    Today is very nostalgic as we're taking a close-up look at my friends' decade old gaming PC! It was super high-end (at the time) and features all kinds of fun hardware, including an especially unique Cooler Master chassis. I may even gut the entire system and fill it with modern hardware, because that's just something I do sometimes.

      Actually, this is ok PC now. With this motherboard you can upgrade RAM to triple-channel 6*4=24 GB, which is plenty for now and wont be too slow bc of triple channel. And you can buy Xeon X5650 (6c/12t) for $10 on aliexpress and overclock to 4.2-4.8 GHz, it will be around 2000 cinebench r20 points. Another option is W3680 (6c/12t) for $45 for easyier overclock because of unlocked multiplier. Perfect as mid-level system for nowdays, just add, maybe RTX2060, two dirt-cheap sticks of ram and dirt-cheap xeon CPU.

    • @MrGedem
      @MrGedem Před 3 lety +21

      @Niklause Mikaelson First of all, I didn't meant you should buy videocard from ali. Buy it in local store or craigslist of whatever.
      And xeons are ok. How else you can get 2000+ cb r20 points CPU for $10? Or even $45. Yes, they are used. Yes, there is no point to bild new PC with old xeon from ali, but if you have mobo compatible with xeon, why not? Used CPU is ok, there is no any noticeable degradation in used CPUs. Yes, it is not fastest CPU in existance, but it is ok mid-level. And it will be more "upgrade PC" rather than "throw away old and make new" like in this video.

      There's no way to install a SSD (storage drive or boot drive) without opening the case. I wasn't talking about the age of the case but the age of one of the components. So that case had to have been opened in the last 6 years. 6 years being the absolute maximum amount of time possible without that case having been opened.

    As for your comment of "technology is moving so quickly..." honestly, that's less of an issue in the last 5-8 years. Ever since cpu manufacturers have been focusing on # of cores and not clock speed, you can run a ton of new games on significantly older hardware. (Because most games (even today) are so poorly multithreaded that it doesn't matter, only clock speed matters.) My current CPU is 6 years old (6700k) and I can still run every modern game on the highest settings (unless the game is a PoS). My gpu is overkill for playing at 1080p, and I could easily run a GPU from that era (Like a 980ti) as well and still get above 60 fps.

    I got lucky that I got one of the few motherboards from Asrock that actually could support this that had a full size PCI-E 16x slot on the top most slot that is usually a 1x slot for most motherboards.

    You could have picked up a Six core Gulftown i7-990x 3.46ghz on ebay for around $150, upgraded to 24GB of decent quality DDR3 memory, added the 5600xt you already have and gained a huge performance boost without swapping the motherboard at all! Granted, there would have been zero upgrade path thereafter and gaming performance would have been around 20-25% slower than with the B450/Ryzen 2600X combo, but whenever I see an x58 board I feel compelled to adorn it with the best possible components prior to its ultimate decommissioning! In my view it really was one of Intel's absolute finest creations!
