Summer Schedule
Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday. Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a CZcams channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
4640 and a 630 disk brings back late 80's farming for me.
I love how you and your brother and your dad work together as a team.
2:49 Rocket looks almost like you trained him to pose for the perfect shot!
Good old fashioned iron! No unnecessary electronics, just raw power.
Man, I can almost smell that fresh earth from here. Thank you
I love watching the old Iron working up the land. Beautiful sight
No better image of American agriculture than at 2:05. That 4640 just looks right pared with that disk
Those drones shots are awesome!
How is the relationship between you and your big brother, he seems to give you alot of hardtimes? Wish you guys all the best!
He has The Big Brother attitude towards Ryan. My brother was the same towards me and I knew I would never stay on the farm and be able to work with him. Joined the Air Force and made a career of it. Best choice I ever made.
I think that must be a cultural thing because me and my 2 brothers farm together and just constantly give each other shit but at the end of the day we all know the youngest is smarter then us lol
Keep it around. You will find that it is very useful in the event of a field fire.
Amazing how things have changed in 3 years, thanks for sharing
Every now and then, a plain old disk like the 630 is exactly what you need. Times have definitely changed from your very first videos which showed the old 4440 pulling this disk across all of your chiseled ground to mellow it prior to planting. It looks like the dozer did a great job pushing the good soil back up where it could be used and keeping it as smooth as possible. The Kuhn drill should do a great job to get those waterways seeded back down.
Great Video- Love Rocket looking of the field- seems like he is protecting the homestead. Be safe.
Thanks for video and drone , Love to see that 4640 working .
As you mentioned, it’s beautiful to see a true disk sling that black!
"Hey everybody its Ryaaaan, welcome back to how farms work!" - Know I'm in for a good vid!
love that 4640 sound when it fired up!
Rocket has a great life. How about a episode The day in the life of farm dog, Rocket.
I concur. We could put GoPros on a dog and film their day!
Glad to see that you guys have good water ways and that you take care of them!
Happy Planting Everyone!! Tear up some dirt
The ole 46's are just legends
That duo are incredible!
Nice looking disc. Great pairing with the 46.
well that combination is a throw back to the good ole days!
I’m 43 years old ......
I think I was 4 or 5 when my uncle got a new 4240 two wheel drive...
In Ireland
That was my favorite tractor to sit in on Farm Day.
The 630 in old glory👍 That brings back some memories ;-)
Disc sure did a nice job. It's always good to see ground worked
I believe I could see where the dozer was working by the tracks.
It's amazing how much those disc's drift side to side
We run a Great Plains Turbo-Max, we just put new blades on it this fall, does extremely well, always has too. It is really the only true vt tool out there with some exceptions, would reccomend one for a vt tool, does good on fall cornstalks.
That disc looks good behind the 4640. Another great video!
Aah, the farm in Spring!
Very good and to see the ease of production in the field, something that continues with high technology!
Now that's a great combination of a tractor and a tillage tool!
gotta love a an old john deere
Great video and tractor! Here in germany you couldn´t find the 4040 series. Cool youngtimer!
That is one beautiful dog
Thanks for the video Ryan I always enjoy watching them it brings back great memories when I used to farm, keep up the good work guys 👍
Great vid Ryan thanks..
Good drone shots
Put a set of VT low concavity sawtooth disk blades on it like the other one, set the disk angles to minimum, and run that puppy as a second VT... been a lot of guys do that! Hitch an Unverferth rolling basket behind it you couldn't tell the difference between what it did an the other one did... OL J R :)
WoW... that was a very short and sweet HFW video!!!
great work, nice vid bro
Nice tractor and video! Regards from Brazil !
I think you should make hay off your water ways you have several ac of them a lot extra hay
0:55-- WD-40 WHERE ARE YOU??? LOL:) OL J R :)
I still will always take old school tractors over the modern-day ones. but they all served their purpose in life big and small farms. Question if you were going to upgrade the corn planter what color would you go with or model. Have a great day
The Farming Life yet here you go out and buy a new tractor 5 times bigger then you need to farm 100 acres. Sounds like little boy syndrome.
@@johnanderson2596 here I thought you guys would let me alone. I was talking to you Ryan. You know I sold my farm so why do you keep acting like you know what's going on.
The Farming Life so now you really have an oversized tractor because you have no land. Also what happened to all “your” other tractors. Seems like they just disappeared. Must not have been yours to begin with
Something just looks right about a disk behind a tractor. I know VTs work great but man a disk looks right 😂 looks over function probably isn’t the right way to go.
Awesome kit.
“Anything shiny adds 20 horsepower” story of my life
Great video once again, keep up the good work
Somebody knows a damn fine Dozer operator!
Good job Travis.
Worked up nicely for a good seed bed. Ryan what do you think of a JD Mulch finisher. We used are disc in the fall and then hit it with the Mulch finisher in the spring and then planted. Question do you still have chickens as I remember you did a video on the chicken Coop ? Love your videos keep them coming.
I agree with the first thing you said
I like watching that dog running around.
Hot dog we're in the dirt and having fun. Let the dirt fly yippee
Great awesome video Ryan
I love how Ryan just ignores Travis's comment.
Tom yeah lol just the little-big brother relationship
Great video Ryan
Good video. I think you would regret selling the disk. It does a nice job
I have that plow and a 4440 in 1:64 from ertl
Guy with crawler can do his job well. Looks like grader was used.
Hi bro I'll see you all videos it's so nice i like this farming life can I join you bro
Another great vid!
Good vlog for spotify I watch for farm life in a northern state I I wanted music I woul be listening to spotify.
This is Bryan the 630 disk don’t look to big for the 4640
those 630s do a better job with a roller basket or harrow on the back
Could you put different blades on the disc like the ones on the VT and have two VT's?
The disk angle is a bit too extreme for a flat disk such as the VT disks it would drag sideways and not really turn properly, however certain disks you could get away with it
@@gabrielalger9792 Thank you. I think with the prices they charge these days modifying an old one would be the way to go.
@@dimduk definitely agreed there these prices suck and farmers are having to find new ways to save a buck
Is this to break up the top soil right before seeding?
Ya. I think they were just doing the areas where water runs off.
Gonna plant grass to reduce erosion.
Nice video
Okay that makes sense... I was wondering WHY would they disk the waterways when they have a beautiful shiny new NO TILL DRILL to seed them down with... surely not "disk it up and wait for the next pouring rain to wash gullies in it again!" BUT yeah a dozer can leave the ground pretty hard behind it and so disking it before seeding it sounds like a good idea... If it hadn't been dozed yeah seed straight into it no-till...
Later! OL J R :)
Wouldnt it be better for the soil if there was a basket at end of the disk? i'm not a farm, so just curious
Can you turn the 630 disc into a chisel plow or a cultivator.
Is it good to no till or disk
Each year the 4640 losses a job to the 82, soon the 4640 will be on the chopping block and that will be a sad video for some of us.
Good morning sir
😊
Hey Ryan!!
You had a choice of the disc or the VT for that job.......you chose the disc. Maybe you do need it.
First time in 5 years and for less than four hours
G'day
I was like 2:46 , pls dont get it stuck😂
Headphone users go straight to 0:55 you won’t regret it!
Don't sell the disk you will regret it because you won't be able to find another one everyone is going to those speed discs.
When are your guys gonna start getting bigger equipment
How often do you re-seed the waterways?
Sweet
How much would you possibly want for it ?
how about a tractor overview, horse power ect on all of them.
Did you have a dozer in the waterways
The disk makes the 4640 look bigger, is it stock or has it been tuned or anything
The 4640 had the pump turned up on it
630 with tines or harrow??
Hey Ryan did that cat fill in the sink hole?
How wide is that 630 disk?
They need to get out more lol
Safe comment
