This video was great, and a big confirmation to switch my son to Singapore Dimensions!
I had originally chosen Singapore, but decided at the last minute to “stay true” to Charlotte Mason, by using a VERY Charlotte Mason style math. In one week my math loving kindergartener became so frustrated 😢 We just switched to Dimensions a week ago and he’s loving all the games and even the worksheets 😉.
I’m so glad it’s working well for you guys! I love that we have so many options out there to choose from, so there’s bound to be at least one that clicks with every child.

You mean Dimensions Math (which uses the Singapore method)
It gets confusing because there are other programs which also use 'Singapore math' like Primary Mathematics, which is also from the same company

I wanted something simple where they were still practicing skills but getting their confidence back up. So we’ve been using Easy Peasy (the workbook version, not online) at least to finish out this year.
That makes sense. Gotta keep alive that love for math versus pushing through and having too much frustration and burnout. thanks for your response!
This was so so helpful- thank you! We started the year with TGTB simply good and beautiful math 3. I gave up on it within 5 lessons because it was just not working for us. We tried Math Mammoth (which I loved by my daughter didn't) and we're doing Primary math 2022 now. I've been researching Dimensions math for next year but my daughter is not strong at math so I need to really consider if this will be a good fit. I was thinking of doing Dimensions and buying the video lessons from the website to get some help teaching it. I'm definitely interested in what you have switched to and what you think of it.

My son has the same exact problem with TGTB’s pages. He would also skip sections in both the math and LA. I’m so bothered by it that I am using all new programs due to this. Also, he said it’s way too easy. Thanks for the info on Singapore. I’m trying to decide between this, Beast Academy, and Saxon.

I think you might really like CLE (Christian light education) math. It looks pretty boring but it’s actually great! We just switched from TGTB
I did notice that division and multiplication was taught in level 2. Do they review some of that in 3a? Also, thank you for this video
They do! There is a full chapter dedicated to each.
This is too taxing for my daughter. Her skills improve but now she is anxious because she keeps wondering how difficult is this going to be. She enjoys language, art and drama and this is the wrong system for her. My son has no problem with it, but is also taxed afterwards. Makes me wonder if it is worth it, to make them so taxed. I will avoid the challenges until we finish it with my daughter. It's too much
I saw where you have been doing easy peasy to finish out year - have you decided what to do after that? I feel so overwhelmed lol! I have been all over the place with which math to use with my k and 7 year old. We’ve been using tgtb and although they love it for the interactive part games and manipulatives I can just tell they DO not have a thorough understanding. Everyone has said just to supplement but I need an all in one - or they’ll eventually grasp it - but it’s like there is no real depth or deep understanding. We attempted Singapore primary but I felt like all I was doing was talking them and going almost too analytical on how to do simple math that we were just not enjoying it unless we were at the activity portion. Everything I research seems like I find a major con to where I know it won’t work. I do not want to do a ton of switching whjch is why we’ve just gone back to finish tgtb until I feel confident I’m switching to something but it feels like we are just wasting time. mus recommended but I’m nervous it’s too mastery and they will only learn the mus way. I also heard great things about rightstart but with two and eventually 3 kids people say it’s way too teacher intensive and so many people with multiple kids find you don’t have the time. I heard Saxon is boring and kids end up in tears often. I know there are others but it seems like it’s so hard to find something with a balance of mastery and review/spiral that is hands on without being too in depth 🙃
Honestly, I know it’s not popular, but they’re doing well with Easy Peasy. We use the workbook version that’s fully offline with the teacher guide. It’s simple. They’re getting lots of practice. And it’s flexible enough that sometimes we do multiple lessons a day. So for the kids I switched, we’re sticking to it next year.

We have used Saxon. My kids liked it, but I didn't make my kids do everything that was listed. For the older kids I had them do all the even numbers instead of all 30 problems. In the lower grades the worksheet has two sides and my kid only did one side. They didn't do their fact flash cards everyday either.
I am about to buy dimensions. But can't decide between kb or 1a for my Kindergartener. I will be using it as a supplement in a couple of weeks after school and over the summer. But some say dimensions is a little ahead of grade level. You think I should get kb(would this be like teaching math for beginning 1st grade?) instead of 1a (this would be like math for beginning 2nd grade?)
(He is good with math and tested same as a 1st grader towards the end of school year)
If he’s ready for 1st grade math, I’d actually go ahead with the 1A. It’s not too crazy at that level, and the skills are right on target for 1st grade. There is still going to be some challenging material, but you can decide how much or how little to give him. And there’s lots of skill practice with addition and subtraction. The curriculum will go through different ways to solve problems that he may not think of on his own. Some of that can be helpful, and some of it can be a little overwhelming. If there was a certain way to solve that didn’t click well with Arwyn, we just skipped it.

Did you feel that kids that start later, like in 5th grade, can jump into this curriculum if they hadn't used it before?
I haven’t looked at any level above grade 3. So I can’t speak to every level. But my children who were jumping into 3rd grade were able to do it. There was a learning curve since it does stretch your brain much more than the other program they were used to. And it did cause some frustration. Some kids can work past it, but others have a harder time. It really just depends on their number sense and their ability to think algebraically. When jumping in from another curriculum, I would definitely do the placement test just to see where they should be.
Your child that Dimensions worked well for- are you planning to continue using it next year?
I’ve flipped flopped back and forth on it. Seeing later grade levels, I’m not sure if we want to continue with it or not. It’s something I’m in prayer about this summer. And I’ve been looking at different options.

@@smithpartyof6 Hi! We’re going from public school to homeschooling next year when the kids will be in grade 3 and 5. I’d love to know what your thoughts on why looking forward to the older Dimensions levels, why you may not want to continue. I’m researched this and many others. Im definitely leaning towards this one and I’d love to get your opinion and view point :)

Are you still going to use Singapore for this new year???
No I’ve decided to go a completely Charlotte Mason route. We’re doing the Charlotte Mason Elementary Arithmetic Series. It has some of the aspects I like best from several different things we’ve tried. We just started this week, and we’re enjoying it so far. Fingers crossed!
But Singapore is a great program, and I will always recommend it to people who have math-loving children. It’s a program I would have enjoyed and flourished with as a child.

Not liking Singapore at all. Feel like all the different angles can confuse younger kids. My son zoomed through THATB lessons so we wanted to find something challenging and comprehensive. It sure is challenging. To the point where I cry because I can’t explain anymore and he is upset because it’s a lot of confusion. Going to keep looking
