Too bad the UCI didn't want to show her, not even passing Alvarado.

Annemarie Worst second year finishing on second place, didn’t expect given her results in the championship, but what a race! 3 falls and still fighting for first place, she deserves the rainbows next year!!

Such a great race! That 21% ramp was absolutely brutal. Huge respect for Lucinda and the form she's had all season long 💪

anyone else think the past few World champ courses have been completely underwhelming? considering how great the world cup courses are these just read like straight power courses. (yes, i realize there was a ridiculous amount of sand)
great race though! was hoping Wurst was going to pull that out, especially given the sun-par season she has had.

Firstly, cycling and cyclocross is a major sport in the Netherlands. as is often the case, champions ensure that other young girls and boys want that too. what is also a huge advantage is that Dutch children grow up on bicycles. almost all children in the Netherlands go to school by bicycle. even before they start as a sport, they can often cycle very well.
club culture also plays an important role. there are many local cycling associations with a good infrastructure such as their own track and professional trainers.
