This might be the most enjoyable commercial I've ever watched. Really enjoyed the proportions and welcome more.
As a wildlife photographer, that photography equipment is the cleanest I've ever seen. Im not too happy it was one big advertisement for OM system, but nice video for it.
Probably all loaners/rentals. Ultimately, as much as I prefer larger sensors, for wildlife and reach m43 is pretty nice. The aperture disadvantages are not really a problem there.
I an curious. What do you mean by "cleanest"?

I believe it is important for PetaPixel to clearer show it's an sponsor ad.
Apart from that, I don't mind camera brands making ad's. That's part of making the channel survive financially.
@@amosb1163 The biggest thing that switched me from 4/3 and to full frame is simply resolution. Most brands have a fairly affordable 200-600 lens that can get you nearly to the FOV of a 100-400 on a 4/3 but do it with 60+ mega pixels. Most 4/3 cameras have been stuck at 20 mp and only recently did the G9ii get 24. Having a higher resolution image allows you to crop so much further into the frame while retaining detail. I can say from personal experience that higher resolution FF sensors are just superior for birding when very fast action is not involved. Plus there are other benefits of larger sensors but those get talked to death. Overall if image quality is the most important thing, larger sensor formats will produce better images.
I majored in photography at Montana State University. Spending time, at Yellowstone was quite easy. MSU is just north of Yellowstone National Park. That was 30 years ago. Olympus OM 1, the film camera was my constant companion. To use one of those new OM 1 mk 2 back at Yellowstone
would be a memorable experience.
I liked the video until I realized it was one giant ad 😅
😂
PetalPixel works for free?
Do you?
Well I’m in the minority here. I don’t care that like some commenters say, it’s just a sponsored advert for that brands own equipment. I enjoyed watching it, well put together with some of the most beautiful sharp wildlife images you could wish to see.
Very inspiring video. OM systems and its lens range works well for wildlife. Good to hear and see what it can do from there embasodors.
I, for one, really am enjoying this new content angle. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll die watching and Chris and Jordan video, but the different content style makes me smile.
Had the chance to try and OM1 this week on a club night. The grip is insanely comfortable. But i also have smaller hands just like our Christopher.
The EV was also like looking through my old DSLR. Very tempting to get one.
Living in Utah I can appreciate your zeal for the land...beautiful video, beautiful life.
Nice film, even though it's an ad it was very well done.
I like it. It's an ad. Well so? I loved those DPR videos that were also ads but also showed professionals doing beautiful work. I support more of these.
@seantomlinson3320 Thanks! I loved the DPReview Field Test videos as well. I was lucky enough to be in two of them! Google Michael Bonocore Mongolia and that one should come up. I think the Idaho one was deleted in the initial pre-sale cleaning.
@@MichaelBonocorePetaPixel turns out Idaho shows up - czcams.com/video/gKxwwa2r4_o/video.html but I don't see the Mongolia video. I'm not a Canon shooter (or Olympus) but I like the videos and I remember how much fun that video was was from...6 years ago. We old.
They were superbly produced, but I always felt that the DPR “field test” videos were a bit disingenuous. I like this one because it’s very upfront about it being sponsored, but it was also exceptionally well produced and the story of the photographers and their passion for nature and their art was brought out very well.
Excellent. Great seeing the performance of other brands.
Thanks for the kind words!
The initial bison pictures are great, wished I had 150-400.
I very much enjoyed the video. It was clear from the beginning that it was sponsored by OM System. That's fine, and I use that gear. Would have been better though if the photographers didn't talk about the gear, as that makes it feel like a sales job which automatically turns some people off. Better to show a fine video with excellent results. Everyone can see the gear being used and will make the connection. The results should speak for themselves.
Do you work for free?
I love this video. It shows how rewarding winter wildlife photography is in Yellowston National Park. These are very experienced guides and know how to find wildlife. I have been with Arthur as a guide in Yellowston.
It is clearly stated that this video is sponsored by OM Systems. So you would expect it to have a commercial in it. It is up to each individual to decide how to accept advertising.
I've never been to America, and as an animal lover and terrible photographer, Yellowstone would definitely be high on my list when I eventually visit.
It's an incredible place. Easily one of my favorite locations in the west! Bring lots of thick layers in the winter.
It should probably be on the top spot of your list. If you go in summer, there will be thousands of people there though.
It's the closest place to see what this country looked like before "we" arrived. It's an amazing place for sure. Avoid July and August, it can become one traffic jam after another.
Terrible? What do you shoot with. I have a pretty low keeper rate do to my AF but, there are some tricks that help get the rate up. One is getting to know how to work within the limitations of your equipment if one can’t afford the newest tech. Two, getting to know the wildlife behavior & three, practicing blending in & getting close as possible & safely when it comes to dangerous subjects. Hope you make there, happy shooting & enjoy what’s in your backyard until you do.
Epic job guys! Stoked to see this and spend the same week in the park knowing it was an amazing time to be with wildlife.
Wow, that was a great, long ad.
I thought the video sounded like generic commercial storytelling until I realised it's mostly an ad.
Enjoyed the video, love Yellowstone. The pack of wolves image on the mountain is amazing. Not an OM shooter but they clearly make a good case for the system shooting handheld with really long focal lengths.
Beautifully made at such a majestic location! Hope to get back there again soon and hopefully in winter next time around.
Yes it’s an add. But not the boasting of other vloggers on CZcams. I liked it, somebody always pays for getting such beautiful images in your screen, while you are possibly commenting from your chair. And I fully convinced that the compact MFT system serve best for traveling and wildlife fotography. For me more than enough for what I like to do. I sold my Nikon full frame DSLR kit and look forward to buy something as compact and robust as the OM System.
That was awesome!
Thanks Chris! We appreciate it.
This is a fantastic video that shows the tremendous work and creativity that goes into inspiring story-telling!
Thank you for the kind words!
An impressive video with fabulous photographs! Thanks.
beautiful work!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the reminder that Winter always comes back.
Hey PetaPixel guys, this is a cool video and showed how beautiful yellowstone is. You guys already revealed this is a sponsored content clearly. Although many other viewers criticize about playing this ad, I have totally different opinion. This kind of ad is actually quite interesting and informative. As long as the sponsor is fully disclosed, I personally think playing these kind of ad is triple win. Brand got exposure, you guys got money and viewer could see a high quality ad with beautiful scene in it.
Thank you! We feel the same way. We appreciate the kind words!
I agree with it. Great video and photos! As long as we have Chris and Jordan doing their reviews, these types of videos don't bother me
We don’t follow PetaPixel to watch ads…
@@camron8264 as if somebody is standing behind you with a gun and making you watch it 🤣 Go cry yourself to sleep because you watched a well made video that was promoting OM system and stop complaining
@@camron8264 then send them your money so they don't paid advertisement in the future.
I like the video and didn’t care it was an ad,beautiful place to visit.
Great video, never thought of the OM system gear, may be worth a look.
Love these kinds of adventure videos. Maybe we can do Sigma bodies and Sigma lenses next time just to show our love to Kazuto-san 😀
Thanks! We like that idea as well!
Awesome awesome ! wow, just a tad different to New Zealand, a place that I would dearly love to visit with my OM-1. Out of this world images guys !! Cheers
Thanks so much for the kind words Royce!
If you can get great images with OM system, you can do it with any system. Well done. You are very upfront on the sponsorship on this CZcams post. No worries.
Great video. Thank you
The photography community if so full of crybabies!!! This was a magnificent production. All the people complaining about it being a 14 minute ad missed the entire point of the video. Tiffany successfully combining her love of wildlife and art. The shared camaraderie between her and Arthur. The wildlife set to the stunning backdrop of Yellowstone during a winter snow. Even the B-roll was top notch. A world-class, FREE, presentation and what people focus on was that it was a sponsored video? Give me a break. No other community I'm part of is that cynical. At 37 seconds it's disclosed that this is a Petal Pixel production created in partnership with OM System. It's also mentioned plainly in the description that both shooters are OM System Ambassadors. If the viewer was offended by the fact that people were paid to do their jobs - and subsequently provide free content, BTW - then they should have clicked another video instead of watching this one for 14 minutes and then complain that it was an ad.
Totally agree! And as you point out, the partnership with OM System is clearly mentioned at 37 seconds. People need to stop whining and get a life. The vid is stunning.
Next level, gamechanger
Amazing
Thanks Michael!
Very nice
That was pretty neat.
Thanks Chris! Appreciate it!
This was really great. Hey PetaPixel, please give us more of this type of "in the field" videos from pro's like Tiffany and Arthur. Yes, they were soft-selling OM gear, but despite not being in the market form more gear right now, I found myself saying "Hmmmm....if they can use the OM system in some harsh environments, maybe in the future I'll look more carefully at it" (I just switched from Nikon to Canon....never considered M4/3 as an option).
great video, with very nice images. it shows that you don't need tons of money and a full frame camera system to shoot beautiful images. I enjoyed it.❤👍
Just WOW!!!
Thanks Peter!!!
This is a beautiful video. You fully disclose the sponsorship and brand ambassadors in the description. I think you could have avoided the majority of criticism by revealing the sponsorship in the title such as “OM Systems Presents: Yellowstone in Winter”
Thanks for the kind words David!
At 0:32 right as the video starts there is a huge title that says OM System partnership.
@@the_wiki9408, I see you’re right. Watching on my phone the white letters really weren’t that prominent against the snow. Plus OM Systems sponsors all the PetaPixel videos. This is different from their usual sponsorship.
People would still moan despite the content not costing them a dime.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
More videos like this...❤
I really liked the production, shots are amazing. I only think that the title should be clear that this is sponsored by OM System because this feels like a bait and switch.
I liked the video a lot though, also at 4:40 we can all say LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL BIRD, JORDAN! 😂
He only dislikes crows and ravens.
Nice video! I love Yellowstone/Grand Tetons but have never been there in the winter.
Thanks for watching. It is incredible. I highly recommend you put it on your bucket list for next winter.
@@MichaelBonocorePetaPixel I would, but my wife not so sure.
Beautiful images, …and the Sigma lens has always been a good one…😏
Beautiful to see. Ofc it is biased but i love it anyways.
Beautifully filmed but it is an advertisement and this should have been more clearly displayed in the video, for example “Petapixel and OM System presents”.
And then what?
It says it at the 37-second mark "... in partnership with OM System".. And yep, it's filmed beautifully - would be lovely to visit there one day.
Interesting place
So being from Florida wondered if you were near Ana Maria Island. We’re heading to Yellowstone again this summer.
Can't fault OM Systems for trying. 🤷 Cool footage.
Is it a 14 minute add for the OM1 m-ii? Yes, but damn those are some incredible shots. I have the OM1 m-1 and the 100-400 and very happy with the results. But this, wow! I doubt that I will ever be able to afford the 150-400 Pro, but maybe the 150-600 will be something I can buy used in few years.
Thanks for the kind words!
Excellent production - inspiring thank you! its way more than an ad - I disagree!
I am totally into OM System and use a lot of their gear. But this ad is so on the moose, I cannot bear it. (I will not apologize for that pun!)
In the early days of television, before ads were separated from shows and run on their own, it wasn't too dissimilar from this video. So an advertorial, or whatever you call it, like this, has been around for ages. Would I have preferred no hype at all? Sure. But someone has to pay for a production like this. So I just tuned out the hype and enjoyed the images and footage. Still nicely done.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it Joel!
You’re welcome. Well deserved.
Was the video shot on the OM-1 Mark II as well?
OM knows exactly who their target audience is, and they lean into that. I am a longtime Olympus shooter, and this is exactly why I continue to use it. The portability is a real advantage if you hike with your camera, and I speak from experience.
They need to make a few firmware tweaks to make this camera and the OM-1 before it into true video powerhouses. It wouldn't take much.
Why just let Panasonic have all the independent filmmakers? Give them some tougher competition in video.
Thanks for the kind words Daniel! Yes, all the video (minus drone shots) was filmed on the OM-1 Mark II
Cool doc
Thanks! Tiffany and Arthur are naturals, and their passion for wildlife photography is infectious. It was an incredible experience!
@@MichaelBonocorePetaPixel Glad to hear. I would only recommend mentioning this is more an ad in the title. Some people might find it disingenuous. Really nice to see the real usage of the new lens and ND filter.
@@BrownieX001 Yeah that grad ND feature is pretty awesome. And the reach on the 150-600 is insane! We wouldn’t have been able to get those wolf running clips otherwise.
I think this kind of content could have been produced by peta pixel but should have landed on OM system’s main CZcams page. Peta pixel really didn’t get to tell a story here and it’s basically just a cool ad for OM system. I know you got to eat but it hurts the consistency of the channel. The Ohio trip that Jordan and Chris took recently is in stark contrast to this video. I mean the video doesn’t even have peta pixel folks in the video, just OM system ambassadors
If only Pentax could sponsor PetaPixel then I would be watching a video of a couple of people with their Pentax cameras phographing winter wildlife in Yellowstone 🙏
Where's Chris and Jordan? 😊
Yellowstone was too cold for them.
@@vitaminb4869 Unlikely, they live in Canada.
@@Jeeve_StobsAbsolutely! We’ve been there in the winter and it is both lovely and warm compared to Canada.
Its them dont you recognise??
Pre-burst is a true game changer for birds and other wildlife. Shots I was missing with my Sony A9 and GM zooms I am easily getting with my lumix G9II and Leica zooms. Sony still wins with AF speed and tracking but I have found the lumix just more enjoyable to go out with and at the end of the day bring home more keepers. Being 1/3 of the weight of my Sony with 200-600 after a few hours doesn’t hurt
(Literally) my body either.
People who are upset this is sponsored by OM would be delighted if it was instead sponsored by Sony :)
I wish you well with your channel, we all need to pay bills and live. As a wildlife and landscape photographer when I saw the title I was excited. However it is about the photographers and the OM system, not really about the uniqueness of Yellowstone. It would be great if you could use your sponsorship to make a real wildlife documentary of that amazing National Park. Most of us aren't into quarter of an hour adverts really...Sorry.
At the end of the film, they should have placed Chris' "Meh" face with a speech bubble that says "...it is nothing but a rebranded Sigma lens" 😊
What a wonderful life Tiffany and Arthur have, living their dream and taking such beautiful photographs. Thanks and I hope you revel in your free adventurous life 😀
Thanks for watching! They do have some pretty cool lives, and their wildlife photographs are incredible!
14 minute ad with nice imagery
Yeah, but when's S5 Part 2 of Yellowstone coming out???
Yellowstone serves as a window into a past that never existed-or at least hadn't existed for thousands of years before human migration from Asia. Hundreds of years ago (as the voice over at the beginning says) Yellowstone was land cared for and lived on by the indigenous peoples of North America: the Cheyenne, Eastern Shoshone, and Crow people, depending on where and when.
Brothers' gotta eat 😊
If OM system spent as much money on advertising as they did on products maybe they would have phase detect auto focus 🤷♂️ just saying.
Otherwise absolutely gorgeous video, amazing photos hats off to the photographers they smashed it.
Olympus/OM System cameras have had phase detect autofocus for over a decade, starting with the E-M1
@@PetaPixelI apologise I am clearly going mad 🤦♂️
Still would be nice to see a new m10 though…. Any news on this…
For those of us that are wildlife photographers and longtime OM System (Olympus) camera users, this isn't an ad. It's a testimony to making the right choices in equipment. The 150-600 is an incredible lens with the EM1X and the OM-1 cameras. I really enjoyed watching Arthur and Tiffany.
If they wouldn't just list the key specs of the camera as if reading it of a literal spec sheet it would be so much easier to listen to them.
Someone make sure Jordan sees the shot at 4:39...pretty cool shot of a raven!
Boo!!!
- Jordan
Play the video for nice video and photos of the animals but leave the audio of the commercial off.
Makes me want go back to Yellowsrone. But I’m all SONY….this video isn’t gonna change that.
please more national park sponsored videos
Loved this !
Thanks for the support!
Really enjoyed this! Nice personal approach. Good to hear about the cameras used and glad for the support of OM System. I hope to see more travel features. I’d like to hear more about camera settings used.
Thanks alot John! We appreciate it.
Great material. I appreciate it really.
By the way, are you planning to publish tests of the latest Lumix update?
Thanks for the kind words! I will let Jordan and Chris answer the Lumix update question :)
I subscribed to this channel to see Chris and Jordan do mostly unbiased reviews, not this 14 minute ad.
Wildlife is great, but if MFT is going to really survive (they can only sell so many massively overcharged bodies and rebranded lenses before even the limited wildlife niche gets fed up with it and just uses one of the small FF high resolution systems and crops in with a smaller lens to probably get more resolution and more reach) they need to bring back lenses like the PanaLeica 15mm f1.7 and other tiny high quality primes on mid-tier to enthusiast grade small bodies sized like the OM-5, Pen F, GX9, or even the GX100 if it had specs on par with the OM-5 (pref OM-5.ii that will be the OM-1 mark I JR if it does release). Make it a leica-like experience with tiny, high quality primes on small but well-built bodies that people can actually afford.
I use MFT for work, shooting lifestyle portraits and other photojournalism. I've used it for years, but it's getting harder for me to not just use my fp L or S1R full-time when I can use compact Sigma primes on either and either use crop-mode to start with or crop in later to achieve the same or further reach than if I used my E-M5.iii, G9, etc. The E-M5.iii and Oly 75mm f1.8 package has carried me, allowing me to shoot authentic portraits across rural villages in East/Southeast Asia without being a distraction to the subject or those around me. My fp L lets me accomplish pretty much the same non-intrusive photography while offering the ability to have the wider shot, increased lowlight, etc. all in a package the same size or smaller.
My side camera I have set up for wider shots is either an E-P5+17mm f1.8, Pen-F+15mm f1.7, or another E-M5.iii+20mm f1.2 depending on the climate/weather. People love these 3 camera bodies everywhere I go. Meanwhile, when I go out with wildlife photog friends with my gear that's more of a higher end hobby level (I'm not buying the omega expensive primes and zooms, including the new overpriced Sigma) they kind of give the MFT gear a weird look. They don't dislike them, and everyone agrees there are advantages, but pretty much all of those advantages, even for wildlife, have dried up as other manufacturers catch up. As such, I see a lot of A7RIV, A7RV, Z9's, etc. My work partner has swapped over to MFT for most of her work, using my E-M1.iii I gave her along with an OM-5. There's room for more than just telephoto, it's just not one where you can slap an OM-Sys logo on a Sigma nd charge 1K more for it.
Cool ad but absolutely nobody’s paying $10k for that 300-800mm f9 setup 🤣🤣
Well my friend just did and he sold his 600mm F4 RF Canon lens in exchange. Of course, he would stay on with the big lens and the R5 or I would have liked to use Z9 with 400mm 2.8 with the built in TC but as we get older thing changes.
The CA on the sequence of bald eagle shots looked a bit shit. Looks like OM glass isn't that great
Was it filmed in OMlog 400 or HLG ?
Thanks for the comment, It was shot on OMlog 400
I feel like an actual more clear ad highlighting OM features would probably be less abrasive to people since they wouldn’t feel like they’re being tricked in any way. I’m not really sure. I’m very anti-corporate in general so it’s hard to tell what would be more acceptable to me. Maybe this style since I like the photographers and the way they make a story of this trip, where it’s not as in your face.
And then there’s the conflicted part, where I do really believe in Micro Four Thirds and want people to be aware of its benefits, so I can accept more of this type of thing from OM than I could from other companies. Photography is always about compromises. About horses for courses. There’s no one best system, and unfortunately a lot of people have gone down that incorrect path of thinking. Maybe stuff like this can inform a few people. It’d be worth it in that case.
Where's Chris and Jordan and the other fella
Nice shots but really it's just an ad.
#ad and a bit of corny one at that.
0:20 Ya lost me at "seen her with their own eyes"
I get that you have to pay this bills etc, but this felt so forced as in the "story telling" nothing wrong with an ad but 14mins long...
Were you flying a drone in shot 0:18, 0:39, & 1:27?
It is incredibly illegal to fly drones in National Parks.
Love this channel and I understand you guys need sponsers to surivive and pay billls, but this video feels wrong... Like its hard to envision a partnership like this not subconsciously altering opinions and wording in non sponsered content, even if its just on a micro level. Regardless I'll hop off my soap box now, overall you guys are doing great work keep it up!
PS I would love to see more of these docu series shorts you guys are making. Like the Idaho video!
Did you even read the description? Use what's left of your brain, man.

Why are they using a full frame lens on a sensor that's a quarter of the area?
Using Olympus as a professional photographer is like beeing a butcher with just a wooden blade
My OM System 150-400mm arrived decentered. They refused to warranty the repair. The reason they gave for denying the repair was that it is normal and "within spec" for the lens to be decentered. I find this to be unacceptable for a lens that costs $10,000.
I understand that they've moved manufacturing of this lens from Japan to Vietnam, so there may be some growing pains and hiccups as they ramp up production. However, if a product does come off the line defective and decentered, they should make it right. After all, this isn't a $200 kit lens. This is their flagship, most expensive lens that they're pushing marketing everywhere. It costs $10,000. I saved up for a long time to finally get this lens, and I am extremely disappointed by this.
If OM System wants to make this right, please reach out to me. I have been a long time supporter of your system. I took the risk (against all my peers' advice of investing into a "questionable new ownership" of what was Olympus) and invested into my dream lens.
Please make this right.
My lens is still under warranty.
This is the reason why I switched to Sony. I spent thousands on Olympus gears like em1mk2 and 300mm f4. The term "With-in Spec" was often used in Korea as well until they closed up shop and left. Terrible way to treat customers. Sell your gears and move on. Small sensor, small mind.
Damn that’s criminal
So the thing about micro four thirds is that you double the depth of field as well as the focal length. So 600/6.3 is 1200/12.6 - and that will make backgrounds fall away, ideal for wildlife. But good luck separating at shorter focal lengths with cheaper lenses.
The lower end of what Olympus was had deep problems with ISO performance. ISO performance from OM systems has improved to where APS-C was 6 years ago, but eventually that improvement will reach the limit of what a smaller sensor can do due to the signal to noise ratio.
The maximum MP on the sensor is also limited. If you need maximum detail, micro four thirds is not the one for you. Multi-shot can only take you so far, and it's for landscape, not for the decisive moment.
That said, lovely pictures in this infomercial 😂
I've been to a few club panel competitions and no judge has every commented on lack of megapixels. In fact most pros I know are still on their older dslr bodies with 12 or 16 megapixels. It's the pixel peeping armatures who get hung up on the technicalities so much.
@larrychicco1062 I know a handful of photographers who work professionally, and none of them use a camera with resolution that low. Not that that isn't enough resolution, but DSLRs that old won't have good enough AF outside of the studio, and inside the studio they'd rather have more resolution and colour depth. Funnily enough, all but one use late Nikon full frame DSLRs which I've never really gotten on with - no complaints about the image quality though.
Guarantee all the gripes are coming from DP review forum users , those folk love a good moan. 😂
Haha, so true. DP Review forum used to be a swamp. Lots of "old man yells at clouds" and the next phase of the 90's PC crowd, constantly comparing clock speeds.
