My grandmother had the entire set of this furniture, including, beds, dressing table, mirris, stool, armoire, dresser and night stands. I love it all. Went to another relative who lost it all in a house fire!😢

I do a lot of full restorations but sometimes a bit of paint on lesser quality wood (and especially plastic laminate coated wood, or Formica) can keep something structurally sound from being tossed just because it’s a bit rough or dated cosmetically. But I like to restore certain woods whenever possible. 🙂
I love you for this. I'm an Art Deco nut, and I had to stop watching other "restoration" videos when they'd totally cannibalize the original into something "updated" and unrecognizable. I'm generally against push-latches (they're usually a cheap cop-out from finding appropriate hardware)...but the reasoning behind using them in this instance was perfection! It allowed you to use the original, beautiful hardware and actually emphasized the verticality of the cabinet veneer. Gorgeously done faux bois work, as well!!!
This brings back a lot of memories. My parents had a dresser exactly like this with the mirror. You did a beautiful job. Thank you for preserving such an outstanding piece of furniture!

Angie, you have created another restored masterpiece. I love the dark stain over a lighter one. It gives the desk a regal air, which is befitting of such a noble piece. I was happy that you were able to reuse the hardware on the drawers and use the magnetic latches for the doors. Overall a stunning transformation !

Your precious fur babies melted my heart. We have 4 at our house. We only had 1 until someone we know called to.say he was having to move but since no one wanted them he would just put them outside. It was February at the time. So that's where the other 3 came from. We love our fur babies. I can't imagine a day without them❤

I have no issue with people doing that. This would be hard to sell because it's not usable as a desk. It's a vanity, so only a vanity bench can be used. It’s only 27” high. It’s why so many of these end up in the trash. If a piece can be reused as nightstands instead being useless and discarded, I’m all for that.
Thank you for having the vision to bring back such an iconic piece of furniture. My grandmother had one similar. I didn't appreciate it as a child but would treasure it today. Wow, I had a desk like this when I was a kid (1950's) but mine was painted an ivory and had bakelite shell pulls. I like that you went the extra mile and restored it to a stain instead of just painting it. I used mine as a desk to do my homework, as well as my nails at times. . My niece now has it in her house and takes good care of it. You did an excellent job at restoration and is very impressive. You are a true crafts "man" and your attention to detail is what makes this restoration a real quality piece. Good job !

Along with your creative painting one of the things I seriously appreciate is the way you explain the problems you encounter and how you decide to address them! Every piece of furniture I've attempted to "rescue" has confronted me with its own peculiar issues -- and then defied every attempt to work around (for example) latches refusing to close (or open), damaged drawer tracks, badly done repairs, lifting laminate reattached with... is that model airplane glue??? (yep, not kidding) and literally MILES of duct tape intended to be -- I hope -- temporary but left in place for years.
THANK YOU for showing us how you solve (ab)used furniture problems and giving me the inspiration to save another "work of art" from the bonfire!

I guess if it was handy it's what the former owner used? Whatever the reason, the glue failed its assignment miserably.

Well it hasn't stopped raining here since June - we've had issues on the other end of the spectrum with flooding and washouts. What a weird summer Nova Scotia had!
