  • Florida's Okaloosa County Sheriff Department has released bodycam footage of the shooting of a US airman by a police officer.
The family of the deceased, Roger Fortson, 23, has insisted that the deputy, who was investigating a domestic violence complaint, knocked on the wrong door on May 3.
The video shows Fortson opening the door and holding a handgun at his side and pointed down. The deputy immediately opens fire multiple times at close range. Fortson later died in the hospital.
The body-camera video records the deputy twice saying "sheriff's office, open the door." It remained unclear who called law enforcement on the day of the shooting or why.

Was there 911 call by the misinforming woman or anyone else reporting the correct or incorrect apartment or did the police arrive not knowing where the disturbance was and relied on this one citizen reporting it? It may or may not matter, but curious. The woman also states that in earlier episodes she was not sure where the altercations were occurring then suggests that she had narrowed it down. That should have been a hint as to some uncertainty as to the exact apartment/condo.Yes, we see the airman open the door with his gun to his side and a calm gesture with his left hand, suggesting "Hold up...what's going on". Yes the recognition of a gun in someone's hand heightens the whole situation but he did not refuse to open the door nor was yelling when he did. I love how they yell, Drop the Gun AFTER already shooting him. Tragic.
