The gas tank on my CB project bike has a dent on the rear side that I attempted to repair with a paintless dent puller that I picked up from Harbor Freight tools for cheap.
Here is the process I went through to try to remove, or at least, partially repair the dent. The rule of "you get what you pay for" reared its ugly head here, as the dent puller that only cost me $13.00 pretty much failed to do much of anything. It might be fine for small dings in your car door, but unfortunately I used every last bit of the glue that came with the kit so I won't be able to try that theory. Maybe I was being too optimistic and should have tried to work from the edge toward the center of the dent, I'm not real sure. The glue didn't stick well enough to really try anyway. It might have helped a little bit, but the dent is still there.

I use wooden dowels with two screws in either side. Works alot better than this pos. Glue on multiple dowels, tap on the crown and pull little by little. It will worl but you just might have to heavy a crown, to break a dent out you need to release the pressure from the crown(where the crease is) so the dent can be pulled easier

There is snow on the ground outside, maybe heat the tank first with heat gun and clean/scuff adapter before gluing?

I did clean the adapter multiple times during trying this, I think the problem was the adhesive itself. I think there is quite a difference between harbor freight and what professionals use.

I brought one also. Doesn't work, but for the money your willing to try it.The problem is it isn't worth anything.

I could possibly see it working for small dings or dents in a car door or other flat surface, but on the curve of the gas tank it was a no-go.

I have a good family friend that has a body shop. I think I am going to take it to him to have it pulled out.

Nick Johnson. That's probably a good idea..you could do it yourself but your friend will do it quicker and you'll be happy
I've been doing this for years its just 2nd nature to me..I try to teach others how to do it so they can do it their self ..and have
      fun doing it..good day friend..

That dent is far too tight for a glue pull, that will have to be worked from the inside

I took the tank to a friends body shop for proper repair and paint, not 100% sure what method was used but you're correct, this tool just wasn't up to the task like it needed to be.
