Dear Elise, by this message i want to empower you to stay you and express yourself by any style you want.
Dreads can be for EVERYONE of ANY race...just like IGNORANCE apparently can .
Stay positive, stay you. X
Miss Bowlegs we need more positive people in the world like you
why is it that when dreadlocks come up. black and whites come up also. then turns into hate and racist comments. a hairstyle is a hairstyle. everyone has their own taste and i never knew you had to be a certain color to have dreadlocks smh
+Deseray Rivera Only because it comes off as cultural appropriation.
The thing about that is - black people are often looked down upon and ostracized for wearing dreads and now that white people wear them, it's a trend. Just a double standard and that's where the frustration comes from.
+Love Ballet the term cultural appropriation is stupid. Any race can wear any type of clothes or hair style it doesn't matter if that clothing or style is associated with one race or culture. That's stupid
+Dennis M First of all, I was explaining that black people are refused jobs, fired from jobs, stereotyped, and ostracized for wearing dreads - a style that can protect their hair and a style that has been in black culture for a super long time. And now that more white people are getting dreads, it's looked at as trendy and cute. That's cultural appropriation and the only reason why white people are ridiculed for it is because one: dreads are for people with certain hair textures that don't include white people and two they look fucking stupid and gross on white people. Long story short - white people are criticized for wearing dreads because they're appropriating cultures and being seen as trendy while that same culture is more often than not, ridiculed and stereotyped. So how about you take several seats, and shut the fuck up.
+Dennis M First of all i'm actually not black or an sjw but ok. Second of all, I know you're not very smart based on the fact that you feel the need to insult me at every chance other than come up with a legitimate counter argument. Third, please learn how to read - I said "white people are only ridiculed because they look gross and because people know that its appropriation". And fourth, please just stop arguing with me on this, I came here to explain to people why African Americans have problems with white people appropriating culture and taking part in double standards. Don't take your blind ass anger out on me when I'm just trying to explain a viewpoint.
Ah I've always loved your dreads they make you look like a warrior princess!
ikr!
+Katie Singer Thank you!
+Elise Buch sorry but u don't look good in dreads. .coz its so disgusting its like abusing my rastafarian religion
+Yokebeth Elihaki en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreadlocks
Yokebeth Elihaki In what way is she abusing your religion? You must live a very sheltered life if you are so offended by hair. No doubt your journey to Rastafarianism involved listening to Bob Marley once and thought "This is so deep man, I'm a rastafarian now and am going to smoke weed and shit."
Honestly I can never get dreadlocks, I play with my hair too often and it probably wouldn't look right on me. But, you look beautiful with them and just wanted to let you know I admire your courage to wear dreads publicly and not let others get you down about so called 'culture appropriation'.
I love white people with dreads! As a black women I don't know why there's so much hate.
I think you look absolutely gorgeous!
I actually prefer the look of dreads on white people then black people most times.
Ignore people who have only have negative comments!
Her hair looks fine would y'all shut up and let her enjoy life seriously let people enjoy things without making unwanted or rude comments
+Bianca Alonzo thank you 🙈😊
Bianca Alonzo i agree
Bianca Alonzo I agree , she is beautiful and she can do whatever she wants and no one should judge her . i hope you respond to my comment Elise Buch , sorry if I spelled your name wrong, I LOVE YOUR HAIR SO BEAUTIFUL!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bianca Alonzo I agree
Bianca Alonzo YEAH I WANT IT TOO😍
Y'all need to chill, it's her hair not yours. She can do what she wants and doesn't need your hate. Just be nice, and if you don't have anything nice to say literally, don't say it.
@ the people making hateful comments and calling her racist:
Dreads will form naturally if you don't brush your hair. Yes, that does mean white girls can get natural dreads. Please if you are going to be rude, just leave. Her dreads are nice and cute. Hmph.
I saw your video about white people and dreadlocks. I could comment. I just want to say to you that I love your locks. they are beautiful. bump the haters. thank you for seeing how beautiful Afro textured hair is.
Thank you Natysha ❤️ means a lot after all the hate I have been getting for having locks. Afro hair is really pretty! Before I started to accept my own hair I was always saying "mom why can't I have afro hair, I think it's so pretty" ☺️
I can believe that .
Elise Buch You're brave, its not an easy task embracing a physical characteristic that comes with such controversial debate. Im glad for you. The world can only change as more people such as yourself continue to break the mold, cling to your beliefs, and determine your identity for yourself. Surely you're blessed.
Also, Celts had a thing called "faerie locks" back in the day. They looked exactly like this. Most cultures have had a form of dreads at some point, just not as recently as African culture. It generally got lost.
Natysha Elam Vikings would dread the fuck out of their hair. Braids too.
I LOVE dreadlocks but I couldn't ever do that to my hair honestly, it was painful for me to watch XD
+Giulia Gardini Thank you :) I guess it is to people who are really careful when it comes to their hair :D
i'm actually in love with your style 😍
absolutely love this. your hair color is stunning and the dreads suit you. you are so beautiful. don't pay any mind to the people who like to hate they aren't worth your time. lots of love.
I'm new but, how people with dreadlocks wash their hair? are their dreadlocks would still like that after they wash their hair? no offense, just asking, I'm curious and don't know nothing, this video is recommended by youtube so I watched it
+Naomi Jasmine hello Naomi 😊 yes, sure you can wash your hair. And you should. I wash my hair 2-3 times a week depending on the season and how much I work out. But it all depends on the person how often you decide to wash them, just like it's different from person to person without dreadlocks 😊
Don't forget to dry the hair, Naomi. We don't want mold to grow. :/
if there was a like button i'd like you comment cuz there's nothing wrong with curiosity😀
+Dena Stein you tap the comment and press like to like it
They make special shampoo and conditioner that can get expensive
you look so freaking good with dread locks
Please never take your dreads out , theyre sooooooo pretty! I love your channel so much and it breaks my heart to see how cruel people are to you when youre so sweet , stay strong love xox ! :)
I have great sorrow at the hatefulness that has been spewed, and basically turned into a platform with another agenda. Live and let live. If your opinions are different, that's fine, then this video isn't for you, move on. If it resonates, cool. I'm so sad to know this kind of thinking is still in our world, I thought humanity as a whole was better than this...I guess not. Coexistence is a virtue to be shared with kindness. I for one am happy to find a place for love, tolerance and great information. Elise Buch is beautiful and has a gentle soul, thanks for the love, let the hate fall away, it doesn't belong here.
I don't like the stigma that if you have dreads you smoke pot. My family won't let me get them because if it
Wow, I just watched your other video brushing out your locks after 2yrs & then this one. I have to first say I LOVE your accent, second your so pretty & third wow amazing. I always wondered how you all were able to do that to your hair type. So Cool. Thanks for sharing ♡♡
Lol sameeee I watched the two year vid then came to this one.
I think you are so beautiful! Your dreadlocks are absolutely perfect! Don't listen to anybody who tells you otherwise. You are an example to me:) keep being amazing!
Just wanted to comment on your "White people shouldn't have dreads" video. Sorry for all the hate you got, I think your hair is awesome. Keep doing you. Greetings from America.
Your hair is so cool! Like its so pretty and you're so chill
So cringey to watch... I could never do this myself. I'm obsessed with having no tangles whatsoever 😂
Me too!!!
Same!
Tangles I will NOT GO ONE DAY WITH NOTS OR TANGLES IN MY HAIR 😅😅😅😅
ikr samee
That's one of the reasons I had my hair dreadlocked; I only brush or comb my hair once or twice a day, the rest is just finger-comb. And I have really "stubborn" hair; no matter how tight I tie it, it just loosens up in just a matter of minutes. Now I can braid my hair, or put it up in a bun with out having to worry about it falling off while I'm exercising or moving around too much.
I don't and will not ever understand why people feel the need to say negative things. We all need to build eachother up and encourage others. 💕
Love how eyes look in ring-light :')
+ProGangstaShit Me too :P And a little scary tho!
I absolutely 😍 you! You’re gorgeous with locs btw!!!
I love that your hair :) I have been wanting dreads but didn't want to damage my hair then not like it. I'm going to use pre-made dreads. Keep up the good work
i love the comforter behind you! anyone know what kind of pattern that is or where i can buy? its beautiful~
Thank you! I love your hair!!
I'm sorry you her sleep many ridiculous comments. It's really disappointing to read. You're great and I'm glad you make such nice videos
If i done back combing and wanted to take mine out, would there be a ton of short loose hairs, Kind of like a ton of frizz ? I only got them two months ago and i want to be able to brush them out if needed or wanting to in the distant future. I really hope you see this and can answer ! ❤️ love you tons !
If I was interested in doing partial dreadlocks how many would you recommend for me to start off with
I'm thinking when I'm older getting one....one dreadlock
LOL YOU REALLY MADE NE LAUGH😂😂😂😂 she should have named the the video how to make a dreadlock one...one dreadlock
+The SAMMIE and NAVYA show 191 LOL, you made me laugh. 😂😂😂***
Thank you for this laugh in this sea of controversy
Youre so freaking adorable!! And I, for one like your dreads. 😊
have you ever thought about felting colored wool around one of your dreads? one of my friends did it and it looked really neat. btw your videos are always amazing :)
May I ask, what kind of lighting you use? +Elise Buch thx
Sweetie, these are not dreads. Dreads are an actual process of twisting and locking hair. In the process, the stylist makes sure the hair isn't tangled so your hair isn't fucked in the end. What you are doing is just creating a birds nest by tangling your hair up.
omgah I'm dying 😂😂 love your comment
Sweetie there are many ways to create locks. Theres no such thing as one way anymore.
😂😂
+Shanna Strange darling, sweetheart, honey, dreads were originally a black hairstyle and natural hair has another texture than white people hair. which means the original dreads were far less damaging and so much more hygienic than this bullshit she is doing.
So yes there /is/ a right way to do dreads and why white people would want dreads is beyond me.
+Rabbi Robbie Rotten it is very much not. Please don't spread nonsense like that
and I'm over here trying to untangle my hair for about 3 hours oh geez.
Hello Elise, what is the name of the steel comb you use for dreadlocks? Thanks
Can i do like all my hair into dreadlocks just over a night? Or would it takt to much time?
Could I do dreadlocks, even though my hair is fairly short?
+Abigail Moses I did my first set when my hair was pretty short (about 3-4 inches long) and then kept them for ten years. It's possible, but you deal with some awkwardness for a looooooong time. That being said, I did cut them all off and have recently started them back up. My hair was about collarbone-length this time and they've shrunk right up to my jawline. Still going to endure a very awkward phase for a while!!
So adorably beautiful 😍
So do you backcomb the new dreads again , like once a week till they start tightening themselves?
+wingsonmyback1 Yes, I do that every time they loosen themselves or anything like that, until they are mature and doesn't need it anymore :) That took 5 months with my dreadlocks.
Elise Buch, thanks for the info. I'll be starting mine in the next week, I appreciate your sharing of wisdom, I'm learning as I go. Can't wait till mine are as far along as yours, but we all have to walk our journey from the humble beginnings 😀! Much love.
Amelia F. Jones To be honest, I don't think you should be following her instructions. As she said, she is not a professional. I think you should consult a professional hair stylist if you want to do dreadlocks.
I think your hair looks really cool! 😍
giovanna jangarelli that's nice
You look gorgeous, and I like really much of your hair :)
I like your style! The dreads look awesome on you!
Can you still make dreads without a back comber and just a regular comb???
I like it plur vibes your way girl!! :D
i really cool video. you re one of my favorite youtuber at the moment! :)
Thank you so much ❤️
+Elise Buch me too:)
I love your hair, thanks for sharing. And remember that the people who have left hate comments are jealous of your beauty! Keep being you, because no else can do it better!!!
I think most hair styles are so cute and I love how empowered people feel when they get new styles, but I never understood dreadlocks. still tho you do you
makes me want to work on my dreads
+The Healthy Hippie Mama hehehe.. I am sooo lazy, haven't worked on it since I made this video :D hah
+Elise Buch thats my problem lol it requires so much arm strength!
that must hurt so much when you take it down like for me it hurts when I take down a ponytail 😂
or when you take it away or whatever you're gonna say
How do you wash dreadlocks and how often do you do so? Also, I was told to make dreadlocks you need some sort of wax to keep it together. Is that true or no?
Most people wash them around once or twice a week but it depends on the person. No you don't need wax
How did the front dreadlock become so long after being so short once u made it and how long did it take?
how do you wash your hair???????
+bellabella Christine you don't (atleast i think so) usually if you don't wash your hair for a while it will get dirty and nasty and greasy but if you stop washing it period it will eventually start to look like its washed all the time and won't be all nasty because its adapted to it,but it is a long process like a year or so. if you want more info on it look it up.
Washing it creates mold.
Mia H yeah
Angelina Steel oh... well I will never do that anyway lol thank you for info.
no, I have dreads and the whole mold thing is a myth it's usually just lint and not mold, but you don't wash for 2 or 3 days right after making them. then you only use anti residue shampoo (don't use conditioner)
doesnt it damage the hair?
+Potato Face I think though that if you have ever even just back combed your hair a little bit you get a tiny feel for the damage, but they are very pretty when taken care of right as Elise has done. Lots and lots of research is key for hairstyles like that, it's actually more work than regular hair
no, while some methods can damage the hair dreadlocks do not.
This method may but I have freeform locks which are healthier and stronger
So do you wash dreads like you would normal hair? And how to you tame them? I guess not really tame but get them to look good and styled? You look really good with them by the way.
+Kelcey Burrow Thank you!
Yes I do wash them like everybody else wash their hair, I start from the scalp and work my way out in the tips of my dreadlocks.
I don't style them anymore, in the beginning there were some work in maintaining them, but after almost 3 years of having them, I don't need to do much anymore :)
Thank you for this video. I've watched so many, and this has the best close up view of the way that a baby dread looks.
May I ask you want dreadss. As being caucasian our hair is not ymeant to do that. Im just curious as to what made you want them?
Caucasian hair is not exactly a true statement, all hair is different even poc hair. look at hair under a microscope , they come in different structures
caucasian hair? define this please?
Funny. I’m caucasian and when I was younger I had to get 2 dreads cut out my hair that formed on their own due to negligence of brushing the underneath well. Hmmm?
I think dreadlocks are cool, not gonna lie, but I honestly could not deal with having to brush them back out afterwards 😂 Brushing my hair even now, straight as an arrow, is so painful, I couldn't handle brushing out dreadlocks ;-;
Briana Allbright yep
I'm getting dreads soon and I wanted to dye my hair, should I dye my hair before or after I get dreads?
Either way. Dreads can be dyed, just the same as straight or curly hair. *But* dying your hair first would probably be easier..then you'd just need to do root touch-ups for a while.
how long did it take for that small from one to grow that long?
A tutorial on how to really damage your hair
Megan Miller agree able
Ur are so pretty
I love your hair. I've always wanted to do this but idk. I can admire them on others like you. you are beautiful. so mainly hats off to you for having the balls to do it. love love love.
the 'yay' sold me. YOUR ARE FOREIGN OR SCANDINAVIAN!!! AWESOME!
YOU REMIND ME OF SERENA FROM GOSSIP GIRL
i have a pixie cut why am i watching this. actually this is interesting nvm
why is there so much hate? your dreadlocks are awesome! I would have them if my hair wasn't so short!
My hair is as long as yours without dreadlocks, how much length will I lose after making them?
Grinch fingers lmao 💀
Lol very weird as a US citizen to hear someone say a combing (b is silent) com-bing or com-ber the B is silent.
pretty sure english isn't her first language...
+Izzy Stevens lol pretty sure English is her first language.
no.. it's not.. she's Danish which means... her first language is Danish..
+malibuluv209 no her first language is in fact Danish
Thanks for sharing, i have been looking for a good how to video for ages and only ever found the crochet method, which i also agree is very damaging for my hair. Will be doing this from now on 👌
I saw some people use wax in a hair shop. Did you ever? Sounds good and kind of ummm sticky. Do you think I could do it myself? So cool.
I was watching music from Chicago, how'd I get here
Same! All I wanted to do was learn to make a good pizza dough. 😩😩😩
+Sophie Wright lmao
omg my hair hurt me while i was watching this
do you have to do this everyday or do you just leave it in
which are easier to take care of regulat hair or deadlocks
I would say dreadlocks 😊 I don't think my hair has ever been this easy.
She's so pretty, I wonder how More pretty she would be without dreads
Nah, she would look basic af without dreadlocks. I think she looks great as is. Well ok that's only my opinion but u know what I'm saying
Although she is gorgeous
she would look soooo much better w/o locks
+Harley Jadalynn u can't be a hater your whole life
+Deuce Burress yah ur right don't be a hater
I could never get these... Hate when my hair looks like a rats nest
good for you
hahahhaha hahaha
IKR!!!
+gabi star mykiiieee
Love your hair! It's so cool
did you all your dreads on your own? Or did you help a hair stylist?
that is basically teasing and twisting hair
+Haley Monroe That's why I N E V E R Tease my hair, I tried it and it took me a week to get straight and smooth again, DON'T TEASE YOUR HAIR!
+MineCraftQueenAnd WolfLover ive tryed teasing my hair to look like that girl from teen beach movie after i fell asleep my hair looked like a bomd went off on it
Haley Monroe Uh Yeah, How hard was it to brush out?
how to make dreadlocks:
step 1 - have the right textured hair
step 2 - be a part of the culture
step 3 - dont do dreadlocks if steps 1 and 2 do not apply to you. that's just damaging to your hair, dirty, and culturally appropriating; which is racist.
She's not being racist or disrespectful in any way. Racist is prejudice against a race, not having a hairstyle because you think it looks good.
Rylee Bers when you appropriate a culture, especially a marginalised one such as the black community, you are committing a racist offense against them. Black people are ridiculed, fired from jobs, labelled as disgusting and treated as criminals purely for having this hairstyle while white people like this girl and Kylie Jenner are praised for their hair and face none of these consequences on an institutional or societal level. But sure it's fine, they think it looks good.... who cares about all of it's histories and hardships if it looks good?
Nathan Creek I think it's unfair when black people are ridiculed for having this look, when white people aren't, but I still don't think SHE is being racist. Unless she also judges others for the hairstyle I still think what she is doing is okay. I can see what you are trying to say though, so I'm not going to give you a ton of crap.
Rylee Bers she herself may not be doing and saying the direct racist things, but her actions and ability to have this hairstyle is her directly benefitting from the racial injustice. As she has had this hairstyle many times, has been told before that it is a racist thing and still hasn't stopped, she herself is contributing to the racism and so is racist.
***** she still has them and having them is racist. The physical act of a white person having dreadlocks is inherently racist. It doesn't matter what that persons opinions, motives or intents are. It is always racist.
Beautiful!! you go girl!!
Awesome video! I’m hoping to get dreadlocks sooner than later, but I have to grow out my hair for about a year and a half yet since I have a pixie cut right now 😂❤️ your dreads were so pretty!
you are so fucking gorgeous!!
I like dreadlocks but the way you make them,it makes knots in your hair
That's why it's called dread LOCKS.
+Alyssa Nicole locks aren't purposefully placed knots... Locks can occur when someone's hair natural locks in on itself when left alone and twisted, or the hair could be instalocked which is when you crochet the hair together, but this is matted pieces of hair called dreadlocks.
So happy that you are putting them back in! Dreads look so good on you and were some of the best I've seen!
+BohemianGypsyRose I won't put all of them back in, I actually really like the half and half look :)
Can you use a normal comb?
honestly why do people care what others do to there hair its not like its being done on you am I right if you don't like it then why are you on a video about it , if hair is damaged it can be fixed because hair grows. common sense people some of you need it an insulting someone doesnt makes you an even better person grow up !! ok ..ok .
yes, finally someone with common sense! PREACH!
+Alexis Crocker I don't know why people are so busy commenting on what other people do either. haha it's really a mystery to me.
It looks like you're really damaging your hair :/
And what do you do for put the extencions?
+GhiaccioBlu I have never done that myself, so I don't know :)
What's the song that was at the beginning
Why would someone damage their hair like that ?!
+Alex Valcheva People bleach their hair, dye it over and over again, straighten or curl it every morning... I have dreadlocks. In the end I actually think our hair is equally damaged. I've brushed out a lot of dreadlocks my now, and the hair is fine afterwards.
my question is: why do you do dreadlocks?
+Ludicar For many reasons:
Before dreadlocks I had a crazy big hair that I could only control by flatten it every day, dreadlocks made everything a lot easier.
Also I love dreadlocks, and many of the things I associate it with such as respect, peace and love.
I think it fit my way of life and personality quite well, and I love them..
There's a ton of reasons.
my question is: why don't you do dreadlocks Ludicar? 😒
+BreeBreeand WhateverTV They ruin the hair!!! haven't you seen the amount of hair she lost when she brushed them out!!! If I do it I will end up bold for sure :(
+Shanissa Bunifa when you have dreadlocks, all the hair that you would normally lose gets stuck in them, that's why dreadlocks get thicker over time if I am correct, some of that hair she pulled out was probably dead already
To people that say you lose a lot of hair, thousands of hair grow every day. It's not a big deal. Dreadlocks look beautiful on some people such as Elise.
What happens if you have an oily scalp?
I have been seriously considering dreadlocks for a long time now and I think I'm going to take the plunge..
I have a question can anyone answer? Does your hair have to be clean to start a dreadlock?
