_Ireland  Před 6 měsíci

    20:38 *Update here* when moving off here there’s hazards from both the bike lane and traffic merging from the right. You need to safety glance left moving off and right lifesaver to cover the traffic merging in. Hope this helps!

  • @Sully_Ireland
    @Sully_Ireland  Před 6 měsíci

    21:03 *Update here* when moving to the lane three position to avoid bumps don’t touch or cross the solid white line or you could risk a grade 3 fail mark. Also if there is cars approaching and close… consider avoiding the bumps using lane 1.

  • @Sully_Ireland
    @Sully_Ireland  Před 6 měsíci

    *general update* do the speed limit unless it is unsafe to do so (seems like common sense but just thought I’d highlight this)

  • @keithmountaine1
    @keithmountaine1 Před 4 měsíci

    Lad loving this, QQ for me the noob but you mention lifesaver lefts and all that. I have never heard of a lifesaver turn before. I'm guessing it when you don't look at your mirrors and it's over the shoulder?

    • @Sully_Ireland
      @Sully_Ireland  Před 4 měsíci

      You’ll hear loads about them for your ibt!! you check your mirrors and before you turn or change lanes.. you do a glance over your shoulder…the term lifesaver is used cause it could save your life if you fail to see something in your mirror or blind spots e.g. would be when making a right turn a car over takes you or turning left and a cyclist is coming beside you… hope that helps explain 👌🏽

  • @Sully_Ireland

    23:44 *Update here* unless you’re told to stop on the left here, do 60kph or you risk failing for lack of progression.

    I failed mine in this same test centre. Lack of progression was the main cause. The u turn was a disaster also.

    • @Sully_Ireland
      @Sully_Ireland  Před 4 měsíci

      Sorry to hear that! At least you know where you went down and it’s something to work on. You might recall in this video, I practiced my Uturns on tighter smaller residential roads (about a car and a half wide or two parking spaces wide) kept failing at doing them, after a while I got the hang of them in the tighter space but it gave me the confidence to do it on the test day and I thought “look at all the space I have to do this”. Observations are important throughout also. Lack of progression is just about knowing the speed limits of the road you’re on. I was typically at the speed limit and +5kph if it was a long stretch of road. During my test in rosemount business park I was doing 40kph and a car behind the testers car thought the tester was driving slow and overtook him, didn’t see me and nearly hit me. I seen this all in my mirrors and positioned in lane 1 for safety and he told me that the car was dangerous but I handled the situation really well. But that’s why in the video I point out a lot about speeds and stop signs and observations. I’m based in swords… if you ever need a hand or want someone to practice with give me a shout. Would love to help you pass it! Eric Dalton Motorcycle training is brilliant at pre-tests, he taught me everything. I done two (one the week before my test and one the day before my test) they’re €125 per pre test when I did mine but were invaluable!
