Nah, he just overlooked a few things. Like the princess, who wants to rule a kingdom and has hopefully studied economics, not understanding that you need to pay for things in the marketplace. She didn't forget. She was legit confused about it.

So fun fact, the theatre I work at is doing Aladdin for the panto this year, and they're making a fully animatronic, stage high snake. Our theatre is not a theatre with a massive budget, but based on the animatronic they had last year, that snake will look amazing.
And what did Disney do, with their $183 million budget? Made four people float in the air for a couple of minutes. What. The. Fuck.

I personally would add a sin for that way to young looking Jafar. In the Original, he was a "Street Rat" like Aladdin, sat in prison for a few years and "worked" his way up the Sultans one and only councellor
@@Anthyrion Yeah - there's not even a "But you're so old" line which is why the Sultan was originally against them getting married. Because he was WAY TOO OLD. Here he's young - sure he might be older than her but ... eh it's not the same.
@@Crow_Smith Yeah. That movie was mostly like the other Real Life Disney Movies. It never came near the greatness of the original. I have to admit, Will Smith not trying to copy Robin Williams style but making his own thing was nice. The end was way to much Bollywood for me. The songs seemed mostly out of place and just for the fact, that Disney Movies must've a song in it

very basic idea that if he's been stealing since he was a kid, and he's STILL stealing when we see him at the age he was in the animated movie...he was basically JUST a thief then as well.
The animated movie is just that. Animated and therefore the elements are focused on glossing over nuances that makes kids think on that level. Live action is all about putting in nuances so that we get a full 3d perspective on the characters

@@DarkWestern actually, what's presented in the movie didn't reuire too much thought. It was simply adding scenes where you see him trying to trade his loot, and the little bit of pride he had at being good at what he does, that made the audience put too much thought in it.
A few scenes extra to help bring his character to flesh, and people are going crazy talking about how he's just a soules thief

I feel like when they do these remakes they make it so cheesy. Aladin was perfect for a Guy Ritchie type movie. Like gritty, the danger is real but fun. I mean in the original a guy screams as he's eaten by a sand tiger in first part of the movie. In Lion king, we see Simba discover his dad's dead body and then his uncle literally says "kill him" to the hyenas. In Mulan, "how many men does it take to deliver a message?" In Pocahontas "Stay away from him! He killed him!" These movies knew how to make us care about what the characters are going thru. The remakes feel watered down & silly. I reeaaallly thought Jon Faverau and Guy Ritchie would've made live actions with the same balance of fun and danger.

Meh, it’s inevitable. Disney has to use their IPs to keep them from going into public domain. Should be common knowledge at this point. Plus Nostalgia Money. Easy wins for everyone, not like they forced you to watch it and they didn’t take the old one away so I don’t get this criticism.

Can we sin the fact Aladdin hides the lamp when he "rubs" it in the cave. In the original, he uses his charisma and wit to trick the Genie into proving that he is as powerful as he says. In this version, it's like a child crossing their fingers behind their back when they make a promise, more deceitful and dishonest than clever.
It’s still clever. It’s a wish, but less of a cheats way to get it free.

It's so true. I still miss Robin like crazy. It's been years, and I still remember crying when my sister called to tell me he had passed away. He WAS a force of nature. I like Will Smith too, but no one could have taken on this role and topped Robin. Will Smith was probably the only good answer with his charisma and charm, but it is just not the same. It never will be the same.
When Robin died I had friends over and we watched everything I had with Robin, including What Dreams May Come and Ferngully, as a memorial service. We all cried

I really wish they chose a more charismatic older actor to play Jafar. The one thing about Jafar was even though he was evil. He was still funny, and he had a kind of slick evil charismatic sarcasm to him.

The fact that the Jafar reprise of “Prince Ali” that was cut for Jazmine’s song deserves a sin.
Her song felt unnecessary and out of left field. I understand the push for non damsel in distress princesses but it was not well placed.

The Prince Ali Reprise was what I wanted not some janky half-concocted “power” ballad bellowed hoarsely at a bizarre point in the movie that completely took you out of the moment. I mean, if you have to squeeze in an ill advised song just to prove that your movie is about girl power then maybe you should go back to the drawing board and rework a few things.
Ceciley Noel Right? I never doubted Jasmine’s independence in the original! She was still a strong Disney Princess. We didn’t need this song, and cutting a song from the original is awful. And I love Prince Ali Reprise! But instead we get singing about not being silenced or whatever.
And honestly, it's pretty weird to put in a female empowerment song in a movie that takes place in old-timey Saudi Arabia...

Yes !!! the genie in the original Aladdin feel so much more loving and kind hearted and really loves Al 🥹, but Will Smith brought a kind of sarcastic Condescending tone to genie that didn’t translate well. I totally caught that too.
I watch this movie at least once a month.

13:34 Actually, the genie can have two masters if the previous master hasn't made all three of his wishes yet which is the case for Aladdin. As long as he hasn't made his wishes the Genie still considers Aladdin to be his master so I'd say this isn't against the genie code at all.
Does it bother anyone else that this Aladdin seems very well off with his outfit. In the cartoon, he had a vest, pants, and a hat, that's it. Here, he's got a whole outfit, like he's on Project Agrabah or something.

jasmines song was so aggravating bc shes singing about how they wont keep her quiet but princess jasmine was literally one of the most outspoken disney princesses of her era.

Actually female sultans were surprisingly common. There was even the council of sultanas that was a group of female rulers who banded together and practically ran things and manipulated their sultan counterparts into doing their bidding. There were also three female sultans who refused to take the title sultana and insisted on taking the more male associate title of sultan. (Which primarily worked because they were the only heir to the previous sultan, just like jasmine.)

Fun fact: Female Sultans did exist in real world Sultanates. They were referred to as Sultanas, though at least one was famous for refusing the title Sultana because she didn't want her title to be different from the male Sultans.
This has the same energy as the first Disney version of Mulan, which made the laws unnecessarily sexist for conflict when, in the original legend, there was no problem with a woman joining the Chinese military. Her family in the original legend was actually supportive of her going off to fight in the war.

Domesticated tigers actually ARE a thing though... if you raise them as a cub to be reliant on humans, they'll see humans as their master.
There's always the potential risk that their wild instincts will randomly kick in, but it's no where near guaranteed as Jeremy is suggesting.

10:20 EXACTLY lot of times people give credit to the remakes that they don't deserve because they're literally thinking of the original. I felt "emotions" during the lion king, despite Mufasa sounding like not giving a damn while being betrayed by Scar (yes, James Earl Jones is old i get it, but still) or Simba's emotionless face when they recreated the now iconic "vertigo effect" when Mufasa gets killed, i was had chills because i was thinking of the original, the remakes have almost no merits of their own.
There is a considerable difference between the description for the original Aladdin and this one, in terms of how much he likes it. Yet for some reason, Jeremy, the original has 105 sins. WHY DOES THIS ONE ONLY HAVE 102?!
The worst part about this movie is that they never recast Gilbert Gottfried as Iago.
I think I prefer this, it's more realistic and the cartoony vibes I've already gotten put me off enough.
Finally somebody agrees with me! Illago is a great character in Aladdin because of Gilbert Godfried

8:32 it shows that the genie is not just a genie, and that he was born into some fate he couldnt escape, but it trying to change. This is a constant theme we see with characters throughout the movie. It is also fun to watch.
