It’s my go to for EP fiber, I’m all about supporting local shops but I’m also all about keeping a full wallet. Pull a few strands out then brush it and bam you have substitute EP fiber 1000x cheaper for 1000x times less for same amount.
Also keep a few stands together to make great parachute posts.
like most, I make Dorsey’s out of this stuff and spritz some Rain-X on them and let them dry overnight. float like crazy.
Tim you always make my life simpler…
Great tip! Thanks again Tim.
Sometimes the paradox is where you can buy 20 yards of a given material for $8 where a fly shop will sell 2 yards for $3 - the truth is: The 2 yards at the lower price can actually be about 10 years worth.
Excellent point Ken! Storage is another issue. The large thing of macrame cord takes up a ton of space in my storage drawer. Even though they are more expensive for the amount you get, I'd still rather have smaller packets that take up much less room. I also like using multiple colors of polypropylene which just compounds the problem.
@@tightlinevideo purchase white bonnie braid and dye it to any color you might like with rit dye. You can use the rit to dye your grizzly hackle as well.
Brush it out well and it makes a fine EP fiber sub for baitfish patterns. I bought loads of colors in 1 yard pieces for a buck each from an online shop that sells ‘FlyFishCord’. 1 yard will make probably 10 packs of EP fiber. Caught a bunch of tarpon and snook in the Everglades on macrame yarn baitfish patterns (all white, and olive over white). I also use it for Dorsey’s.
Totally agree. I t t y any time i can to purchase from a local shop.
Thats a huge bottle of floatant..... thats what i was i use, and im conviced that stuff can make lead float
ALBOLENE on a Dorsey indicator made of Bonnie braid FTW. Step it up a notch and mix albolene with Coleman camp fuel and you have flyagra. I've even seen some tiers use Sally Hansen nail polish instead of 'name brand' head cement, seems to work okay.😁😁😁
Sally Hansen is great but it ain't cheap. Costs much more than head cement.
Para Post is great for wings...I'm not sure what it's made from though
Do you have anything made up in a size 30 hook? I'm trying to figure out what to make
Tim. I picked up a vintage (maybe 1970's), handmade, ivory colored, 5' high macrame plant hanger from our local thrift store. I figure it must of come from a non-smoking/pet free home as it was in almost mint condition.
Unlike your test of the 6mm Bonnie Macramé Craft Cord, this old stuff floats even without floatant.
It may be that the person used a totally different brand of macramé cord or it may be possible that the newer product isn't made of the same fibers as the old stuff?
One thing for sure is I'm not parting with this find.
Update: The macramé that I described in my post above, looks identical to the three strand stuff that Capt Matt Thomas's CZcams video which was posted back on April 22, 2012 (How to tie a yarn indicator~Super Sensitive).
Do you have your own line of tying materials? I'm asking because of the sticker on the poly yarn
Stuff works great if ya brush it out as well, then treat it
Let's b honest the fly shops already knew this and have been cutting and packing it for resale 😂 if not the are missing a competitive advantage over buying from big vendors
I pick up cheap materials whenever I can find them.
Lifetime supply of white ep fiber there
Will the polyolefin version of the yarn work?
Polypropylene is a polyolefin
I´d suggest, to by the cord and support your fly shop by buying "real" tying materials (like hairs and feathers) from the saved money!
Most of the synthetic materials are hundred, if not thousend times overpriced, considering, what they cost in the field, they were made for.
I always feel robbed, buying this kind of stuff...
I'd suggest buying all of your stuff at the fly shop so there is an actual fly shop to keep going to
@@brooktroutangler5917 I don´t know about you economic situation, but I myself work very hard in a blue color job, can´t complain about my salary, but couldn´t even afford the equipment the owner of my shop uses if I´d get a 50% discount (nether his car or boat).
In addition can they be quiet arrogant (not to me anymore) an have very little clue: It´s normal, that I have to explain them their own products...
Half of the products, which were listed online as available, are out of stock, which costed me already hours of useless driving time and most of my special orders never arrive.
To round it up are their prices often 20-50% over their competitioners...
If I´d order all my stuff online, I´d spare a lot of money and would be way less annoyed...
You see, why, I personally wouldn´t cry a single tear, if he would go bankrupt?
But I absolutely get your point!
There is another (tiny) shop, which isn´t much better, but the owner tries is a nice guy and he tries at least...
Only his assortment is very small.
But I always visit him first and buy anything he has, which I possibly might have use for.
Still, I only have a certain amount of money, which I can afford to spend on my hobby (and when I leave, I´m usually way over my planned budget, anyway...).
So, the money the shops get from me doesn´t really change.
Only the value I get out!
But, most important, for me it is just fun, to hunt for tying materials which I can get for free!
I love, to use fur and feathers, which I hunted myself, giving the animal more value than just the meat!
Or fibers, I just pulled out of an old carpet someone has thrown away...
If you earn enough, that you don´t have to think about this, I´m am glad for you!
But most anglers are nor so lucky...
Comb them out. That is basically a "ep fibre sub".
True and I think it's not a sub, I think EP buys it some steps before the strands will be spun together
Support your local fly shop!
Micheal’s has plenty of customers and doesn’t know s$&t about fly fishing
Is that a slam on Charlie craven? 😮
No, not at all.
How was that a Craven slam?
He's the one pushing the macrame yarn trend on CZcams. He also cuts and repackages this stuff for resale in his shop. @@waynegraff3942
Flyshops first!!!
just buy materials from them instead
