@@mickeymuse2 Disney announced the 4K Ultra HD version over a year ago but it still hasn’t released. I’m not sure what the delay is. It is my understanding that when they released that version, they were going to update the Disney+ version too. Hopefully they haven’t given up & are still planning to release it. It would be easy to offer both versions with & without, like how they let you watch the Simpson’s in either the original 4:3 aspect ratio or 16:9 widescreen.

When love is gone was the best part of the movie. While rewatching it with my son I started sobbing just anticipating the song. I was horrified when it skipped over it. That was the moment that the audience understood how he became so loveless and uncaring in the present. The movie suffers from its removal.

Tim Curry has stated a similar thing, saying that Long John Silver is his favorite character from his film roles. Curry portrayed Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island.

Brian Henson said that he cut it from the film under duress as kids kept leaving the cinema, losing attention and making noise during the song. The negative was eventually found by Disney two years ago and the song was completely restored for the 30th anniversary which was played in its entirety with ‘when love is gone’ included, and played at cinemas last Christmas. I always hated the fact that the song was cut, it’s so pivotal to the story. What’s crazy though, just as Brian Henson had said, when the song came on, kids started losing attention, going to the toilets, running up and down the isles and making noise, it was remarkable to witness and now I can see why it was cut from the theatrical release. So pleased it’s back in 4k.

And it makes no sense when he sings the positive version of the song at the end of the movie. I understand they are putting it back in since the negatives were recently found. Maybe now this wonderful movie will be able to more fully tell Scrooge's story and share his journey.

I never saw the film with the song included, I never even knew it existed until I discovered the scene a few years back on YT. But even without knowing there was a song cut, I always found the transition weird. She just says "you did once" and then leaves. No explanation, no goodbye, no emotion, nothing. It made Rizzo's sudden burst into tears over something as trivial and unemotional as that seem all the more exaggerated. I always found it strange that a movie that's so well-constructed would give so little thought to the most important part of the story... the break-up of Scrooge and Belle. Turns out it DID give the scene a lot of thought. I can see some people finding this song boring, it's definitely not in the same style as the rest of the movie. But even so, it's essential in my view. So essential, that it was missed without even knowing it existed. Very good that they found it!

While kids might not care for the 'Muppetless' segment, adults would get it, in relation to other versions of the story where Scrooge and Belle break up.
Disney is not being fair to the wider audience who would be familiar with the Dickens story. As for whether or not they actually lost the negative, or just want to find a way to keep the song out of the movie is anyone's guess.
On a slightly off topic discussion, I wonder if Paul Williams is having an oddly familiar feeling from a movie he did back in 1974. Only he's on the side of the guy being screwed over. Disney is the one playing SWAN. Not too much of a surprise.
