With the tape, if you find it too sticky, first stick it to your shirt and it will lose some of it's stickiness. Helps avoid ruining delicate surfaces.

These gear ties are great. While a bit more expensive than other options last much longer than twist ties.
In addition, these have many other uses in addition to what Tim has shown. I personally use them for many other things if I need a tie down.
    A few examples:
On my sling pack as an additional tippet holder in a pinch.
As a replacement to attach a kevlar tether and keep net out of the way when the original ring on the landing net broke.
Most recently I use a five foot two fly rod case with room for two reels side by side as a compact car carrier for my rods. To do so and not have the ends get tangled in the case, when done fishing and drying the rod off, I use a gear tie to twist the fly line to the end of the broken down rod and slide it into case to keep it from sliding up.
While not perfect each time it does a good job and speeds up being ready to fish at a moments notice considerably. It is also significantly cheaper than the roof top rod holders.
These are just a few of the uses related to fly fishing. I have also used gear ties for many other uses while camping, hiking, and kayaking.

Instead of valuable fly shop lead wire I’ve taken to using .030 lead solder to tie things back. Spool lasts very long and I save the good lead for flies!

I used wacky worm material to hold back a trailing hook on a version of swimmy jimmy. II do like the wire thought as the worm buggered up a few tufts of the marabou.

The gear ties are great for managing a strung up rod (or more) from the car to streamside. Hook the ties to your pack of vest for later.

You beat me to it. That's how I first started using the Gear Ties and still do. I will be starting a new video series very soon called "Fly Fishing Tips and Techniques with Tim Flagler". The gear ties and their uses will be featured in one of the first videos of the new series.

So therr is a masking tape dispenser....
As much masking tape as I use that's a life changer. Mostly for non painting things.
My rolls always get dirty on the sides which hurt adhesion, and any "ding" will cause the tape to tear around that ding.
Thank you. For flies, i'm sticking with the littke hair clips but you still managed to make my life better in under 2 minutes.
