Mullets look good with wavy and mild curly hair. Heavy curls are too dense, their natural flow will be disturbed by a modern mullet + fade.
The Jay-Jo cut is supposed to be sleek. Dense curly hair risks falling victim to the broccoli-effect. Which would make the mullet look poofy, rather than falling back sleekly.

I completly disagree that mullet doesnt work in curly or coily hair. textuarism is a problem that affects mostly black people and by saying that we exclude people with this speciifically hair texture from the trand. i believe everyone should do everything that makes them feel better and nice about having it instead of creating rules of what looks good or not. But in the overall, i love mullet and I have curly hair and I used to rock them in 2013/14.

Yeah I tried the Jay Jo on my curly/wavy hair and it just didn't work. All I really changed was making it a high taper instead and it was perfect. Next I'll be trying a low taper and seeing what happens when I grow out the rest.
A decent mullet takes time to grow, But this hairstyle is still in it's infancy here in America...most people still are wearing the previous decades hairstyle especially if they are over age 29, it will take a while before this is more widely worn.
The 80s mullet is still good in certain situations

Sea salt spray first. Scrunch. Air dry. Then apply a very small amount of clay to hold. Not too much or it’ll weigh it down

People saying mullets from before were decent, but nah, there’s a reason why a certain character archetype was developed and an over exaggerated version of the mullet was used. Todays mullet with the help of webtoon clearly gives off a more modern look to it, as the back portion of the hair doesn’t flow down and is clearly cut shorter.
