Now I know what I'm going to do with it!!! It was built for me by Six States in Portland, Oregon years ago and I didn't know what I was going to do with it. I have a Cat 1160 that was remaned by Caterpillar and built to 3208 specs. It has about 11,000 miles on it. I was planning on putting them together in a C60 Chev and never had time to wrap it up. If anyone wants a good deal on the Cat remaned 1160 that goes along with a second 1160 for parts, let me know. I need to clean up the shop. Nice work and inspiring as all hell!

    Nice swap! Lights blink on your brake controller because the camera actually scans frames, the led’s actually are blinking really fast because the digital controller is actually turning them on and off. Human eyes don’t see that, it’s called persistence of vision. All digital controlled displays typically “scan” as the controller lights that segment or light at a rate faster than you can see so you never notice really.

      Mileage has not changed from befor the swap. It is easier to get the load moving. The biggest benefit is hills/mountains. With the 5 speed if I hadto slow down on or at the base of a grade with a load I may have been stuck in 2 or 3rd because the gear speed was to wide with the 10. Speed I don't have that problem. I have had mine done for about 5 years and have yet to have an issue with the u-joints but I only put about 5-8k miles on it a year. I used an SAE #2 flywheel housing and bell housing.

      If you can find a transmission that has an external shift cylinder than you could possibly find a vacum chamber that you can modify to work. You would need a large chamber to have enough force and the shift may be slow.

      With it being a 4600 it should already have an sae flywheel housing. I have a 2004 dodge ram 2500 quad cab. 5.9 Cummins 48re auto I want to go to the Eaton 10 speed. From the way it was designed it looks like the swap will be simple I'll need to add a clutch and a few things but the trans tunnel on these 3rd gens are huge my only thought is it may not have the room for as high up as the trans needs to set. But we'll address it as I get into it I'm tired of auto trans that don't hold up to the Cummins torque plus I pull a lot of weight why not have a dependable trans to do the job.

    • @jagersgarage490
      @jagersgarage490  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I wondered about that for now I have a reman 48re it's working better than any so far. We'll see. But I was measuring and your right on the 20 it's got more than 38" in three or four spots. So I think cut it and reweld a new plate. So it fits nicely you would defanatly never ever have to put another clutch or trans in. Though on my old 96 KW I did break a direct shaft running over 850 horse and 2900 pounds of torque but was pulling a full load. 😂 All in fun plus the older designed 18 speed. So it was a 6x4 with a 6 behing it essentially give u about 40 gears. As u can split gears with most Eaton's. Depends.

    • @joesalazar770
      @joesalazar770 Před 3 měsíci

      That looks really good and I think the 2004 has much more room between the frame rails and the length would be there I like the unmarried t case as well. And the shear size makes that whole unit much stronger. U won't go fast from shift to shift but you will be able to pull a much bigger load tire weight ratings are all that will stop that at this point and 19.5 s will solve that. Or 22. Inch. I may just get another 2004 to 08 to do this I have moded a f10p a jeep wrangler and several others there nothing that cannot be done. And the cost of doing it is all that dictates the build. A semi tractor is a good base but they cost a lot of money to get something that has not got a million miles on it. We'll see how it all goes.

    • @jagersgarage490
      @jagersgarage490  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes you can. When I did mine the parts were about $300 including a new input shaft. You don't have to get a new input shaft I did because I wanted the larger diameter one so I would have more clutch options.

      You have to take the aux box off ass well but don't have to disassemble it. That why I did mine could only find RTs.. if you search online you can find the overhaul manual and parts breakdown for free. Walks you through the job and the is a kit number that has everything you need.

  • @StumpyVanLife
    @StumpyVanLife Před 3 lety +1

    On skip shifts slow down the shift. Give the rpm's time to drop. drop 300 to 400 for the gear you are going into and 300 to 400 for the gear you are skipping. So 600 to 800 rpm drop total when skipping a gear.

    • @jagersgarage490
      @jagersgarage490  Před 3 lety +1

      I understand that I'm just used to the rhythm of not skip shifting as it only really gets driven when hauling a load. Just thought as I was sitting at the light that I would throw it in the video.

      Much better towing always have the right gear and on hills with a hairpin turn at the bottom I can actually up shift where with the 5 speed I would be stuck in 2nd or 3rd. No change in mileage. With 33in tires and 3.54 gears at 70 it's about 2100 rpm.
