Nice, I know you were big on those games. I was only even kinda into the origina Mana game when we got it in the States on Super NES. But its kinda redundant to have both a beginner AND Easy mode. It shoudl only ever be Easy, Normal , Hard, and Nightmare ( or Hell beyond that/ Impossible lol).
@@screwthenet unfortunately the difficulty settings are worthless. At least for the demo, every difficulty setting is the same, the combat design is flawed in a way where you can never get hurt. Meanwhile the original you couldn't dodge anything. In the remake, you can dodge every enemy skill. It went from one extreme, to the opposite extreme. And this makes the remake far too easy.... Difficulty is pointless if every attack is shown with red circles you can just walk out of.

The summer of 1994 was the summer i spent 3 months playing Secret of Mana on the SNES. Best summer ever.
So glad they put way more effort into this than the Secret of Mana Remake. Can't wait to play the full game next month, and what an amazing month that will be. First FF7 Remake and then this, nostalgia overload.
Gharon for me, it was really telling how ALL of Secret Of Mana’s charm is in the details. The “remake” kept all of the structure but somehow lost all of the soul along the way. And in looking at side by side screens, it’s easy to tell that it’s the small pixel-details like paint for king off of signs and houses that make the world feel charming, you wouldn’t think that would matter, but it makes all the difference in the world.

Tien Simon I think JazGalaxy meant the Secret of Mana remake not the Trials of Mana remake. I’m playing SoM remake right now and it feels like a cheap mobile game.
I agree, everything about this is better than the SoM remake. I think the most telling for me was the way the soundtrack was handled here was leagues better than they way it was handled in SoM remake. Very regrettable because SoM is way more of a nostalgia bomb than SD3 specifically for me. Would have loved for SoM to have come out like this too.
The game is really good based on the demo. I feel it's a one-to-one transition from 2D to 3D, as Johnny points out. It doesn't try to hard and delivers perfectly. They could remake Chrono Trigger like this. Sort of budget but true to the source material.

Oh God yes! I’d love a Chrono Trigger Remake in this style! It doesn’t need a AAA remake like FFVII or it’ll take 6 years to make (or more if they chop it into parts like in FFVIIR). I also don’t think a FFVII like Remake for CT will ever be in the cards because that game’s popularity (or lack of thereof). Sure CT is popular amongst a niche of gamers but it never reached even a fraction of the mainstream appeal and following that FF in general (or FF7) reaches.

@TroubadorPoet problem is radical dreamers was the actual "sequel" to chrono trigger, and it's actually a prequel to chrono chross, problem is radical dreamers was a super different style of game in comparison to CT... in radical dreamers magus is even present, looking for schala but he has amnesia, and he is actually not sure what he is looking for. In chrono chross this same char is present( I think his name was guile, a magician that wears a mask, confirmed by the developers that he was supposed to be magus, cause he had amnesia and was looking for something, he was not sure of), but for sooome stupid reason, the developers decided he was not going to be magus anymore.... that alone would had connected CT and CC, so much smoothly , not so indirect and barely at the end, like CC did...
Imagine if they did this with Final Fantasy VI... This looks amazing!

It will eventually happen. The game is cherished to the point of being overrated. They will remake it.
Man I love watching your videos! Your enthusiasm is contagious! So many CZcamsrs have this monotone sound with no character or passion, but you're a natural in front of the camera.
Been playing SD3 since I discovered emulation as a teenager and from what I've seen so far in the demo, they stayed faithful to the original. From map layouts, to npc dialogue, the sound effects and even tiny little details like the dancing shop owners. I'm really happy that they didn't screw up with remastering the soundtrack like they did with SoM. It sounds amazing, I'm loving this remake. I can't wait for the full release!

This's so great! I'm gonna be trying the demo out on Steam. I know there's been some issues in the past with ports, and while I'll be playing the demo on PC I might swap to PS4 if it releases with issues. I'm still hoping for the HD treatment of Legend of Mana as well; if so, I hope it retains the watercolor aesthetic.
It's almost weird how this one turned out. In most remakes, it feels like a whole new world but with the original game's coat of paint. Here, it's like they literally took the original game, and dropped the camera down behind the character and gave everything a spitshine. The houses LOOK like the sd3 houses. The trees look the same, the enemies all look the same. This turned out so much better than the preview videos made it seem. It's even more fun when you don't just bumrush enemies and heal through it. Getting the 10% bonus exp modifier for not taking any damage is really rewarding. Unfortunately though, tuning your senses like this makes the game way too easy even on hard. It feels strange to me that fullmetal hugger can go down without the player taking a single point of damage.
I felt the same about the difficulty, but I'm sure later down the line it will be harder... I hope. So far the only differences in difficulty seemed the enemy HP only.
@@YYorle They might inflict more damage too, I'm not sure. I haven't been able to test this since (God I'm going to sound arrogant) I don't get hit to find out. But the game is designed with ample warnings to avoid all damage, and crowd control is quite simple to pull off.

Greg Jones The final trailer shows that Zable Fahr does a seemingly unavoidable attack. I say seemingly because there's a chance you could perfect dodge it. Anyways, my point is I feel pretty positive that they'll escalate the difficulty in a pretty reasonable way.
it's a remake that stays true to it's original form.

I absolutely loved the demo. The gameplay was fun, visually it's beautiful and the updated music is amazing (also the PC version is great!)
It's not the same type of game, but the demo gave me some similar vibes to Dragon Quest XI.

Something that grabbed my attention.. original & arranged soundtrack are selectable. With various remakes, that crucial part is left out or made dlc. This is a gem to keep the sound design intact, and arranged soundtrack sounds marvelous.
I have only played the original Secrets of Mana. But knowing 3 is finally getting a release everywhere, that is so cool 😍

I remember finding it and playing on emulator...thing that caught me was the amount of options for character advancement. First game got stuck looked up walkthrough and realised my team and class choices screwed me....start again.

Despite owning Collection of Mana, I actually haven't gotten around to playing the original Trials of Mana (backlog blues, my dude) but I jumped right on this demo and I absolutely adored every moment of it. The game is gorgeous, the soundtrack fills my ears with joy and I had a lot of fun with the combat, I especially love all the attention to detail.
Also my mom, who is also a fan of games and watched me play a bit of Secret of Mana, actually cheered when she saw that the store clerks were still dancing xD

Started this demo yesterday & I have to say I love it. Love the way it looks & sounds. I haven’t played any of the previous games but I’ll be buying this for sure.
Kinda weird that the same company can release both a super faithful remake with Trials of Mana as well as a brand new game disguised as a remake with the FFVII Remake within a month from each other. Just goes to show how much different development teams can be even within the same company.

Loving the demo been playing it so much. my First completed demo save was a little over 4 hours. Can't wait for this game. so much fun. am starting multiple saves with different main characters. love it so much.
Same. It has been my most anticipated game since it was shown at E3 last year. Try to get Holy Bolt with Angela by putting training points into spirit and beating the boss but don't follow the nav point to finish the demo. Test it out on enemies in the cavern.

Totally. I think they kinda dropped the ball with Secret of Mana, but the source material of SD3 is so much richer to work with. All round better game

I'm roughly half way through the demo and I'm loving it. I get the feeling it's going to draw me in in the same way as Ys VIII. I have never played a Mana game but this is top of my list now for April even above FF remake.

I recently tried the demo on the Switch and I while I enjoyed it I also noticed that it has some framerate issues and the graphics look noticeably less sharp and more blurry. I hope they can fix the framerate issues before release or soon after with a patch.
To my shame I've had the Collection on switch since launch but haven't played it yet.

Great video! I’ve just finished Dragon Quest XI, loved it and miss playing it so this has come along at the perfect time for me. It looks awesome.
I played this game when it was shared with me nearly 20 years ago when I was still a kid. It was awesome then, but times have changed and so have I.
I think they've done a wonderful job translating the aesthetics of the art and characters into a new game, but I disagree in stringently keeping game play elements the same. It's in this that we should see innovation, or it's less a reason to play a "new" game instead of watching a simple and fun movie or playing the old one. In taking these environments to 3D and greater scale with more movement options, they inherently make the game easier when the original wasn't difficult if you had played similar games before. People have only seen early stages of the game, but it concerns me. I don't need the game to challenge me to enjoy it, but I still want a test that's dynamic with its space and options. There's room to be engaging when keeping with its themes. I don't want my only struggle to be patience. That will have been a failure. People should expect greater things from games now. Ideas like punishing a player for using their strong attacks (or playing Angela) with counters that incentivize simpler game play shouldn't fly now. Time will tell. No pre-order from me.
There's also two obvious points of game play criticisms that I feel they've really missed opportunities with. There doesn't seem to be any good QoL menu options for quick casting frequent skills without pausing. This could have gone a long way to aiding one of the best things this game had going for it - being a multiplayer RPG - which seems to be absent.
I spent a lot of time myself with the original game and this feels sooo amazing! I finished the demo on the Switch version and then played a little of the PS4 version this morn and the Switch version really hold its own! I will be getting it on Switch for sure! :D
I was gonna get it for my Switch too but I love how good it looks and runs on the PS4. The 60fps is perfect for an action rpg game like this.
Of course Switch has portability but to me that’s not a big deal.

Loved playing Trials of Mana… the music, battles and stories are so on point!
I've played through the Snes version via emulation. It's fantastic. And this looks like they did a great job. Almost looks like Dragon Quest 7 or 8? The one on PS2. On a side note I'm having a great time with Phantasy Star Online 2. You should play it with me sometime if you get a chance with all the new life changes going on.

unfortunately the need to read doesnt help me ignore the terrible cut scenes this game has. They look way too much like jump force cut scenes except they at least move there mouths. Unreal engine isnt good for cut scenes that they are using and i thought every developer would have learned there lesson from Bandai after the way Jump Force turned out. Unfortunately i was wrong

Took me 5 hours to play the demo. THat's me exploring, getting all treasure & Level 7. I played as Riesz, Hawkeye & Kevin. I'm gonna go back & play as the other 3 since their stories will be completely different. So remember if the full game is 30 hours It'll end up being 60 hours since you'll want to play at least 2 playthroughs.
Make sure to get holy bolt with Angela to show you how powerful she will be as the game continues.
It is a huge Demo indeed, specially if you start it again with other characters and see their intros.
There is 6 playable character. There is 3 different final boss depending on what character you choose.
@@starknightlumina8680 She can't use Holy Bolt though in the demo. She's friggin OP AF though when you use magic items. Tested it myself, Full Metal Hugger was no challenge whatsoever and I was kind of disappointed, and that was without me pumping any intelligence in her whatsoever and just going for skills I knew I could learn(I learned Holy Bolt even though I didn't realize I wouldn't be able to use it, I figured for the purpose of the demo they'd let Angela use magic, but nope, still have to beat the bosses to unlock those spells).
@@jonp1952 You can use Holy Bolt in the demo. You just need two training points into spirit for Angela and then beat the boss. Before you finish the demo by going to the final waypoint, you can test Holy Bolt out on the enemies in the cavern. I've done it.
you and i had the exact same thought on these demos, i was saying as you were, that most demos if you know how to play rpgs, you can stretch it out a few hours, i said 2, you said 2-3

it feels like they put alot more love and work into the game, secret of mana remake was a dumpster fire, but this one looks awesome, also i had one game crash right around the beginning but nothing after that

I Had a blast with this. A Bit on the easy side, but what a treat to a fan of the original mana games on snes. I played with english voices, they were a bit cheese (too cute or $1 special cheese haha)
Also I should add, the demo is also available on STEAM. AND, You can potentially play the demo for longer than 2.5 hours, since every character has their own starting path ;)

The only Mana game I played was the one that came out on the SNES (secret of mana)

so does the story change depending on who you pick for your main character at the beginning of the game? if so does that mean you can do multiple plays and it be different?
Yes, you should play the game multiple times to see everything. There are basically 3 story paths. The main villain, certain plot points, and final dungeon of the game all change based on which character is your main. But two characters have the same villain. Angela and Duran share a plotline, Charlotte and Kevin share another, and Riesz and Hawkeye another. Putting two characters together in a party who share the same main villain added more dialog in the original game.
The other thing that changes is your style of playing. Everybody has a class so you're essentially building a team. When you hit certain levels you get job upgrades which can get you different moves and change how your team works. So you can play the same story but the gameplay feels different.
Example: Duran can go light side or dark at level 15 or 18. With light he starts learning healing spells and can equip a shield. With dark he becomes more offensive and can eventually learn "saber" skills in later classes. These give your basic attacks elemental properties.
Kevin himself changes into different kinds of werewolves depending on his class change.

I never played the original (Still have the one on the T.o.M collection to finish) but this demo is absolutely superb. I can't wait for it to come out. The graphics and gameplay really blew me away.
You think you’re hyped about this game?!? Think of the developers who remade this game and final fantasy! Imagine how they feel having new technology where the vision they had all along can truly come to life as they really really imagined it.
And unlike some other companies (cough, Blizzard, cough) the guys at Square Enix actually give a damn and want to properly honor the source material.

I for one hope that that awful translation/English voice acting wasn't their intended vision. The fan translation was 100x better.

Yes!!!! I would absolutely love a Secret of Evermore remake with this engine! I always liked that game better than Secret of Mana, and felt that it was very underrated. Some of the best atmosphere on the SNES besides Super Metroid.

I honestly didn't play much of Secret of Evermore at all. It was interesting, but I never got that far because I kind of just gave up on it. I think the main reason was the more modern setting at the time, and I just wanted to be from a medieval setting all the time. I mean yeah you kinda weren't in a modern setting but you were modern in a different setting, it was just not my cup of tea and I could never get myself to want to play it.
Wow, I never realized how much that title theme sounds like the opening to Golden Sun.
I loved SD3 on emulators about two decades ago. So much fun! The music was amazing

The demo is good... although, even on hard mode, I found it was very easy. I hope the difficulty spikes up at some point later in the game.
Give the mobs minimum double the speed they have currently and that will fix the 'easy' as pie aspect of this game. I only bothered playing 'normal' though myself

If I can recall. The old game was super easy in the beginning too. There was a pretty hefty difficulty spike later in the game.
I wouldn't be to sure. I recently watched an interview with the development team and they played with a boss halfway through the game(Lvl 45) it looked even more pathetic than the crab from the demo.
Don't get me wrong though, the game looks fun but it definitely doesn't look hard

Absolutely loving the demo. Literally the only negative thing I can say is the english voice for Charlotte. Reminds me of the My Hero Academia english voice for the hero with the purple balls, it is INCREDIBLY annoying. Everything else is A+
im glad you liked it. personally i cant get past the disgusting looking cut scenes and its a shame because if it werent for those this game would have been decent. Ill stick to the original in the Mana Collection
Charlotte's dub is the cringiest I've heard in my life so thank GOD Japanese voices are enablable unlike the KH series... not just Charlotte's voice but the written text is a trainwreck! They should just spell all words like normal despite any "accent" attempts on a voice actor's part so players won't get a headache trying to read trashy writing to understand already horrendous speech T_T
Charlotte's voice sounds like a New York accent in some dialog and to be honest I heard worse like Nico's voice from Arc Rise Fantasia.
His voice sounds whiny and high pitched like teenager whose voice is changing due to puberty.
So compared to that I don't mind Charlotte's voice I think that is similar to Molly's voice from the US Dic version of Sailor Moon.
It's an amazing remake, isn't it? A remake of Secret of Evermore in this style would be so awesome!

This game really game me those Square feels! Nothing short of a very solid, complete, full-fledged game experience! It gave me nostalgia for Treads of Fate, Xenogears, Brave Fencer Musashi, which are all very excellent (mostly)! Thanks, Johnny for the demo recap!

Only way this game is 'hard' is if the player is a moron that can't dodge and has the reflexes of a potato. I played on normal myself, I think I got hit 3 times total.
if it's anything like the Original it deffo will. the part the demo covers is basically the training wheels part of the game so you can get a feel for the combat system. the boss was a cakewalk but he has Always been a piss ant compared to bosses later on anyways so it is too early to judge

@@DiscusvissenRocken Never lost to that boss but some of them later on... Had big trouble with B&B in R till I realised they countered anything special.
I die enjoy the Secret of Mana Remake, granted it has oh so many flaws, but the nostalgia was strong.
I am so happy that Trials of Mana at least got the love they should have shown to Secret of Mana in the first place, i love those two games to bits.
Well hopes up that it does well enough for Square to think about giving the same treatment to Chrono Trigger.
I would love a remake of pretty much all RPGs from the 16 bit era. Final fantasy 4-6 chrono trigger super Mario rpg lufia 1 and 2 secret of mana breath of fire collection shining force 1 and 2

Massively enjoyed the game. I quite enjoy the english voice acting. Not the greatest but very decent. I was excited already but after playing the demo I'm massively excited for this one!

After seeing the Visions of Mana trailer and gameplay showcase, it made me want to try out this series for the first time. I’m an hour into this game and I’m really liking it so far! Going to play it all week, I have a feeling this game is going to be an absolute gem. 😊
