- Join us as we meet a Honda engine tuner who makes perhaps one of the finest Naturally Aspirated engines in Japan. Using the know how and experience and technology from Formula racing engines with his knowledge of building and assembling race engines for Mugen F3000 and F3 programs in the 80s 90s, Makoto Kawashima started his brand K-Tech Engine Service in the early 2000s to offer a level of tuning engine to Honda enthusiasts never available before. Keen eyed JDM fans of Best Motoring and Hyper Rev magazine would have seen his creations in Seeker`s Civic Type R EK9 and S2000 with a meticulously fully re-engineered engine with his original H-I shape conrod and F1 style pistons. His own S2000 demo car featured the first `square engine` specification F20C that delivered response and power and the all important mid-range torque that addressed the weakness of the original design.
Captbradford meets Kawashima san at the 2021 Honda Style Fun & Run event introduced by Seeker`s Ryo Teraoka to find out what makes K-Tech`s engines so unique and appreciated in the Japanese VTEC community. We look at the details of the new F240-VPL 2.4 litre F20C based engine that delivers 340PS@8100rpm , 33kgm/6100rpm. This figure is reminiscent of yesteryears Group A engines but carefully designed for street use while retaining reliability that standard Honda engines are well known for. How is this possible? The `secrets` are in the design and production of the special components that are the heart of the engine itself. The crankshaft, conrods, pistons and pin. Find out in the video as he shows us the details of this `racing to street F1 engine`.

"We only had 50 employees, so I had to do everything myself, from building the engine, to installation, to testing the car, testing the track, sweeping the floor, I had to do this long time". So humble master.
Not as humble as your intellect anyway.
Normal for japanese company once i worked in toyota city early in the morning i saw my general manager cleaning production toilet by himself
340 Horsepower with a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine is insane!
@sw4gr1d on a 2000cc? I don't think so
even on a stock f20c its 120hp per liter, which was the higher hp per litre engine 4 cyl
@@DanieleMamelicoolestaura516 its stroker 2.4L
they made a 500hp naturally aspirated one
You can make more sure but this looks very streetable
A very special engineer who has great knowledge and experience, this kind of NA motor is about true love of engineering and the best skill, an art that should be preserved and carried on, I glad he is teaching his son to take on the heritage of this great engine building. Please show how much faster the revs are, the more usable powerband as it moves faster and further the oem powerband and please showcase the all important sound of the complete engine as it is raced on the track. Really enjoyable segment about his time at Mugen, his association with F1, drivers such as Eddie Cheever.
I was thinking the same, this is becoming such a dying breed now. In 10+ years the best “engine tuners” will be MIT grads who plug their laptop into an electric car and override the factory ECM software to make more kilowatts.
engineering at its finest. Its sad in America, everyone wants brutal torque and stroked motors.
But around the world its about over squared engines and reving with long rod to stroke ratios creating less load on the bottom end.
People dont realize you can get your torque out of shortening your trans.
But yes I do agree with you this is a dying breed. Love the one off parts.
@@kpwr6197 While it is true that you can get more torque by using higher gear ratio, but that also means lower top speed, it is suitable in many application but won't satisfy those speed demon.
Brutal torque is great but the technology they used are not that efficient for american cars which is sad like you said, and yes i love when someone tries to increase the efficiency of an engine
The footage used at 1:12 of the 2 Seeker EK9's is also on BESTMOTORing 's Official YT channel where they cover some technical info about K-tech pistons and rods for the B18C and then proceed to do some testing with Daisuke Ito behind the wheel. The video has not received ENG subs yet unfortunately, so all that juicy info is up in the air unless someone submits the eng subs someday.
Fun fact tho: you can catch a glimpse of the SEEKER (Version 1) wing on both white and yellow EK9 which i've only ever seen on those cars and no other ever again.
Bro I didn’t know you were on here. I have you on IG, I’m glad you still around and enjoying cars like the rest of us. Props on your civic as well.
SEEKER eg6 was a monster. It could smoke RE Amemiya Rx7 on Touge if Orido didn't crash
What’s the song
I love all the nerdy details and I love the soundtrack choices!
This content is exactly what I love your channel for. Shame about the cut in the interview but hopefully you can visit at some point in the future as you said!
this is F1 tech. only if i make enough money i would buy this things. hobbies that your passionate would make you go hardcore since its one of your happiness in life
the only channel in 2021 which takes me back to the good ol 90's 💕
That really is Racing design on those pistons and rods, you don't normally see those stiffeners in the pistons in many other forged pistons, and the the rods doesn't usually has the cut out at right above the big end of the rod.
New Jdm Masters episode best day ever 🙏🙂
Thanks to japan, best nation! support from italy ✋🇯🇵🇮🇹
This is truly fantastic content. Nobody else is putting out stuff like this for English speakers. Thanks for putting this together!
Awesome episode & I'm not a Honda guy at all. I would love to see you do something like this about RE Amemiya. Being a rotary engine builder here in the northeast US since '09, I've always been inspired by their builds. Not just a pursuit of raw power, but of a perfectly balanced vehicle. And they helped dispel a lot of the BS myths that piston engine guys like to say about rotary's. Kyle Mohan has proven to everyone that when you know what your doing, rotary's can be extremely reliable in the fact that he used the same 20b the ENTIRE season in '19 & wasn't torn down at all. He did comparable to Dai Yoshihara, who used 3 2jz's that year.
now compare that to the m104's used in europe in drifting, all used and abused for many, many events, europe doesnt get the recognition by anyone
I love everything you do for your channel. There is not just incredible amounta of information. But it's so well edited and out together! Thank you
I love watching your videos JDM Masters. Brings me back to the 90s with these jdm cars every time!
Once again, A phenomenal video from capt. Keep it up king
I had watched this a few times already. Thank you for interviewing him. His expertise on honda engines is someone who I look up to. Thanks again
Wow! Very informative interview! Thank you so much for making these kind of content! Love from USA and Philippines!!
always can depend on quality JDM knowledge as usual. keep up the great work and thank you for all the JDM content through this pandemic and beyond!!!
Big thanks to guys like you and Albo making amazing content from Japan
Excellent video, thanks again Capt, keep up the awesome work!😎👍
I work at Mazda Toyota Manufacturing in Alabama. This guy reminds me of my advisors who have been with Mazda for a minimum of 20 years. I might not like the job but man, I love the passion the advisors exude. It's kinda infectious. The job I help do is to ensure the body lines of the car are perfect. I see Mazdas out in the wild, as I say, and smile at that Kodo design.
Really love these videos, thanks for all your work!
I was thinking the other day when will you post another video and now here it is :) I will enjoy this with my morning coffee!
Awesome video! Love the technical explanation and the attention to detail from K-Tech
The Gran Turismo music is all I need to hear to know you make good content 👍
Watching this Channel for awhile. And i found a new game drinking a glass sake everytime the captain says actually. love you guys.
First time watching. I learned a lot 💯. This is great please return. This man is a legend.

I'm so happy you did an insight on k-tech!
i'm waiting for this episode too
Alot of us have been very eager to learn more about K TECH Engine Service. Thank you!
Great video as always! Would love for your take on the AW11 MR2, and its general absence from BM/HV, I've always tried digging around for older videos but only find the newer (and better platforms) SW20 and ZZW30
Where has this channel been!! This is so great!!!
I love the liltle intricit details in all parts which make difference when all put together.
I love how you use Gran Turismo soundtrack on your videos. Keep it up! :)
nice to see a new upload :)
Amazing is about all i can say and a true master as he explains it in such simple terms that anyone can follow.
Thanks for the video and thanks to another car master
I’m really happy I randomly clicked on this video.
Video is just awesome. But I also really enjoyed the Gran Turismo soundtrack in the back at times :D nicely done
Thank you for remind us and working to translate Ktech i remember the interview on f20c kit. Thank you
Amazing. Thank you for sharing this!
New to the channel but man ive been missing out. Love the style of vid
Awesome to see an interview with a master of engine tuning! If i had the money i would do it! I love NA engine. There is nothing better sounding than an NA with an ITB setup and open trumpets!
What a cool clip from cpt Bradford, also I'm amazed by the Shutoko song!
new JDM masters video. the best way to start the day !!!! ✨💕
It definitely is 🍻😎
I love the content! A Very insightful Interesting interview!
This was awesome to watch.
I’m just browsing JDM stuff and this popped up. This is too JDM and I love it
Nice video. Thank you.
Great video thanks
If hes slightly earlier he would be building Senna's engine ... that will be worth $100k $200k rather $30k :)
About time someone did a video on Makoto Kawashima - you should expand on this and do a video at the workshop (it's like a surgical room) and seeing an engine on the bench dyno being tested would be brilliant :).
Awesome real race tuning content.
I would absolutely spend money on a motor built this good. This guy needs to blow up!
*_Damn this is super cool! Hopefully his son carries on this legacy. I'll have to check out the website. Hopefully he has some parts for the D series motor._*
Although its even way more expensive than German expert ... however the name hes selling is probably from formula technology and skill + Ex Mugen engineer title . Its worth it for his stuff and reliability
He’s worth it man everything is built like he’s building it for he’s own personal car you can’t buy that craftsmanship anywhere In the us …
I'm in Japan and looking to get a Honda for my next car. Thanks for showing me who my next tuner will be
😄😄😄
Wow great video, great interview ,super great tuner!!! Thanks for making this video!!
My two favorite things are Honda cars and engines, and F1 so this video is perfect.
This is phenomenal
DAMMMMMM, awesome interview
Thanks for the jewels great video!!!
My first Japanese CZcamsr I subscribed to 🤩 greetings from Germany
I don't know what does kick in more. Honda's engines or the introduction song. 0:57
Hadn't heard the new intro yet but...this is 80x better than the old one.
I'm just glad I can understand what's being said 🥳
Interesting to listen to the method and reasoning behind the design
the s2000 already revvs fast affffff i couldnt even imagine this
Nice content
Thanks bro
very impressive
Love the shuto kosouku trial music 👍
My favorite episode please go to his shop! 🙏🏽
I appreciate the torque of a turbo engine, but the response and spirit of a tuned N/A engine is something that has to be felt in order to understand.
Neck snappers 😎 Volkswagen Rabbit back in the day glued to the pavement with only 150 whp and that thing made people smile on the daily.
Having owned BMWs these engines are a steal at that price. Yes I’d buy them.
Those pistons look like jewels all polished up and under glass.
love that conrods 😉👍
Superb content 👍❤️
When I hear that intro music it just makes me think of an opening theme for an anime.
thank you for all the episodes :)
what is the music at the end please ?
Hey thank you for all your content! I've recently been building my prelude and the h22a vs f20b discussion never really seemed to come to a conclusion. The information on the f20b motor Honda used for racing seems to still be mysterious. I was wondering if you could dig up any info and maybe do a special on it just a suggestion that could lead to a great story.
I want to know as well
Thats a nice Sudou Akira's song in your video :)
Akira Sudo, Love not Sleep, Shuto Kousoku MAX. The Memories!
I love Japan! Is my second country in my heart.🇬🇷🇯🇵🇬🇷🇯🇵
F-1 technology for the masses!! What an incredible opportunity!
Impressive! Worth the money? Absolutely!
That Gran Turismo music is nice to hear. I feel nostalgic.
@Cebastean_Larocchelle may i know title of that song?
@@Barry_chopstick Akira Sudou - Love Does Not Sleep
@@a2ka1976 thank you very much! What a banger song! 🤩
Honda forever ❤️
Awesome 👍😎
This is the man who must work on my DC5 Type R. 😁
Nice video my friend thanks your sharing TeknoVlog takipte
All of a sudden i want a K-Tech Honda and to rev it to the moon!
those are some Exotic materials they are using. That's legit formula car stuff
I want that square F215 so bad and yes I wouldn’t think twice to buy it if I had the money.
As usual you videos are impressive. I just want to know the ability of those engine to take any sort of boost? Lets say 1 bar? Appreciate if you can get answer from the master.
You guys need to do Toda racing next!
I'm liking the gt music
Would be awesome if he started working on K20Cs for the turbo type Rs
Where can I buy the same Honda sweather you are wearing in this video? Buy the way great video. Thanks
Nice
At the back i saw Petronas Racing Team from my country Malaysia.
